Tim didn't speed up the song (Nemo) because it needed to fit the 3 minutes. That was actually a joke they made on the show. He speeded it up to make it more his style (I actually like his version better). In the show they do that a lot.. they make the songs their own version. They don't do it always but it's kinda part of the concept of the show

Her solo version is more small and intimate, this one has more punch. Nice to see 2 versions of the same song, both amazing in different way. When she stand up is like "now I eat you", Tim must be intimidated.

MOST of them are. Sometimes there are people from Belgium, where they also speak a certain kind of dutch (Flemish). But they are wellknown artists in the Netherlands. Sometimes dutch singers also appear in the Belgian version of the show, Liefde voor Muziek

Hello from the Netherlands Shara and Tom . in the Netherlands 90/95% of the artists sing in English. Floor and Tim are both used to singing in English . but PLEASE watch Floor Jansen with your wife with Qué Se Siente here she sings in spanish while she don't speak spanish ! she taught herself in 24 hours how to sing that song in a different version than the original ( Rolf Sanchez . the man on the couch ) and in spanish !! . I also hope to see the reaction of you together on Floor with Euphoria (for the TV show for the European song festival) and Floor Jansen and Henk Poort with Dangerous Game (musical song) With kind regards Hollandduck from the Netherlands

Mother languages of all of the singers in the show really is Dutch, although Rolf Sanchez was brought up bilingual. Dutch and Spanish. Floor actually did sing in 8 languages: Dutch, English, Finnish, German, Italian, Latin, Spanish, and Swedish. You really need to check out all performances by Floor in the show series :), and a few more duets ....

Beste Zangers is a seasonal show with a number of episodes. Each episode of the season is dedicated to one of the performers. They take their turn on the middle couch and the other artists take turns singing one of their songs, or a song that was important to them in their lives. They do a wrap up episode where they get to do duets etc adn this is where this one was from.

The show: 6 singers and 7 episodes in a season. Each episode one singer takes the 'hot-seat' and the other 5 singers sing a song that is of importance to the singer in the hot-seat. It can be anything like something from their childhood, their first hit, or something that inspired him/her. The last show they do duets. It is not a contest, they sing just to honour the singer in the hot-seat. (even though the person in the hot-seat is asked to pick a favourite performance)

In the solo version, Floor kept it really down and emotional. This version, she stills holds back, to adapt to Tim's voice and power, and still I believe they get more emotion in it, compared to the original. But it is always difficult, while we all know her capabilities, when she is goes into power mode - or emotion mode. As a duet, this was brilliant - Tim's voice really suites this song.

The showcases each singer. So each singer has 1 episode focusing on them and the other singers do either a song of that singers or 1 that has a special meaning to that singer. If you like Tim you should really check out Floor singing Winner, a song Tim wrote about his disabled brother. Everyone gets emotional. Also when you do react to it, find the longer video where they are discussing it before Floor gets up to song. You should also react to Floor sing in Rolph's episode a song that he wrote, she sings it in Spanish, abso-freakin-lutely amazing

Hi Sarah & Tom, Floor was sitting and she was the same height as Tim! Then she starts to get up, here we go! Floor also did this solo, a bit softer, I think she was protecting Tims ears :-) Isn't it a great idea for the programme, fellow artists all sitting on the sofas, watching each other sing? Their reactions are wonderful too, appreciating the skills involved.

Tom, about de BesteZangers. It's a Dutch television show and all the participants are Dutch (except for one season, 2017, where there also was one German singer, but he speaks and sings in Dutch). The show started over 10 years ago and has different singers every season.

In answer to Sarah's question.... yes, it is in a higher key than the original. Also in answer to your question about Tim.... He's a young but long established singer guitarist who spent many years in the Dutch rock band D-rect before going solo about 10 years ago so he definitely has the head of an old school Rocker, and Tom, you'll be glad to hear that his musical hero is none other than Bruce Springsteen :)

Keep also in mind English is not American and v.v. My personal experience is that Americans have more trouble with foreigners speaking English, than Englishmen hearing foreigners speaking English. At school as a foreigner we learn to speak (and write) "proper" English (as they do in England) and not the American way. That's probably the reason a lot of Americans sometimes find it hard to understand when fforeigners (try to) speak English. Also a lot of words used in English are different from American ones or are spoken differently. And ...... as Europeans we always try our best to speak other languages, while Americans ......... 😉 (well, you know what I mean).

Im Dutch and never noticed the Bruce Springsteen like quality of Tim Akkerman but now that you mention it .. yeah! (Bruce Springsteen is my all time favorite, him and the E street band.. been listening to them since I was 14 or so.. 23 years ago)

These are all Dutch singers from different genres. There were 8 episodes in the season, one for each of the 7 performers, and the final episode for Duets. Tim was the only singer that was familiar with Floor’s talent, having known her in their previous bands on the summer festival circuit.

One of my favourites (and I'm 100 % sure you'll be blown away) is from a much older season of Beste Zangers (about 5 years ago): 'Barcelona' by Tania Cross and Tommy Christiaan (From Freddy Mercury and Montserrat Caballé). I really hope you'll give it a shot!

All of the participants are Dutch. The majority of European bands sing in English. A series consists of an episode for each singer plus a final week with duets. Floor has sung in English since she started with After Forever at 16 years old.

Best duet from this show is Henk & Emma "Vivo por Lei". Best solo is a tossup, Floor doing Tim's "Winner" or Emma doing Floor's "Strong" or Floor doing "Shallow" solo. The whole show is jaw dropping good. This was my favourite duet for a long time too. Henk & Floor "Phantom of the Opera" is also the best version of it next to Tarja and Marko (Nightwish).

Dutch people are multilanguale, we learn English, German and French at school (and higher schools Latin, Greek, SPanish or Russian) All these people are fully Dutch, but we procounce English pretty well. Floor and Tim know eachother for a long time, standnig on the same stages when she played in After Forever.

Floor is my favorite female singer on earth and I really enjoy Tim but there is a version in my dreams where another singer brings Floor to that maximum level that all her fans know is possible. This duet doesn't quite get there for me but it's still amazing and I would absolutely loved to have seen this performance.

The next ones have to be: "Que se siente" and "Winner", especially "Winner" is very emotional, but you have to know why - Floor sings it to Tim Akkerman but the subtext is about his brother.

Much prefer the Floor solo version. Tim Akkerman has a great voice showcased in that first verse, but in the solo version, Floor re-interprets the song beautifully with a restrained and emotional performance. This reminds me of Marko's remark that when Floor joined Nightwish, he was really glad that he no longer had to hold back during duets, so powerful is her voice. Similar thing here, but she is the one holding back so that she can match the harmony vocals with Tim. That makes it a bit more routine than it could have been.

This was probably 10th time hearing this. And now I noticed it. At the end it sounds like Floor still has 10db on reserve but Tim can't or it was not even planned to keep up. No offense to Tim he is great also.

I'm Dutch, and I clearly remember our English high school teacher drilling the pronunciation of the words more than learning every word there is to know in the English vocabulary. Also not American English but UK English. I now speak American English tho

It's a lot easier to learn english because of the subtitels in Dutch and the original , most of the time, english and American movies and shows. We grow up with the language and the english education starts round the age of 10 and sometimes even sooner. So we are at least familiar with it.
