Elvis grew up in the Ghetto in Tupelo Mississippi. He was in one of about 4 white families. His friends were black. He grew up with them. He was highly influenced by black R&B. His manager got him addicted to drugs. His wife left him. His manager stole his fortune and blackmailed jim when he tried to get out. He was in a bad place and he suffered. He still sang beautifully right until the end.

It angers me to hear that even now people talk about Elvis and him being a rascist . These people that accuse him of such things are uneducated in Elvis and his life;If you are going to talk about someone in a negative way ,do your homework and if you do you will be embarrassed by your accusations .There is enough out there to prove otherwise .Elvis was a product of his environment ,he saw and loved all people as equal .He was a generous and loving soul and there are enough people out there who have stood up and spoken out on this subject .

I've never heard any racist stories about Elvis. Even for the 50s he was full on supportive of Black people because he grew up side by side with them in the projects. He grew up sneaking into gospel churches to listen and sing in choirs. Good friends with BB King, he performed If I Can Dream in his 1968 Comeback Special jaut after MLK got shot an he wanted to make some kind of statement in words but wasn't allowed to so he sang it instead. Unforgettable and unmatched 46 years later. He wouldn't stay anywhere his backing singers weren't welcomed. This man was the embodiment of the sweet, gentle manners the deep south was known for. You could see the love for all his band during gigs and rehearsals, he was a naturally funny humble man. was one in a billion talent. I'm happy younger people are discovering his energy and genius. Better than MJ hands down, you cant even compare them. I'm 48 and just got pregnant watching his hips move like that. In fact half that stadium got pregnant during this song ❤❤

Elvis was friends with a lot of black entertainers (James Brown, Sammy Davis Jr, Fats Domino) and boxer Muhummed Ali, and all his black staff at Graceland spoke highly of him), as did the Sweet Inspirations women (incl Cissy Houston). Elvis was a fair man and a generous man.

Patrick, I'm so happy that you are enjoying Elvis' music. Your misconception about his racial views might be due to the fact that the older white generation did not like Elvis, because his music was rooted in black R&B. Elvis acknowledged and respected black artists. But he did not see color; just people. As you learn about his music, you might also pick up some stories of how Elvis treated all people with respect. Anyway, I'm thrilled when younger people discover and enjoy his talent. Thank you for this journey!

Judy darling, where did you learn that the older white generation didn't like Elvis.? Myself and my sisters are in our 70s and we've ALWAYS ADORED ELVIS. He was a teenage, twenty something, thirty and almost an idol. Not idolatry, Bible forbids that. Every record released was bought, every film was seen. Even my mum and her sisters loved him to bits. Some negative stuff sometimes happened and everybody forgave him. We knew he was poor from Tupelo. And we loved him more. He loved his mother.....we loved him more. He had a very soft spot for poor coloured people and sang about them. And we still managed to love him more. He was our Gospel Church choir rolled into one. We played his music forever it seemed on Juke boxes znd danced with people we didn't know. It was a wonderful era for many of us and now we are aging and grey, we STILL love him like yesterday. Remarkable really. He wouldn't have stood for this racist and woke nonsense. Far too human and caring.

Elvis had it all - his voice, his range, his moves, his looks, his interactions - yet so kind and humble - they broke the mold when they made him! 🕺🏽 Elvis grew up in poverty, his father was in prison so he and his mother lived in a shack - dirt poor - they depended on others for food. He grew up playing with all different races but mainly in the black community - he loved to go to the local church and sing gospel with the choir. Elvis himself was part Native American - he didn't see colour, he saw people. A true Gentleman who never forgot his roots. A rare, unique & truly special talent. You should check out to 'If I Can Dream' his MLK tribute performance He'll always be The King👑 R.I.P.

Black entertainers who knew Elvis all spoke highly of him.

One time at the International in Vegas...a couple guys got on stage...his mafia handled them...but one slipped by...Elvis didn't see him...at the last second he caught Elvis' eye. Elvis tossed a bunch of karate at him and threw him off the stage...with some move. It was wild! Elvis was pumped...the audience was pumped...Elvis did some serious swearing (which u know I hate ;) )....then Elvis said, "This will never again happen at one of my shows. You wan a shake my hand that's fine but you come up here like that. I'll kick your GD butt (only the othe 3 letter word starts with A...). I think it's on KZbin you should find it. He was incredible He tried to integrate all styles and types of people. Refusing to play if his back up singers weren’t “allowed” to preform. He would play other songs to represent the community that was being ignored. Little Richard said Elvis would sing his song because he was obsessed with how amazing it was and fun and wanted the world to hear it, and little Richard said it blew up so much faster and he was thankful for it. Elvis tried to represent and be there for and promote the music that inspired him not steal it.

Loved his energy, vocals, and interactions with his background singers, band, and audience. Hard to tell who got the biggest workout: the orchestra drummer, the band drummer, or Elvis. The way he messes around with one of his background singers to changing a lyric for the audience, from tears to sweat, his connections with everything around him is part of what makes him great.

From that same series of shows in Vegas from 1970 is "Polk Salad Annie", "Just Pretend" and "Can't Stop Loving You" which I think you will really appreciate. And just on that hate stuff you mentioned from something that the man supposedly said way, way back...it never happened. NEVER HAPPENED. It was part of a deliberate plan by the anti-rock and roll lobby in the '50's to try and discredit the guy that pretty much invented the genre. The accusation was debunked way back then almost as soon as it was created. It isn't even worth 5 seconds of our time thinking about it, man. As always, love your work.
