i'm usually turned off a bit by super frilly positive message songs, but i think that it's pretty important considering the political climate of australia at the moment. i don't know how much it was covered in international news, but last year australia held a referendum to change the constitution to recognise aboriginal and torres strait islander peoples by electing a 'voice to parliament' who would basically ensure that there was a first nations perspective in parliament at all times regardless of who was voted in. it ended up being voted with a majority of 'no's, so it didn't go through and it kinda marked a clear understanding that first nations people are still being treated so poorly even in the present. i think that a song showing unambiguous joy from a first nations person is such a contrast from what's being represented in the media at the moment and what is being felt in the community. in australia we rarely get to see pure first nations joy in our media so i'm super excited to see this :)

I thought the song was aimed more at our own country than the rest of the world and I love that they did that. It is so great to see something sung in language. Just great to see something with indigenous representation.

Yes as someone living in Australia right now I felt we as a nation needed this after such a dark and sad time for First Nation Australians, we have such a long way to go for First Nations to have equal rights and not be discriminated against. I love seeing this song celebrate love, kindness and having aboriginal language and instruments in this ❤

@@erinnadia0409 an amazing Indigenous friend of ours came with us to the most recent Australia Decides and was heart broken at the lack of recognition. I messaged her at 5am as soon as it was official that this song was coming - I was so excited. It's about time. How has it taken this long to send something even partially in language?

very well put. yeah, the vibes here since the failed Voice to Parliament in october have been one of mourning. it was a majority 'no' vote but only just - 60/40%. indigenous health outcomes continue to be comparable to developing nations, in one of the richest countries in the world. it is a dire situation. I agree with a lot of Novympia's points here - but the context is less visible without the lyrics, and I do fear the dated production will hamper it. I actually wish they'd included MORE local indigenous language, instead of just the chorus. and more didgeridoo instrumentation. the hook is fantastic though, the performers are fantastic, so fingers crossed!

I was underwhelmed when I first watched the video. But when I listened without watching the lyric video it's a real bop and now it gets in my head all the time. I think the live performance will really light this up and give it the moment it deserves.

Most message songs can be performed by anyone. The lovely thing about this message song is that it can only be performed by Electric Fields. The lyrical connection to Indigenous ways of knowing make this so much more authentic. This song speaks to our place in the universe, how we cannot "own" land, and that borders are invented. It's about realizing our place in the natural world and that we are to be stewards of the land living in harmony with each other and nature. It's a timeless message but more timely now than ever, and very much so in Australia. Absolutely love it.

Australia has sent artists with indigenous heritage before but this is the first song with Aboriginal lyrics. I agree the song is a little low impact but I have faith that Australia knows how to qualify. I'm one of the few people who actually prefer this to 2000 and Whatever, although I'm still not a huge fan of message songs
@kevanmcdougallmph
@kevanmcdougallmph 4 ай бұрын
I think Australia has actually played this off well. A lyric video keeps expectations low and mystery still while showing off the lyrics to dedicated fans. The lyrics are brilliant in this song, so why not show them off! And the fandom went wild for 2000 and Whatever, so many fans were going to be comparing this song to that immediately anyways. Fans will play this song again and again without the lyric video and likely see it as a grower and may even be wowed in May once staging is seen. For general audience at Eurovision, the stage performance (which is likely to be staged very well) will be their first experience. So the lyric video choice in a weird way, can kinda work out decently.

They can sing well live and staging is always pretty great from Australia. Why are the lyrics trite? I think there really clever and meaningful. Then again I’m a huge fan of astronomy so I’m going to appreciate them more I guess, but I think we all should. Olympia has Denmark really high in her ranking ,and the lyrics in that are sickly 😂It’s a bop and I love it

I think the staging of this will be vital, particularly with pre-recorded instrumentals. Australia usually does a good job of staging, but I worry we'll end up with Michael stuck miming behind a fake keyboard while everything happens around him. I'd love to see both of them be active parts of the staging. Also, whenever I hear the line "Entertaining the gods" my brain autocompletes the next line to 'Rolling in the Deep' by Adele. But that could just be me 😅

