Don't let the familiar riffs and sounds bother your thinking and their origins in classic music of the 70s and 80s. GHOST wants you to enjoy the nostalgia and embrace the new music as the music of your life. Thumbs up 👍

I'm from London. Spitalfield (pronounced Spit-a-field) market is near Whitechapel, the area where Jack the Ripper committed his crimes. Tobias mentioned the song was in reference to the murders, but it's a little cryptic. Great video btw :) Also the "goodbye Seven Sisters" line is in relation to another area called Seven Sisters in London.

No the song has been confirmed as a ode to the ripper and the fall of and empire......

Yeah, like always. Tobias imbues it with a satanic aura and ends up making it into a story about how god is a fraud and how the disgraced and fallen seraphim are gonna rise up from hell to claim their rightful dominion that their father bequeathed to his inferior 2nd born race. It’s why we love Ghost and why even metal heads will tolerate them if they release music that’s more pop than the king of pop himself. Very special band.

@@macgruberyahfrigginturds7044 Tobias said it was about Jack the Ripper and the Seven Sisters in London. Not about the fall of an empire. There's a video here where he talks about it. I just dont remember which video it is. Should be "an ode to the ripper and the fall of an empire."

It’s similiar to the strings like interlude from Whitesnake’s „Still of the night” right before the guitar solo.

The album is about the rise and fall of empires. This song is the aftermath of the fall of an empire and it loops back around to the start of the album to show how this is cyclical.

Tobias is a song crafting master. So many layers of instrumentation and vocals while maintaining unity. After a month of listening to Impera, I think this may be the most impressive album from Ghost and Respite has become my favorite song of theirs. So amazingly good.

Tobias Forge said that this is about Jack the Ripper and the fear he left behind,as he was never caught. Women were afraid all over London after he quit killing. They were terrified that he might strike again. The perspective is from two people who were murdered.

The song it's about Jack the ripper, I was watching the documentary about Jack the ripper and spitalfields was a market near by I believe the killing was near by
@TheAssassin22992 жыл бұрын
Correct. The Spitalfields was the area in East London in which Jack the Ripper hunted sinners, mainly prostitutes. The line about "we're here in the after" should tell the listener exactly what they should be feeling: unease. The "after" of Jack the Ripper is the exact "after" that was seen with the Zodiac Killer: No answers, no identification, just an infinitely lasting mystery and a stain that prevails over time and history itself. Rampant murders, then... just... nothing. Silence... Calm. That feeling that each citizen at the time likely had was not one of relief-- it was still horror. When would he strike again? Would he?
@aydenburris86312 жыл бұрын
Explains why the riff from "Still of the Night" is in there. The song has a duel meaning. It compares an emperor to a serial killer, ruining his own empire with his aspirations. The lines "I'll be the shadow, you be the light" mean an empires remnants being built into the next album, reason why the album begins and ends with the same riff. The line "we will go softly into the night" quotes the poem "Don't Go Softly Into that Good Night," the poem basically says that in the face of the end, one should fight against a certain end with all their strength. By the time empires collapse it usually becomes willingly to it's own people. The lines "He appeared to ascend So we all stood there in awe Now we have to pretend We didn't see what we saw When the curtain unveiled To the sound of applause That the king that we hailed Was the Wizard of Oz" Tell of a promising ruler coming to power just to reveal himself as a lesser cruel person and abuse their power, Adolf Hitler, and Napoleon Bonaparte are great examples. Their people wanted them to rise to power, but once they got power they showed their true colors. It quotes the Wizard of Oz due to the wizard being a false idol.

@@aydenburris8631 Yo I just noticed something really weird that relates. Did you ever check the timestamps on the official audio for each song? The second verse ("The moon in the gutter Has a story to tell One day he will come back From the bowels of hell") starts at exactly 3:19. The first time that riff happens (first verse), the exact moment in Still of the Night? Also exactly 3:19 into the track. Those cheeky bastards. Edit: they also snagged the slide from the very beginning of the song for Call Me Little Sunshine. lol
@aydenburris86312 жыл бұрын
@@TheAssassin2299 there's definitely a ton of layering to their music. Most of their songs on Meliora, Prequelle and Impera of multiple meanings, many of the lines are even puns to make duel meanings. My favorite of theirs is in Pro Memoria when he says "if you had the chance today you would've sold out too, ain't that right swede saint Peter?" Obviously mocking saint Peter, but the lyrics are actually mocking Simon Söderberg, who is swedish. Although it sounds like he says "sweet" he actually says "swede." Simon Söderberg is a past member of Ghost. Saint Peters birth name was Simon.

The little interlude after the guitar solo always reminds me of "Welcome Home" by Coheed and Cambria. Could be what you're hearing. It was a common trope at one point, but music doesn't really follow that 80's muting style anymore. It's sad.
