Also if you melt magnesium and start its reaction with air, then drop it in water it makes a puff and a shower of greenish colored sparks, like a mini firework. I've done that many times, but one thing to take note, the molten magnesium when it reacts with air, is intensely bright and emits UV rays, so it can damage your eyes easily, so if your going to try to do it be careful. Also I recommend using a torch to melt it, and when it starts smoking and starts to get bright you don't need to heat it anymore, it will become hot enough to react more of itself.

the water turned purple because he used phenolphthalein which is a acid-base indicator, the reason it turns purple is because the magnesium reacts with water to make the magnesium hydroxide, this dissociates in water to make OH- ions which turns the solution basic and the phenolphthalein pink.

Not if you do not explain the origin of the purple colouration which I see from another remark is due to the addition of phenolphthalein indicator . The Mg + 2H2O = Mg(OH)2 +H2; no coloured species until you add an indicator. Also, why does he infer that there is no H2 in the bubbles ? Where does it go ?

So then there are no significant signs in icy planets because there is no such thing as room temperature in a ice planet like Uranus or Neptune, meaning that it would remain the magnesium there until decomposition and it would take a while.

It's not just magnesium; it's alloyed with iron. Pure magnesium wouldn't react quickly enough to be used as a heat source. Edit: and there is no shortage of military MREs. They are literally placed outside the mess for soldiers to take as needed.
