I have few things to say about this video. Some people can think the gestures are exaggerated. You have to put in context. This is a live concert in a stadium with 90 000 peoples, in a rainy day. You have to do this, so anyone can get the message. About the song, it is based on a french movie from 1939. " Le jour se leve" , in english it is called " daybreak or " day raise". With famous french actor: Jean Gabin. It is a story of a guy who killed because of love and now, at sun rise, the police is going to storm his apartment and kill him. In flashback , we see how the all story happened 👍.

Ok I will try to give the full context: • Johnny : the most admired singer in France from early 60s to 2017 when he died. He is the Elvis of France, sold more than 110M records WW. A real power house, here the mics were balanced to favor Lara as he wanted her to shine. When he died, there were national funerals, with hundred of bikers on the Champs-Elysees, 1 million people along the path of the funeral procession. And this song was played when the coffin penetrated in the church. • The song: this is an anthem song for him, that he used to sing alone. This was turned into a duet for Lara. The story of the song was created in reference to a very famous old french classic movie: Le Jour se Leve (1939) where the main character is barricaded and surrounded by the police, having killed his girlfriend. Here it becomes more a « Bonnie and Clyde » scene where both are defying the police. • The venue/event: Johnny’s concerts in Stade de France ( biggest stadium in Paris and France) in front of min 80,000. Lara was the surprise special guest. They were supposed to perform it 3 times in a row on September 1998 (4th, 5th and 6th). The first night on the 4th, it was deluge of rain, , the scene was outdoor, it was risky and they decided at the last minute, with the crowd in the stadium, to postpone it to Sep 11th . Johnny was devastated. The second night and the third night the weather was fine enough. The orchestra and choir setup was amazing, the choir especially which was distributed on huge stairs climbing to the sky. But the night of 11th, the rain was here again. Johnny absolutely refused to cancel this time. This is this Sep 11th show that you just watched and the rain just added some dramatic effect to the whole performance. The orchestra was located under a tent. The choir was grouped on the floor and on some balconies (not on stairs anymore obviously) • Lara: she was at the beginning of her career in France and this performance became legendary and accelerated her fame there. She was unknown in France when, in February 1998, she performed this song in duet with Johnny for Les Enfoires, the most attended France TV Show of each year. Johnny was so surprised and amazed by Lara performance that he decided to do this song again as a duet with her for the 3 big concerts a few months later. In between February and September, the album Pure from Lara had become an absolute mega hit in France, and Lara was already a star. But this live performance where she performs as a surprise guest definitely extended her fame and she got new fans across the entire country.

Johnny Hallyday was a living legend. It's hard to put into words what Johnny meant to France and the French speaking parts of Europe and Canada and to millions of fans of him around the world including myself. You can look up the statistics about him which are very impressive, but that wont give you an accurate picture, so let me give you a few snapshots so to speak to illustrate what I'm talking about. First and foremost he was mentored by Edith Piaf when he was 16 years old. That mentorship ended when Piaf tried to seduce the young boy, still Johnny adored her until his dying day and performed many of her songs over the decades. Talking about decades, Johnny's career started in 1960 and he performed until a few months prior to his death at age 74 on December 5th 2017. When I say performed I mean in front of tens of thousands of people even in his seventies. How famous was Johnny? Jimmy Hendrix was the opening act for some of his concerts, he sang with many artists from Bono, to Celine Dion, to Lenny Kravitz, James Brown and the list goes on. His concerts were legendary, so is his voice and his whole personality. Johnny was the one who brought Rock & Roll to France. His biggest concert was in front of 1 million people, yup, you are reading it correctly, 1 million fans who packed the Champs-Elyse up to the base of the Eiffel tower in 2000. All his life he sold out stadiums. People in France always said that Johnny was just as iconic as the Eiffel tower and the French baguette. When he died the francophone world and his fans around the world went into mourning. His funeral was broadcasted live in Europe and Canada. 3 French presidents attended to his funeral service in the Madelaine Church in Paris including the current president Emmanuel Macron who gave a 11 minutes long eulogy on the steps of the church. On the day of his funeral the center of Paris was shut down and about a million people lined up the empty lanes of the Champs-Elyse to watch Johnny's funeral cortege roll by. He truly got a state funeral. Just as a side note, I was one of the lucky people who attended this concert. I knew some of Johnny's songs before, but I never saw him live. Do you know what's the funny part? I went to this concert because I knew that Lara was a guest artist! Of course, after this concert I've become Johnny's life long fan. He's been gone 4 and a half years now, but the pain of his passing just as fresh as it was when my friend called me to tell me that Johnny was gone. I think I'll mourn his passing 'til the day I die.

