I really appreciated your discussion of Mabel's actions here - she did cross a line, but she's coming from what she thinks is a good place. I think a lot of us have been in that position where we want to give someone we care about just a little nudge in the "right" direction, and Mabel is only 12. And for Mabel, who is already very forward with her own crushes, it makes sense she would think Dipper's just moving too slow. In some ways she's right, but that decision should have come from Dipper. I truly believe one of the hardest things to learn as you grow up is to let your loved ones make their own choices - even when they seem like the wrong ones.

The beauty of what Gravity Falls did is it didn't disrespect the audience by dumbing it down to just a cartoon, it hit that sweet spot that so few shows have hit where there is a message for the audience to take away, but it doesn't force itself, instead it weaves into the narrative and makes the characters completely relatable and real. I wish I had discovered it when it was on as opposed to 2 years ago where I binged the show over the course of 2 and a half days where I may or may not have called in sick to work to watch it... This episode always makes me smile because I remember having a massive crush on my neighbour as a guy of Dipper's age and she would have been Wendy's age, but she found out and she is to this day my closest friend I have, because she told me what Wendy said. And now she is godmother to my daughter and I'm godfather to her son. Because I know if we'd have wound up together romantically it wouldn't have worked knowing what I'm like in that situation, and I probably wouldn't be here to comment on this since she literally saved my life a little over 7 years back.

Wendy's "Umm... Dipper?" After he poured his heart out to the wrong Wendy, hit just right. The hesitation to both the danger they were in, and the awkwardness of Dipper admitting his feelings; it was all just perfect

When Season 2 of Gravity Falls came out I was eleven years old. I didn't have much access to social media back then but my younger sister and I were obsessed with this show. Every week we would go through rerun after rerun of each episode waiting for the next episode to come out on Disney XD (As scheduling tended to be a bit finicky and there were delays between new episodes that could last from a week to a month). Every time a new episode came out we would get so excited we would practically jump off the couch and then shout to the other sibling to come in because a new episode of Gravity Falls that we had been waiting so long for had come out. It was one of the best experiences of my life. In many ways, I regret not being around the online community at that stage and part of me wishes I could have been on Reddit and Tumblr theorising with fans. At the same time, part of me doesn't regret that as a lot of theories were going around at that time that tended to spoil a lot of the show and I got to watch all of the show with naive eyes.

A thing about this I really appreciate is that attention to details and remembering key moments. Like how Dipper asked Wendy to give him a sign is a callback to the season one, fifth episode (the Inconveniencing). That mouth zip gesture at the end was then just a cute little bonding moment. But here it was how to figure out the who was the monster. I also dislike how people say "this is just a kids show" with shows like this. Newer cartoons as so many adult moments, jokes and references that would go over kids heads. They also behave a lot more adult than older cartoons from the 80s/90s!

G.F finds new ways to be wonderfully disturbing! This episode gave me horrible flashbacks to that 80s horror film with Kurt Russel, The Thing. Later I found out on the audio commentary, that movie was the inspiration for the episode!

Wendy and Dipper easily have one of my favorite relationships in the show, if not all of fiction. They’re a fantastic example of “I can’t date you, but I love you so much,” and it’s so wholesome. Even though I was a diehard Wendipper shipper when the show was coming out, I’m really glad it turned out this way.

Yeah, that was a total milkshake moment for Dipper. (Whenever I realized a crush of mine didn't reciprocate back in the day, I'd get a milkshake from either Friendly's or the diner.) But it has to happen. I think everyone growing up needs to have that experience of "this person who I'm having romantic feelings towards only thinks of me as a friend, and that's okay".

This episode is a perfect example of how Gravity Falls gets better as it goes on. While the show is good from the first episode, early episodes can't compare to episodes like this one, because the reason this episode is so great is that by this point in the series you're really invested in the mystery of the journals, and you're really invested in Dipper and Wendy. If there hadn't been all of the earlier episodes setting up the mystery, setting up Dipper's crush on Wendy, and getting to know the characters, then this episode wouldn't have had nearly the impact that it does.

