The first mobile phones were cell phones, but I remember when the digital ones came out around the year 2000 people are encouraged not to call them cell phones because they work with some kind of different technology. But the name cell phone has stuck, even though technically they don't work the same way. It's kind of like calling them walkie talkies, it's not exactly right but the name cell phone will probably always stick.

Something that's not mentioned often is that the rest of the English-speaking World, a commonwealth of about a billion and a half people, base there spellings on British English. American English is unique in that we altered it, well Webster did, to change it to be uniquely American and no other country has done that. So we will always have differences in the spellings of some words even though we are a vast minority of the English-speaking world. We really should go back to the Standard English spelling for things, there is no risk of America being conquered by the British so Webster and those people that were really panicking and trying to carve out a distinct American society.... Just isn't relevant anymore. For communications sake I think you'd be better for us all to use the same spelling and words as much as possible. They're always will be Regional International differences, but especially for people immigrating it would be helpful if there was one English spelling for most things at least.

indeed, the brits don't know how to spell color lmao One thing Webster changed that didn't stick is observation, apparently he wanted to change it to "obzervation" :-)

These two are obnoxious. French is wrong but calling it by a dead language makes sense, I think not. Sorry but I don't know what a zero floor is, the first floor is the first floor built. I find their method confusing. The 13th floor thing has gone away. Every building I ever worked in in NYC had a 13th floor. Because the first cars had trunks on the back of car for carrying things. Boots go on your feet. Don't get me started on Bonnet, it reminds me of a babies hat. I used to watch these two but they became so annoying I cancelled my subscription, so patronizing ( and yes I spelled it with a z). Using the brand name Hoover is OK but Scotch is no good , so duplicitous. Semi is sexual but calling an eraser a rubber is fine?