I just posted some details on this legendary performance but let me add a few things that your comments attracted me to highlight: - this link will give you the same perf with some english subtitles, enabling you to understand the very dramatic lyrics: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIOUo56qlJWVn6M - Musical: there is another legendary perf from Lara where she acts in Broadway mode. This is her cover of Barbra’s Yentl emblematic songs « Papa can you hear me » and « Piece of sky » where she runs the stage and acts as if she was in a movie kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIibnZSifbKqrs0 - Discovering some other aspects of her voice : this songs I guess I loved you exposes her beautiful head voice and voice agility like never before kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6isXnt_m7isp7c - Johnny and Lara: they connected well ( artistically speaking 😀) and wanted to perform other duets but Johnny’s young wife became jealous and made sure it did not happen

👉This show was performed in front of 80,000 peoples. Requiem means: Funeral, Funeral Mass, Funeral Service. So it's a religious piece of music, an obituary, performed during a funeral. The song is about a man who has killed his lover wants to commit suicide by provoking a police officer to kill him. When Johnny Halliday, *1943, singer, songwriter and actor. He died in 2017, all of France mourned. His funeral was televised live to tens of millions of people across Europe and Canada. 3 French Presidents were present at his funeral, including Emmanuel Macron, who delivered a 12-minute farewell address to thousands of people on the steps of the church. Johnny received a full state funeral. Paris stood still, they closed the Champs-Elyse for his funeral procession and about a million people lined up to bid him farewell. He had a 57-year career from 1960-2017, sold over 100 million albums, recorded over 1000 songs and wrote a hundred of those songs and co-wrote another 100. Not only was he a great musician, but he was also a very humble man out of the limelight. Johnny Halliday is a legend in France like Elvis in America.

That was brilliant, brilliant, Didy ! I would also love to hear Charles Aznavour sing "Il comme dissent." It's spectacular. I prefer the French. but English is great, too. Recorded I think, in 1972, Aznavour's recording company begged him to put a disclaimer on it. He said, "No! We are all artists!" Then, I'd like to hear more Lara, Mais oui! Thank you. You sould know more Didy about Johnny. There are reactors though with even less knowledge about him. One of them yesterday reacting to this video asked "who is this guy". This guy had a 57y career (1960-2017), 90.000 people came to see him on that rainy night (nights?) in Paris, 3 French presidents attended his funeral and an album dedicated to him after he passed away made a world record of 800.000 sales within the first 3 days. Reactors should be more educated. As for my love Lara let me not speak, I will not be objective. We all know she is by far the eternal Queen of Emotion and Live Performance

When I hear a Lara Fabian performance for the first time, it tends to become my favorite performance-- right up until I hear another from her for the first time, and the newest takes its place. It's a pleasant sort of confusion :-) --Thanks for the reaction. I thought I had not heard Lara sing until after lockdowns happened, but I saw the Spielberg movie, "AI," in about 2002 and since she sang the movie's song " For Always " --I heard the lady sing long before I knew it. John Williams did the AI score, and I believe Lara also appeared in concert with Williams sometime in 2002 while he led the Boston Pops Orchestra. I'm sure it's on KZbin

Great reaction again Diddy. Johnny Hallyday (R.I.P.) was a highly acclaimed French rock singer and actor, often referred to as the French Elvis 🙂 Listen to his "Souvenirs Souvenirs" and you'll quickly understand the Elvis reference 🙂 He lost his hearing on his left ear after the sequence at 8:14 (kidding) and he died from cancer a few years ago. He was one of the artists I used to listen to when learning French. I also listened to Edit Piaf a lot. Take care 😉

PS - I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you play these performances without stopping them. It drives me insane when other reactors do that; and the worst ones are those who stop it without respect for the flow of the songs. I understand that KZbinrs feel they must stop it for ads or copyright reasons - but to simply CUT HER OFF in the middle of a phrase - or, worse yet, MID-NOTE? It’s sacrilege. So, thank you SO much for sharing your honest reactions without pandering to the “Sorry, I have to pause it here to say something inane” mindset. 💖

Har elsket henne siden hun ga ut "I will love again"👍 Vanskelig å ha en favoritt sang, men denne er oppi toppen sammen med "Perdere L'amore", "Caruso", "Jeg suis malade", "Adagio", "I will love again", "Jeg t'aime"... You haven’t seen her do Caruso yet! It’s from the same live concert, From Lara with Love - and it will blow you away. Edit - I agree w/others here - her performance of the Yentl song is not to be missed. She also did The Prayer w/Michael Bolton, accompanied by David Foster, who is its primary composer. Many people cite the Celine Dion/Andrea Bocelli live version as the pinnacle of its performance… but Fabian and Bolton arguablimprove on it. It’s hard for me to choose, because (unlike you 😜) I love Celine Dion’s voice - when she’s not doing her vocal gymnastics routine. (Dion does that stuff because it’s a crowd pleaser- but she’s playing to the lowest common denominator, if you will, when she does it. I far prefer Lara and her artistry; she can still sell a song better than anyone, but it never feels forced or histrionic, despite what some people say. Celine… well, I really resent her role in keeping Lara from becoming a breakout star in America - though, to be fair, I think most of that was the machinations of Celine’s management at Sony…) But seriously - you HAVE to see her Caruso. I’ve no doubt you’ll eventually see everything she’s done, because how can anyone resist, once they’ve been exposed to this divine artist?