Electric Fields' band motto is "bypass the barriers", and Fielding and Ross describe themselves as "two feminine brothers", embracing their queer identity and affectionately referring to each other as Mala (Fielding, the "younger sibling") and Tjutja (Ross, the "older brother"). They are very close friends but not romantically involved. They embrace their feminine identity, saying that it makes them stronger.[28] They are 10 years and one day apart in age.[29]

Why are we there in Eurovision because we are. What I would like to see for our artists and us, more acceptance , because we deserve it for everything we have had to put up with, throughout the years. The staging is going to be great. This song has grown on me. Like you I was a bit disappointed at first but now I like it more. I hope they go harder with the Aboriginal instrumentation and I know the Live performance will be fantastic because not only is Australia much better at live music but Electric Fields specifically are so good at live performances. The song name comes from Zacaariaha's fathers art and ftr the two are not a couple, just very close (and not in a 'history will remember them as roommates way' lol).

When I heard it for the first time I thought it was nice and it's very mellow, which I like because there's nothing like it this year. And the addition of the aboriginal language is cool. I agree that they should have done some sort of live performance for this. But we'll see, maybe they'll surprise us! Gerls tbh I needed this tone from you. I loved 2000 and Whatever and I loved seeing queer indigeneity without qualification and mediation. Their vocals have the quiet solidity of…Loreen. That trill in the 2019 song is like Cyndi Lauper refracted through Loreen. They are the first and only time I’ve actually seen contemporary indigenous Australian language mobilized by actual indigenous persons. And anyone name checking Janet Jackson in their lyrics is top tier for me.

I think the singer from Luxembourg dedicated the win of her song to her brother who's an active idf soldier in Gaza. Iceland, there was a Palestinian singer competing and people say the voting was rigged to not give him the win. Azerbaijan and Armenia have been fighting for land for decades, and more recently (2020) they had a war, Azerbaijan won an amount of land and 100k armenians were displaced.

The main thing we aren't comfortable with is that during the winner's press conference after her national final Tali dedicated her win to her brother who is serving in the IDF. This context made us view the song and its lyrics in a new way that we think could actually be in breach of the contest rules. There are other rumours and red flags around Luxembourg this year but again a lot of it is hard to verify and there's a fair amount of what could just be hysteria.

As an Australian, I like our entry this year and how we are showcasing parts of Aboriginal culture like the use of the didgeridoo and the Aboriginal language! However, I honestly think the 'music video' killed the song for many people (including me on my first listen) and it's much better to listen with my eyes closed 😅. Thankfully Eurovision is all about live performances so this won't be much of an issue at the contest :D

YAY! I'm the first here! Howdy girls from Colorado! Nova, you are wearing a dress that looks exactly like a suitcase I had when I was five. I adored that suitcase because it was gorgeous and I drug it everywhere. Am I the only one who doesn't like Poland? The video had a lot of money thrown at it, her voice is okay, but the song is so repetitive.

I really love this song, but songs I love historically have done really poorly at Eurovision I’ve found 😂 so I’m guessing your ranking is closer to the results than my ranking of 3rd place haha

I’ve reached a place where my top 10 is pretty much locked in. The entry has to be a total banger at this point, and the last round of stuff really isn’t doing it for me.

I'm loving all the enby representation. I thought it was cool seeing disabled people represented in media but seeing other enbys hits different.

Hey i was wondering why aren't they going to be covering the song from Azerbaijan?
@CrazyMattLine
@CrazyMattLine 4 ай бұрын
Because Azerbaijan have, among other things, repeatedly invaded Armenia in the last few years, imprisoned people for voting for Armenia, and have in multiple years attempted to bribe or otherwise manipulate juries to get their entry to qualify.

The eurovision channel is wild with titles. They'll post the performance after someone wins their national selection and call it "official video" while the artist is crying, breathing heavily, forgetting lyrics and thanking their mama

I vibe with the instrumental a lot. Not sure about the topline though. Like you guys, I find the lyrics kinda clunky and sometimes too positive-sounding for my taste, and the vocal melody doesn't do it for me either.
