Ohhh thanks for this awesome reaction to this one so quickly. However I think you forgot the song I bribed you into reacting to with that wonderful red rope licorice..... Bless the Child😂 I totally agree that this one hurts a bit because Marko is so wonderful in this one, but I am happy that at least it was recorded. So I enjoy what's there and I am very much looking forward to what is coming. Every now and then Kai posts snippets. As for the lyrics, this song reminds me of One by Metallica. It talks about the horrors of war and how soldiers suffer (killing is quick but you carry it with you forever) while it's not their fight. 🖤🤘🏼

Lyrics Today I killed, he was just a boy Eight before him, I knew them all In the fields a dying oath I'd kill them all to save my own Cut me free, bleed with me, oh no One by one, we will fall, down down Pull the plug, end the pain, run an' fight for life Hold on tight, this ain't my fight Deliver me from this war It's not for me it's because of you Devil seems; my eternity Obey to kill to save yourself Cut me free, bleed with me, oh no One by one, we will fall, down down Pull the plug, end the pain, run an' fight for life Hold on tight, this ain't my fight "I envy the 9 lives that gave me hell My path made up by their torn bodies Man to man, soldier to soldier, dust to dust Call me a coward but I can't take it anymore" They wait for me far back home The live with eyes turned away They were the first ones to see They are the last ones to bleed "The ultimate high as all beautiful dies A ruler's tool, a priest's excuse, a tyrant's delight I alone, the great white hunter I'll march till the dawn brings me rest 10th patriot at the gallows' pole!" Cut me free, bleed with me, oh no One by one, we will fall, down down Pull the plug, end the pain, run an' fight for life Hold on tight, this ain't my fight Cut me free, bleed with me, oh no One by one, we will fall, down down Pull the plug, end the pain, run an' fight for life Hold on tight, this ain't my fight

Agree about Emppu, he gets a little overlooked because he's just hits the mark like clockwork. So absolutely reliable that you just assume he's gonna be on point without even thinking about it.

What's fun about Emppu is that he'll be playing a solo with a face on that says it's the most difficult thing he's ever played and that he's about to screw it up. Then he looks up at the crowd and smirks, while still playing that intricate solo like it's nothing. BTW, when you talk about Marko and Floor, well you probably haven't seen enough examples, but Floor has this incredible ability to adjust to her vocal partner regardless of who he or she is. Match her with Dolly Parton or Beyoncé and you would think she had been singing with them for years.

Tuomas sets the Story, Floor drives the Tone, Marco interlopes in to the Tones, Emmpu ties it together dots the I's and crosses the tees, kia and Marco con trol the Speed (a High Talent band in the Groove) Makes the Music. As always Floor Commands the Crowd without the Crowd Knowing. The Rest I Totally Concur.

This is the closest thing Nightwish has to a full on anti-war protest song, as it examines the horrors of war from a soldier’s perspective. This song has a clear narrator, an unnamed soldier suffering with guilt and shame at the actions he’s taken in war. The song begins with a simple statement that immediately begins to lay the groundwork for what the title of the song means. (Today I killed, he was just a boy, eight before him, I knew them all.) Meaning this is the 9th man the soldier has killed. The chorus of the song is just devastating, delivering a rapid fire desperate plea, with the soldier planning to desert even though they know they will be killed for it. (Run and fight for life, hold on tight, this ain’t my fight.) The second verse talks about how killing another person is something that happens in an instant but sticks with you forever. (Devil’s instant, my eternity) Marko’s part then begins, which seems to represent the darkest thoughts of the soldier. He talks about envying the nine soldiers and their blood now lines his path, and that he can’t take it anymore, even being labeled a coward means nothing. Later, Marko as the soldier states that they will march away from their duty until the dawn brings them peace, and they welcome capital punishment for desertion with open arms, becoming the tenth man down. (Tenth patriot at the gallows pole). Or something like that ,.... I really Like your reactions analyses (I make notes every time)! NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘

I don't really spend too much if any time on most track's lyrics since we all take something different from them and create our unique connections to the song overall. Some songs you can't help it, other songs can be "too personal". I get yelled at in the comments if I try to "tell people what to think", so I'm cautious about expounding on "meaning". Cheers, Eric

@TheWyldesidewithEricClark I can fully understand that. As I said I can't wait to hear YOUR take on this one. Not I can't wait to hear you repeat my take on it back to me. The most wonderful thing about bands like Nightwish with talented writers like Tuomas, is they seem to be able to speak to everyone through music and people might not hear the same thing as someone else. But everyone gets something from a song by a talented writer.

Lovely reaction as always , Eric. I've enjoyed every single one you've done so far, so keep them coming, please. 10th man down is one of the many brilliant songs Nightwish have that reactors always omit for some reason. I'd like to request a couple (I have many more in mind 😁) reactions to 2 other songs that are never reacted to and that I absolutely love and I'm absolutely convinced you're going to love too. The songs are Beauty OF the beast and Fantasmic but both have to be the studio versions as there aren't good quality live ones on KZbin and also the studio versions will allow to hear the whole song as a lot is happening in both of them .

Great song from an older album and the best NW live concert (IMO). The Bloodstock version was good too but nothing beats BA Emppu was really in his element in some of the older numbers like this, Stargazers, Gethsemane End of All Hope etc. You should look at the opening to this concert, as a Troy fan - he transcribes a great old Tarja song, Swanheart, for solo pipes and then runs straight into one of the great Nightwish show- openers, End of All Hope. Personally I think Emppu is a GOAT, but unsung. You always talk about his tone - note the EV-1 he plays has NO tone controls!

Murderers Row, that's a very nice description 😅. And you know what? That's exactly describing their talent. It is really lonely at the very top. Their success is due to their extreme talents music wise in all it's aspects. But evenly based upon their companionship and pure joy in what they are doing. When the band exploded mentally, the audience explodes as well. Many bands are concentrating on making complex music and they forget to "perform" . They concentrate on their thing. But Nightwish is able to hide the concentration after a mask of pure joy. Maybe that is next level. That you are able to outperform anyone and let it look easy. Gods they are.
