I have spoken to several girls who dated Elvis. They each told me that his biggest worry was being forgotten. He actually thought when he was gone, people would forget him. I wish he could see all his fans still adore and love him and that new kids are learning about him and loving him every day. These reactions are teaching kids who he really was. I had heard that after Elvis finished singing this song, he actually layed down on the floor, in the fetal position and cryed!! That’s ok to keep pausing. To prevent being blocked, I’d stand on my head and play it. What a voice, what a song, what passion and I believe he’s one of the best emotive singer we’ve ever had. It is now more than 50 years since the majority of his good songs and yet there is no one who can approach the one time musical phenomenon that was Elvis. The one and only King of rock and roll. He would be 86 years old now. You can also thank composer Walter Earl Brown for the lyrics and arrangement of this song. He passed away in 2008 at 79. He was the musical genius who gave this song to Elvis and Elvis gave it to the World. Fifty three years later it still hits you with a hammer. I am 77 and it still brings me to tears. If you want to hear another powerhouse song from Elvis listen to Tomorrow Never comes from 1970. It will knock you out!

I grew up with this... and this song .. has been my all time favorite since I was 12 or 13 when I realized the significance of this song.. not just his voice but the lyrics.
