@@didymalgia it was Sony, and I believe it was more René, Celine's husband, calling the shots against Lara. Hi. I 200% agree with you. I recognize Celine Dion is a great singer, but I'm not especially fond of her singing, neither the songs she sang. To me, Lara is the greatest of the greatest! Not only she has a perfect vocal technique, but she also moves her audience with the way she delivers her performances (you almost think she only sings for you). She conveys this emotion in 4 languages what none of her rivals can do. She is also a great song writer. Finally, she is also a committed woman: La difference, Llora, un Ave Maria,...

You have done two now. you are a perma member, welcome to Lara's world, bow to the Queen, long may she reign. This may be the best live performance I have ever seen. She changes pace, dynamics, tone, timbre, the stage presence, the enunciation (Her French is ridiculous), switches registers with insane ease, the drama, 17 seconds on that final note with a melisma or two to make it stupid hard....insane... and on and on and on. Other than that she is not very good.

Great review! According to Lara herself, it was not Celine, but Celine's partner and management, that white-anted her in the USA. To be dropped like a hot potato was extremely upsetting for Lara at the time. But anyway she did want to be poured into the major studios' "mould" as a "pop artist" . Her subsequent career is an object lesson in survival and going on to be great. She retained her artistic independence from major studios, writing her own songs and choosing her own ballad-style.. Her vocal excellence and expressivity on stage as well as her personal drive, destined her to be an international star. When great young singers like Dimash and Diana Ankudinova revealed that she is one of their idols internauts all around the world began to appreciate her and now, many new fans have arrived. BTW you have only scratched the surface of Lara's immense body of fantasttic artistry!

“Je suis Malade” was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, but a few months after, Dalida covered it and brought it to fame. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet. They became good friends. Lara has made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power (eg the Acapella section) and Serge Lama adopted these in his later interpretations. This 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries. The most recent one I am aware of is from the Korean band Forestella.

hello Sir, I am 64 years old, and I had the chance to be in the room in 2001 with Lara Fabian, I subscribed to your channel, because your descriptions are identical to my feelings, in addition to the emotion, accuracy, and the difficulty of singing this one, because you have to block your emotions and transmit them to your voice, which she does brilliantly, I think she is the only singer in the universe to transmit all this to us, the pleasure for me after listening: is to discover your emotions and your true feelings which are identical to mine, you are sensitive, thank you for your originality, don't change anything, I'm watching you from Paris .

I've really liked a few of Dion's songs, and there is undoubtedly vocal prowess there to respect. But...yeah, until I discovered Fabian, the only other singer who stopped me in my tracks was Sarah Vaughan. Fabian remains the only soprano to hit my neural net like liquid velvet. And she's such a vocal chameleon with an enormous toolbox of skills to choose from for _exactly_ the emotional effect she wants. Dion= box of 8 Crayola crayons. Fabian= 120 Deluxe box. She actually writes most of her own material (in French, English, Italian and Spanish.) I'd rec her original Broken Vow next. I'll be back with a link. Great reaction. Happy Birthday! Waoow , First of all happy birthday (mine was 2 days ago 🤣) I think I’m getting addicted to your reacts! I love the respect you show to the artists and songs by exploring the history of the song and the artists background. And I see you definitely resonate with Lara artistry. Some comments : - Lara has dozens of songs she wrote, she is an absolute incredible songwriter. Igor Krutoy said she is the both the best songwriter and singer he has been working with and Lara’s father said she is a « songwriter that appears to sing as well » - She is also a unique storyteller: You identified this ability she has to switch from speaking to singing register within the same sentence and breath, she also has the ability to write that line between singing and crying and she totally immerse herself into the song. In this case, I advise you to check her attitude after the song, it takes her more than one minute to come back to reality ( check other version of this perf if the video here stops too early) - her first release of Je suis malade was from 1994 but here this concert was recorded in 1999 and released in 2000 - the dispute was with Sony , not universal. As the taste of the audience evolved away from the ballad type, they wanted to transform her into a pop dance singer ( her huge success with I will love again in this direction comforted them as well) - we don’t know if Celine herself was instrumental in the fact that Sony and venues finally rejected Lara from the US but her staff definitely was (and apparently her husband and producer Rene Angelil the first of them, as he was very influential within Sony) There is a documentary made about these events: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqqlZ6mOecmNeLs I will post some additional comments later today: one to give even more details in this song, one to give you some recommendations for the next reactions and another to post again my summary of her background, career and the big influence she has on the new generation of vocalists

LETS GO ! Let's laugh a little!!!! It's such a sad song and I've listened to this version so many times, and this performance has been commented so much!!! This song made me cry because it speaks to me, like to many people... .To detach myself from this sadness, I found a trick!!!!! In French, when we speak, we don't pronounce the "e" of "Je Suis Malade", we just say "Je Suis Malad'". Of course, singing is very different. We articulate in an exaggerated way. In the original version, Serge Lama pronounces the "e", but a real "e" .......Lara Fabian opens her mouth so much, that she says ""Je Suis Maladé".The "e" in French is pronounced like "a" w"o"rld " , or "a" w"o"rd ......Now for English speakers , imagine that she does not sing , I am sick , but I'm seyck, a bit like in "t"e"ll" or "s"e"xy "!!!!! It gets funnier when all you think about is that.....Try; personally, that m helped a lot to get out of this magnificent, and so dramatic performance of Lara!!! ALLONS !

There is nothing so important to be said after her singing ends, as to cut the video off prior to its actual ending. This particular video if played to the end, shows the the emotional commitment she gives her performance and the audience. You can watch her evolve out of the emotional trance (almost) that takes a moment or two for her to find that release from, so to speak. As the audience shows it approval and applause, its as if Lara is unaware until she finds her release. Suggestion...... Never...Never...(lol) end a Lara Fabian reaction until the actual video has ended. having said all of that, I enjoy your reactions and watching your appreciation for Lara Fabian grow, truly a great great vocalist and performer.

