Jinjer: The tone of the first part of the song was very jazzy. played well. @@DaddyGoose_CB I think, there was some small post production editing, as you can hear sometimes a second voice layer, but in general: Yes, that's her, the switching back and forth and all. There is a one-take -vocal studio performance of Judgement & Punishment, no fake there ;)

@@DaddyGoose_CB For this video, it was recorded live in a studio as a band (versus individually like you would for an album.) There are some effects on her voice, but they are the same effects you'd put on any singer like reverb, compression, and maybe a little doubling. There may have been a few tweaks in post, but nothing major because they were going for a live feel that was not the complete production level that you'd do for an album; but also was not crappy cellphone concert footage. That said, NOTHING they did in the recording or in post made her voice sound that way. That was all Tatiana, and she really can go back and forth like that. With that... I will agree with @sanger1680 with his suggestion of Judgement & Punishment one-take vocal. If you loved the jazzy fusion of this track , you're gonna really love the surprise in this song! Awesome to see Jinjer on the channel! Yeah, that's her voice. There's a bit of post production in the mix, but not anything drastic, it's more so that the track sounds professional and not like a straight raw vocal recording, y'know? It's an accurate representation of their live sound. This "Pisces" song is honestly not one of my favorites, it's more of a shock value sort of deal, so I understand what you mean about how the change up felt a bit oddly structured. I think the vocalist has even said that she doesn't like that this song took off and became so popular, because it's not one of her favorites either lol. I enjoy the song but it gets skipped in the playlist. I'm sure you'll get a million suggestions for Jinjer, but I'd suggest checking out the "official live" music video for their song "Pit of Consciousness" performed live in Kyiv! They perform great live, it's usually on par or better than the studio versions. Here for the Fit for a King reaction too 👍

Jinjer is like no other band on the planet. They are insanely talented at every position, and basically have their own genre. They seamlessly infuse so many elements of different genres like jazz, blues, reggae, R&B, and even hip hop into their music, including different genres of metal, including progressive, djent, metal core, groove and nu metal. They don't have a single bad song in their catalog. Some reactors spend months doing nothing but Jinjer, because they have about 50 songs, and every one of them is worth a reaction. Jinjer is how what opened my mind to harsh vocals. I’m 50 now and have only been into this since mid ‘19. Since then I’m just taking it all in. I want to experience every new (to me) artist and band that’s pushed my way. The comment sections of reaction channels are where I am exposed to most of what I listen to these days. I saw what I could make out of your lists, and checked your channel, and I’m going to leave some of my go to’s. I loved the Vibe song btw. I didn’t think I’d be into metal with electrics (whatever it’s called) in it, but here I am. That song made me think you’d dig: Igorrr - Opus Brain live at Pol’and’Rock. Someone will say I should have shared another song, and they’d be right. They’re so different. This is my favorite. Entheos - Perpetual Miscalculations practice. Then, (it’s so hard to pick songs) Avatar - Smells Like a Freakshow live at Wacken if possible Mantra of Morta - Freeman Slaughter To Prevail - Demolisher or Baba Yaga Lamb of God - Laid to Rest or Redneck live at Download Motionless In White - Thoughts and Prayers Gojira - Flying Whales live I’ll stop there. They’re some of my favs.

Jinjer is from Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, where the fighting started in 2014. The guys were stuck in Kiev when the current fighting started, but were eventually allowed to leave early last summer, to go on tour and be ambassadors for Ukraine. Her name is Tatiana, and she is mostly self taught. This live session was actually done to showcase Vlad on drums, who had joined not long before this. But it took off because of her vocals. Vlad, Roman(guitar), and Eugene (bass) are all awesome musicians. Vlad is classically trained on piano. They write the music, Tati writes the lyrics. Most of their songs have a mix of clean and harsh.

The band is Jinjer singing the song Pisces. Think of all the female metal singers who can wail like demons. A guitarist uses foot pedals to alter their sound much like singers can go from sweet to pure evil. This is her screaming like a true artist. Great band doing a one take live which shows her singing chops. Meaning the screaming is wicked, but she truly can sing. Check out "On the Top" to see the difference between screaming and singing.