I got into Gravity Falls right before season 2 premiered, and I could really feel the community's hype leading into it. The mystery is amped up to 11 and was great to follow.

Never did the deep dives for the codes and such. I enjoyed being a lurker, the community was so enthusiastic that it was amazing to watch. When the scavenger hunt kicked off I spent a ton of time poring over clues and interacting with people and it was great! This really was such a great community of folks.

What I like is that Dipper and Mabel are like real kids. Real 12 year-olds don't do everything right (and lack too much experience to get some things right), just like real people, real adults, don't either. And I love them like real people - I love them but that doesn't mean they're perfect, which is fantastic. All to often it feels like shows, or books, or whatnot, have to have the main character be perfect and never mess up, or they aren't worth it, they aren't worth protecting or believing in or viewing as awesome. And this show isn't that way. And I really appreciate that. Even though there may be fans who do take it that way and hate one or another character for their flaws or mistakes, I think that's on them for once, not on how the show presented it.

I followed any KZbinr who decoded the coded and dove in to hidden secrets and all the speculations and leaks. a few things you may not get to experience 1 there was an intentionally created false leak made to through us off track . "Who is the Author" had us thinking of a number of possibilities with one really sticking out. The False leaks however threw some of us off. Brilliant that the creators made a post containing an animation test from an unaired episode then had the post deleted then made a statement reporting leaked information. Just to toss us off our game. 2. The series included content out side of the show . shorts and a segment done with puppets. it also had back ground cameos on other shows and even today still does cameos. 3. More secrets surfaced when the Journal got printed as a real book we could actually buy and the real book included the black light and invisible ink. 4. any time people got interviewed at comic con it was time again to dive in to hidden clues and to over Analize every thing 5. The series continued after it ended. The creators created one last surprise you can only experience online it ion its self is verry fascinating but you won't see it if you on ly react to the episodes. and after this one big final thing , there are other stories that happen outside of the series.

The online discussion community for this show was off the chain back in the day. All the codes were cracked day of, a bunch of extra secrets hidden in the episodes were combed over. The theory mill was so active and thorough that some theories about where things were going where so close that Alex Hirsch created fake leak images to try and through people off. It was wild at the time. But it just goes to show that Gravity Falls was so good a sprinkling clues for the observant and fun enough that so many people where willing to try and figure it out

I absolutely loved that they didn't make her like him as well. Despite the clear maturity/age difference in the characters, as well as the designs of the characters that make it clear they are in different stages of life (which would have honestly been creepy if they did make them get together in my opinion), it's important to show that crushes not liking you back is a part of life. And a lot of kids saw this, so it was important to show that a crush not liking you back isn't the end of the world, that your life will go on

I was definitely part of the hype leading to season 2. Watching Vailskibum94 videos, theorizing, etc. The season 2 premiere was so hype. The only thing that compares is the series finale (obviously, more hype). Although most people would agree that the best episode is somewhere in between (i won't spoil it lol). Season 2 has so many hype moments. Get excited.

I have a slightly freaky story to go with this episode. The night before I saw this episode, I had a bizarre dream: basically a combination of the animated series Archer, where they were being attacked by the creature from The Thing. I even posted about my whacky dream when I woke up. Later that day, I watched episodes 1 of season 2, enjoyed it and was about to head off to bed when the temptation was too strong so watched another episode ... this one. Where not only is there The Thing homage, but they even drop the "boosh" line which I first heard in Archer's predecessor Frisky Dingo Also great voice spot with Mark Hamill! If only he was in my dream to, I'd have had the perfect trifecta!

I've always had this thought that after season 2, rewatching season1, while still amazing feels different ever since season 2 as seasin 2 is just so much better thst season 1. But at the same time, Season 2 is great because of Season 1 setting everything up and I love that. Season 1 has some misses for me like Dipper vs Manliness and so does Season 2 later down the line but overall I love this show so much. Season 1 loaded the gun while Season 2 fired it.

It's literally a 3 year difference. It's not that she's "too old for him". There are plenty of people with larger age differences, and nobody bats an eye. The problem is that he's still considered a kid, and she's considered a teen. But he's about to become a teen as well (if he wasn't already).
