That moment when Hyunju was struggling to explain that she wanted to go to Thailand so she can 'be pretty' like the girls there and Youngmi simply said "you're pretty too". I teared up along with Hyunju 😭

I think the main point that somehow doesn't get mentioned (enough) in any comments so far is that before this game, they had to vote and Hyun-Ju voted to continue, basically stepping over Young-Mi for her own goals. Only after she already cast her vote, she realized how scared Young-Mi really is when she yelled at people to just let her go home. After the voting ended, she still forgave Hyun-Ju for voting O, while also calling her beautiful and unnie, basically showing that she sees and accepts her identity, contrary to all who ostracized her prior in her life. She basically sent a signal of unconditional love, which to Hyun-Ju made her own selfish decision even worse. And she condemned her friend to a game she never wanted to join in the first place. And when she died during that very game, that's what broke Hyun-Ju, because now her death is directly on Hyun-Ju's conscience. I think it was not just the sadness and anger of losing a true friend, but feeling responsible for her death. Besides Gi-hun, whom we follow since season one, I have to say that Hyun-Ju has become my second favorite Squid Game character and I am excited to see how her journey ends. Either she manages to help Gi-hun somehow stop the games after all, or she makes a self-sacrifice to save someone else and redeem herself in her own eyes.

Hyunju is no doubt the best character in squid game.
