I think its a double meaning too but one of the meanings I got was no matter how successful you become the world will still see you as black

Yes, Malcom X goes into the psychology that white people tell you your history because we choose not to learn it. But when we learn your own history and own businesses and land, you can’t be told what you are and what position you are in society since you own it plus know who you are (real history).

I think the main message of the song is that no matter if u rich or poor u will still be seen in a negative way by most ppl. Thats why we gotta stop buying luxury items that only have to purpose to built some kind of image (because no matter the image u will still be seem in a negativ way). So we might as well use that money to built wealth for us and our kids and their kids. So basically we should stop caring what other ppl think of us and stop payimg for an image to please them, cause they will never be pleased. Instead we should use that money ro built wealth for the family, so we can live a good life while everyone else is still invested bulding an image.

11:37 I know I’m a year late on this lol, forgive me. But that line…he’s explaining that these rappers get advances from record labels, flashing it thinking that they rich. He doesn’t call that money because those rappers have to pay that advance back through royalties and those rappers won’t get a single penny until it is paid off. Sooo if a rapper blows a million dollars….

Great analysis, this song has inspired me to build my wealth even more. I have always thought that and after hearing the song it really speaks to me. Since the song came out we have bought 4 properties and the value has more than doubled in just a few years. We were able to get them before the housing market went crazy. We get calls and texts from realtors trying to sell our properties. We also bought some land. The land was over 20 years ago and it was bought for $1000 an acre. About 10 years ago we just sold select cuts of trees. We got $45k for the wood and only had 30k in the land and you could not even tell that there was anything cut down.

Thanks for the breakdown. The real eye opener for me is when he's saying "still n****", he's talking about how men see THEMSELVES, and that is the trap. The Story of OJ now makes sense - no matter how rich, successful, and "white" he seemed, in the end, he lived down to the basest expectations and mentality - abuse and murder, live rich and die poor. This song says fuck what the white man says and change your way of thinking to be successful. The other line is about the V12s ... THANK you for explaining that.

No matter the skin colour, how rich and poor, old and young, skinny and fat you are a human being. You should treat other people how you want to be treated. Also he did explain why Jews are rich, it’s because when they earn money they spend on themselves and their community they do not support others. As how regular bozos would get paid and give it right back. By buying Nike Jordan’s, alcohol technically anything considers entertainment. He also said what’s more important than money, credit. I don’t think that needs explaining but there is similar saying in my country. You may break my bones but never my name. Also there was this scene where it looked like a machine was creating KKK clan members and one of them took their hood off and it was Jay Z, that was very deep. Cuz it made me think that it’s not who we are it’s how we made as if a black person can hate a black person, also it has “walk a mile in my shoes” type of message. Imagine if the original Africans were white and European were black. I think we would exact same history just with colour switched. Overall the message I received was that you should be who you are no matter the label you are given. Cuz there is only one label you should care about, it’s the one you gave yourself, love yourself, your family and just do good for good karma.

You paused at inopportune times more than once, and it seems that was interfering with you seeing how some of the ideas flowed into each other. I've noticed that breakdown videos tend to go better when the reviewer watches/listens to the media first, and then consumes it again to REALLY pay attention. Btw, the "taking advances" line was about artists taking advances from major labels (fast money up front), while Jay and his folks are independent, and taking chances like starting streaming services, artist and sports representation firms, and liquor brands. That $50 or $100K sounds great when you're a broke artist trying to break into the business, but it's nothing compared to what your publishing for ONE amazing song can end up being worth over the life of that song--anyone ever heard of "Imagine" by John Lennon? "Thriller" by Michael Jackson? How about "1999" by Prince? Samples, covers, or just even playing the original song in a movie or commercial? Even after you're gone, those checks can either be cashed by your descendants, or by the record label you took a n advance from, in exchange for ownership of your masters. That's what *I* took from that lyric.

I find it ironic how they would try to cancel Kanye, who supports Trump, for saying something about Jewish people, but Jay-Z who's Leftist and woke didn't so much as get so much as a second glance for saying what he said about Jews.
