Henk Poort was Lloyd Webber's favorite phantom when he performed here in Europe. In the interview beforehand, Henk said that if you started growling in the opera, it was NEXT. Was certainly not allowed. Hence the bit of growling that Henk did, with a nod to the past. He said "good music is good music, period." :)

Henk learnt the voice distortion just for this performance! Note how surprised Floor was! 😂 Now he performs it regularly with Floor at shows. Great reaction This was the last episode of a 9 episode TV show. Before the first episode Henk had never heard about Floor and knew nothing about Metal but as the was going on he discovered her, her style, her talent, he discovered Metal and, as he said, no matter the genre "Good music is good music". Now, they've become friends, Henk has been performing as guest with Floor on several occasions for her solo show and he accepted to perform that song on that show only to one condition : He required that, when Nightwish will perform in the Netherlands, he'll join them on stage to perform the song alongside with Floor... One thing I love in this performance is that, they're both having so much fun, they're both trying to impress each other, they're both trying to push each other to the limits : Henks is doing growls, which, as he said, is the very opposite of what people want to hear from an opera singer and Floor is pushing her operatic skills to the limit in these last notes.

Ok, so this is a Dutch show called “Beste Zangers”, which means Best singers or Dear singers. So far the show had 14 seasons, the 15th is about to start in 2 days. Every season shows 7 artists from completely different backgrounds; singers who were big in the 80’s, very young singers who are doing covers on KZbin, and everything in between. They all have different genres: Pop, rock, jazz, classical, hip hop, you name it. Every artist gets one episode where the other artist from their season sing one of this artist’s songs, one of this artists favourite songs, or something from their genre. That creates all sorts of wonderful performances. In the last episode, several singers team up for duets, such as this one. Henk is the original Dutch “Phantom of the opera” from the 90’s, and as you can see, he’s amazing. Andrew Lloyd Webber reportedly called him his favourite phantom ever. If you want to check out something else by him from this show, try “Sound of silence” that he performed for Floor. Or you can watch other duets he did with Floor of the songs “Dangerous game” or “Sweet curse”. Henk Poort has done Phantom a few hundred times in its original musical format. Out of respect for Floor and to add to the Metal genre Henk went way out of his comfort zone and bright in a bit of fry to his voice. Amazing performance this from both of them 💥💥💥💥💥

That live performance was the Ghost Love Score of the 1980s. Fight me! Edit: The arrangement of the music, by the way, was written and arranged by Tuomas Holopainen -- who gave his go-ahead to use it, when Floor told him about this duet with Henk. It is the same arrangement that Nightwish used in 2005, during the "End of an Era" concert.

Beste zangers is a dutch program,same as the voice also invented by the dutch( john de mol) all over the world transformed as its such a great format.....you should know that as you have the vouce usa( with uncle blake)...de beste zangers is also copied all over europe but not usa as far as i know

More than just a "heavy metal vibe" here. They are using the arrangement of the song, as arranged by Nightwish. Nightwish covered this song on their 2002 album "Century Child", so their cover was sung by Tarja and Marco, hence why it was performed at Tarja's last show. Additionally, when Floor heard that Henk was going to be on the same season of the show as her, She asked if she could perform this with him, as Henk is her idol. Henk agreed, only on the condition that he'd be able to sing this with her when Nightwish tours the Netherlands... That tour is still on their schedule.

You really need to check out Henk singing The Sound of Silence on this show. Floor is a total fan girl for him from an early age and their friendship has really blossomed as a result of this meeting. Also Emma Heesters singing Strong for Floor will just destroy you. It was a song Floor wrote in tribute to her mother and Emma does such a beautiful and heart rending rendition of it that if you think of your own mothers you can't hide the feelings. Dolly you look beautiful as always but someone needs to check the camera settings as John is very orange, If that's the only negative from me it must have been a great reaction. 🐺❤️

Beste zangers is NOT like the voice. It was just created in the Netherlands just like the voice was. And then spread to other countries. The concept of the show is that singers all come together to sing for eachother. Every episode one of them is in the spotlight and the others sing one of their songs or a song that is important to them. Like an ode to the person in the spotlight. They make their songs their own. In the last episode every singer sings 2 duets of choice. Herk poort was the official Dutch phantom of the opera. Floor is a huge fan of him but he did not know her or of her. But by now they have recorded several songs together and performed on festivals together. She asked him to sing this together and he agreed.

You two really should react to an old video, "Chuncho", by the remarkable Peruvian singer Yma Sumac. In the early 1950's, Sumac was among the highest-paid singers in the world. She influenced innumerable artists. Among other things, she was one of the first women to include what we would call metal growling in her singing. And I guarantee you have never heard a triple trill before 😉

NightWish have performed with this song a long time ago with Tarja. And I'm fairly confident this is the "Nightwish arrangement" of the song, so they didn't make it metal on this show for Floor.

While I like Floor, she does not do this song as well as does Tarja. For me, what really takes away from this rendition is, Floor and Henk confuse who should be singing what during the song. Floor (Christine) sang some passages that should have been sung by Henk(Phantom) and visa versa. To me, this detracted from the performance. In addition, I didn't care much for Henk trying to put some metal growel in his voice. It is clearly not his Genre and it just didn't sound right to me?? Just my thoughts.