So prior to the 1970s every band started their recordings with a "live session" where everyone played in the room together as a "base" for the rest of the recording. Live sessions are still done today but not as often. It can create some real magic with bands who play well together but it does present technical challenges in post. Jinjer is excellent live. She does these harsh vocals and switches live on stage. She's been doing this for about 15 years at this point. Instead of a very long list of suggestions I usually just post a link to my KZbin playlist of live Jinjer songs. They are excellent live. Any of the videos on that list would be good for a reaction. None of them are the poor quality "video camera in the audience" recordings. They are all good quality. kzbin.info/aero/PLhlYsqoR9XLEpHTbaOovrpa1p8L2uZ81G A good example of all clean vocals would be "Bad Water" (live version is on the playlist), "Beggars Dance" and "Prologue". A good example of mostly harsh vocals would be "Who is Gonna be the One", "Captain Clock", "Plus or Minus" but like I said the list of good songs is quite long.

So, as far as I can tell, “live session” here means this is them recording the track, then the track went through production. Almost all Jinjer's songs are a mix of clean and guttural vocals. One of my favourites, I Speak Astronomy, has a greater ratio of cleans to growls. It also has some whacky time signature shifts and an epic finale.

Time signature shifts can be epic though! Thanks for the Support!

As for Jinjer, My favorite song is Teacher, Teacher. They are influenced by many genres, from rap, to jazz, to reggae. Judgement & Punishment gives you a taste of that as well. I haven't heard their whole library, but I don't think they have a song that is all clean vocals or all growling. A lot of them do flow better because Tatiana bounces back and forth more often. I've never heard one that doesn't have drastic tempo and vocal transitions, which is one of the reasons I love the band. It's always fun, and they always sound good. The song I Speak Astronomy has the most clean singing of any others I've heard, and is also a banger.

Bad Water is all clean vocals, and Wallflower is mostly clean, with some growls toward the end. Also, Prologue and Beggars Dance are also all clean vocals. I Want It I'll Get It is all growling, but it's in Russian. Still a great song though.

FACT - you will never have enough Jinjer on your channel or in your life. Keep going my friend. There is another band I'd be very interested to see you react to. Eluveite and their song Rebirth (official video). They are folk metal from Switzerland but not your drunken sailor dwarfs type of metal (which I do enjoy). Interested to see what you think of the mix of instruments and I challenge you to name them all.

I can see that the Jinjer reaction army is out in full force ;) Definitely do what NiamorH says, Perennial at Wacken is the best example of the switches live. 2 very surprising bands with switches: - Maximum the Hormone (Japanese band): Songs - "Yoshu Fukushu" or "A-L-I-E-N" - Electric Callboy (German band): Songs - "Hypa Hypa" or "We've got the Moves" You won't be disappointed

The jazz comment actually makes perfect sense. The drummer, Vlad, clearrly has a jazz influence. He has his kit set up in a jazz style and plays in a very jazz style. Lots of ghost notes, not heavy on the crash. The song starts with a 7/8 time signature and switches to 6/8 for the bridge, then turns into what I can only describe as 20/8 for the chorus. Don't apologize for the comparison to jazz, be proud to have recognized it. Edit: I think the only "effect" on Tati's voice is that she's multitracked in places, but there are no effects making her growl sound like that; that's all her.

Jinjer started in 2010, though with none of the four in this video, but obviously, this video went massively viral and catapulted them to fame. Between the four of them, I genuinely believe they are the tightest, cleanest, most talented band of the century so far. All four of them are wizards or f*cking mutants or something (actually, both Tatiana [vocals] and Eugene [bass] were both born in Ukraine within 12 months of the Chernobyl disaster, so who knows?)

Tatiana has the voice of an angel, but can growl like a demon!! And for the Gojira mention, pretty much just think of the japanese saying Godzilla, that is how I pronounce it. (example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rofWemduoLJ1as0) And for a song suggestions, L'Enfant Sauvage, Explosia, Born in Winter, or Born for One Thing (a more recent song)

Pisces is about the the opposite of ones self! So that’s the reason for going from one extreme to the other in the vocals and music of the song! You have to listen to the lyrics closely in the song and you will understand the reason it’s written that way!

With Jinjer, the song feeling differs for a very specific reason. The song is Pisces - Tatiana is a Pisces. DUALITY: Feminine - Pisces is known as a feminine sign as it is more receptive than assertive in its energy. This is also known as Yin energy (Yang is Masculine). SYMBOL: The Fish - The symbol of Pisces is two fish swimming in opposite direction which is symbolic of their watery duality that shifts like ocean currents. The song changes back and forth for this reason.

It is jazz. It's also metalcore. You'll also find reggae. Then there's prog. It's Jinjer and there are only a few artists that are hard to classify like them.