I just discovered your reaction. Well done.💞 The moment she starts singing a capella, know that she is singing her anthem (in only the way the French can!)--this is what makes the transition so moving and wonderful. Each reiteration of "Je suis malade" leads to this, and the "chantera" just prior becomes drawn out and flat, sung not unlike an orchestral tuning note. A true masterpiece. Jésus a pleuré.

Hi Didy, let me first wish you a happy birthday. Thank you for your reaction to Lara's masterpiece version of "Je suis malade". I was impressed by the research you did into the song and honoured the 2 previous artists who wrote and sang it. I haven't seen any other reactors bother to do that. Lara is a supreme artist who draws you into the web she weaves as her story unfolds. It was a pity about the version of the video you watched as you missed the end of the performance where, she emerges from her character and is oblivious to her audience and is visibly shaking from the emotion. It took her a while to regain her composure and return to her reality. This is what makes a true artist, and what they are prepared to give in a performance. I have subscribed and look forward to following you on your journey into the wonderland that is Lara Fabian.

Serge Lama, was french, he wrote the song in few hours in a bar, about feelings he had at the time. Alice Dona wrote the music. Serge was not a " comic " singer . He was a " pop" singers , singing nice songs. The song was so "dark" , it was out of his "chart". 😕 Dalida did a very nice version , she had her on issues...😞 But Lara performed this song as strong and perfect as it has to be🤗 About Celine , I am not sure it was coming from Celine directly, but, as I know, and I know a little, there was a lot of money in stake and it looks there was big pressures that Celine should not get competition in the USA. Songs written by Lara : Adagio, you are not from here, Caruso, Karma, je me souviens, I think I am forgetting some more🤔 You stopped the video to early, look at it until the end... What you see on her face is ....unique🤗

The ones that she wrote herself : 1/ "Adagio "- from the concert Laura with love - In English - master class. Adaptation from the Albinoni eponym piece. 2/ "Broken Vow" - same concert - in english - very touching And the ones that are absolutely also to be seen are : 3/ "Je t'aime" from the same live concert. 4/ Caruso - same concert - in Italian - maybe one of the best version of this song

Great performance by another artist you introduced me to. Did I ask if Aurora and Angelina know each other? How old are they? Wonder how'd they sound singing together? Again, Happy Birthday!

The vocals and music are all fantastic ; what moved me though was the first person story telling and the emotion. She brought me into the story and let me feel what she was expressing. She is one of only 3 people I have been introduced to that can move me emotionally. The other two are Angelina J. and Diana A. . By the way, a folk song, “ Ornery Horses” otherwise called “ Finicky Horses “ or Capricious Horses “ when listened to with the English subtitles is also sung and alternately told in story fashion. A dark song, the rendition by Diana A. is powerfully moving.

It has never been proven, but Celine's manager could have pulled certain strings at Sony to force her to accept what material Sony will put out without mher approval.

Celine Dion lives in Canada too, but that's a petty, lousy thing to do. Then again, I think Lara is happy. It all works out.

The scam about Lara Fabian, it's not Celine Dion herself who made the gesture, it's her husband and manager René Angelil and Tony Motola of Sony Music who didn't want to see Lara Fabian because she was harming Celine Dion. But Lara Fabian had a great career in Europe and Asia. She had the chance to work with the wonderful pianist Igor Krutoy with whom she still collaborates. She even composed the lyrics to Dimash's YOUR LOVE with Igor. Two wonderful incredible performances with Igor Krutoy, VOCALISE kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2iypHqLj6-Uirs and MADEMOISELLE HYDE whose lyrics she composed on the music of Igor Krutoy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqa2dZegipmGbq8 These two performances are MASTERPIECES. Thank you from Montreal.

It's more than a sad love song, it's about a toxic relationship, exactly what I lived and lot of people live too. It starts like a dream, but the narcissistic perverse takes you everything more and more, making you feel crazy and being nothing... You often want to die because it's very long to rebuilt yourself after that. This is a pathology not really recognized but very violent, the victim looses herself... Now, there are associations to help victims but very hard to prove in justice because the traces are not physical but hardly psychological.

vous avez entièrement raison , céline dion n'est rien comparé à Lara Fabian, elle vit , elle transmet , elle ressens et partage ses émotions elle est humble , naturelle ... , céline dion gueule , elle crie , elle s'auto-satisfait

Hello Lara’s rendition is the best and will never be equaled. But I would like to introduce you to a 4 male crossover harmony group callrd “ Forestella” from South Korea. When they performed their first song ( the Freddy Mercury classic“ Bohemian Rhapsody”) it catapulted them to international stardom and they now have millions of followers worldwide. They were all at one time solo performers. One has a very deep bass/baritone voice. Another, a high operatic voice, and the other two group members (who were also solo performers at one time) combine to render “je suis malade” a confluence of absolute total passion and performed live on stage in front of thousands of fans. I thought no one would ever come close to Lara’s soulful rendition. And no one vocalist will. But when you have 4 members and the best vocal harmony group in the world, well. ( all I can say is have your Kleenex handy) Some of their other songs I recommend are Simon & Garfunkel classic “The Sound Of Silence”, Guardian “ Angel” that will lift your spirits and transport you to another world-especially during these troubled covid times. And the hauntingly beautiful “ hijo de la luna” But “ Le Suis” remains my all time favorite. I’ve watched it 5 times and each and every time it moves me to my depths. All love from Miami Beach , Florida, Al
