It's great to see someone reacting to Paul DiAnno era Iron Maiden since almost every other reactor concentrates on stuff from the 3rd album or later when Bruce Dickinson took over as vocalist. I do prefer Dickinson but there are some real gems on the first two albums. I'd forgotten just how good Paul's vocals are on Remember Tomorrow.

When people typically ask Iron Maiden fans, "So, who do you like better, Di'Anno or Dickinson?" Though most prefer Dickinson, it's tracks like "Remember Tomorrow" from D'ianno that makes so many say "I like 'em both."

Paul Di'Anno (vocals) wrote the lyrics for both these songs... 'Remember tomorrow' was written about Di'Anno's grandfather, who passed away at the time... he wrote it in his memory. 'Running free' was the album's first single, and Iron Maiden performed it on UK TV program 'Top of the Pops' in 1980... They said they performed it live rather than lip-sync it like most bands (including Queen) did it... I think Paul Di'Anno was a skinhead as a teen youth... he gave up on that hateful ideology and wrote about that experience. Ironically, he did end up in jail... but not in L.A. 😂 Iron Maiden's manager Rod Smallwood said that even though Paul Di'Anno played a 'tough guy' role... he was very "sweet" fella. Paul Di'Anno was great for Iron Maiden in the early days (1977 to 1981) because he had a punk rock voice & image... and that made them a lot of fans in the UK and Europe. But the band would play only weekends in the clubs and bars. After they got signed... Iron Maiden was playing shows day after day, week after week... and Paul Di'Anno couldn't handle the stress and pressure on tour for near 2 years. He resorted to alcohol and drugs to cope, and by the fall of 1981, he was burned out and parted ways w/ Iron Maiden mutually... Thankfully, they hired Bruce Dickinson (vocals) and Iron Maiden grew even more popular, but they lost that punk rock edge of their early records. Iron Maiden also released a cover song 'Women in uniform' (by the Skyhooks) as a single in 1980, which was not on the first album w/ the song 'Invasion' ... 'Burning ambition' was another song that was on the 'Running free' single, also not on the album... Another cover song "I've got the fire" (by Montrose) was on the 'Sanctuary' single.

Running Free was a catchy tune, with some pretty cool riffs. This was Iron Maiden's first single. It was written by the band's bass player Steve Harris and Paul Di'Anno, In an interview with Di'Anno, he explained that the musical idea was based on the beat from the Gary Glitter song "Rock And Roll Part 2." Said Di'Anno: "It was the same drum beat, we just sped it up a little bit." This song is about living a life of hell and unrest, and enjoying the freedom that comes with it. Lead singer Paul Di'Anno says it was based on true tales of his youth. He told us: "I've always been a rebel. I don't know why, I just don't like conforming to the norm if I can help it. I don't respect authority, which is a bit unfortunate, as it's a bad thing for me sometimes!" Source: Songfacts

Killer early Maiden, We bought that album for the cover as soon as we spotted it, wow, the music is a perfect match with their mascot, Eddy, a metal Ikon. Even then you knew they would be something and sure enough, after 2 damn good albums with Paul Dianno on vocals, they switched to Bruce Dickinson and the rest is history. Rock On and enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

Sarah, Sanctuary was on the debut album North American release but was the third song on side 2. You'll find that many Iron Maiden songs have prominent bass thanks to founder, primary song writer and bassist Steve Harris. I too would strongly recommend doing Killers album for 6 Maiden albums to react to.

It wasn't the wrong version of "Running Free". Maybe a remastered version but still the original recording from the album. I'm glad you included "Sanctuary" in the last video. When they released the first remasters in the 1990s they included one track on each of the first three albums that was originally only released on a single. The others are "Twilight Zone" ("Killers" album) and "Total Eclipse" ("The Number Of The Beast" album). Since they are great songs that in my opinion SHOULD have been on the original albums I hope you'll include them in your reactions (assuming and hoping that you WILL do "Killers").

Remember Tomorrow for me was alright, not a favorite. It kinda mixed a ballad with a punk sound. It was written by bassist Steve Harris and lead singer Paul DiAnno. According to Paul Di'Anno, the title and concept of this song came from his grandfather. Di'Anno told us: "I lost him in 1980, when I was on tour. He was a diabetic. They cut off his toe and his heel, then he lost his leg from the knee down, and he just sort of gave up. 'Remember Tomorrow,' that is what he always used to say - that was his little catch phrase. 'You never know what is going to happen, remember tomorrow, it might be a better day.'"

Hi Sarah. Loved the way Harley walked in front of you as Running Free's chorus kicked in - very apropos.🤣🤣🤣 I think both these songs hit the spot more than last week. I've never been blown away by Prowler but both of these show Maiden's quality ..... and it only gets better from here! As for doing Killers ..... I concur that you might as well. It is relatively short like most early 80s albums so why not? I would also like to start the campaign early for you to expand the run to include their 7th album Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son as it is my personal favourite Maiden album. It is really the template closest to what Maiden became post Bruce returning in 99 and continued to this day with their most recent album. It is high concept and very Prog in places. I reckon you'll love it, Sarah and as it is their last 80s album it would be rude to leave it unloved!!🙄😜😁🤘🤘
