„That track was strange - recalls Brian. I did the most of the lyrics for Freddie to sing and you can imagine what that felt like. I did ask him at one point if he was okay about it and he said, Yeah, totally okay about it. I will give it my all. And he did. He sang, I think, some of the best vocals of his life on that track, and most of the tracks on that album are incredible. He really was getting very weak by that time, but he could still summon up that strength to sing.” Freddie's determination and strength was incredible.

Outstanding song and performance. Brian wrote this song while Freddie was so sick and didn't intend for it to be a Queen song at all, but Freddie would come into the studio and beg for things to sing so Brian gave him this song. The deep sadness in this song is palpable but the strength with which Freddie delivers it is a testament to his determination and his love of singing. This is not an easy song to sing and Freddie nailed it, even the difficult high notes and delivered it with such amazing emotion. Thank you for reacting to this song.

? You think this was for Brians solo after Freddie died? This was for Innuendo album Chord sequence is what Brian heard them play in a jam session Brian has said in lots of interviews and on tv that he wrote this with Freddie but did most of the work putting it together as Freddie wasnt well Brian did the demo but was only able to sing in falsetto Its difficult for a good singer to sing words in high register in chest voice never mind when they're ill but Freddie nailed it If he hadnt been able to they could just lower it

Hi Dave... Actually, it was just the really high part that Brian talked about Freddie having done in one take. (It's kind of an "urban myth" now, that Freddie did the whole song in one take!) Brian was worried that the high notes would hurt Fred's throat; Freddie said "I'll F_______ do it, Darling!". Fred downed a shot of vodka, and sang that high section in one take. ; )

Her majesty QUEEN 👑 This is one of Brian’s masterpieces with some contributions from Freddie!! Honestly, other artists who have covered this song just don’t do it justice! Why? It’s about an ill-fated man declaring that “the show must go on” even tho his make up is flaking ….Who can convey such emotion other than Freddie?? 100% agree with you Debra. And he never moaned or complained to the World about his plight. He was steadfast and dignified to the bitter end. These days puff pieces are coming out of every orifice when some celebrity even sneezes. Just like Chadwick Boseman the actor. He kept on acting until he died of cancer and would you believe he told no one. These people are the true stars and heroes. ❤🌹

For my birthday a friend is taking me for lunch on Friday and another on Saturday so I'm excited. If you listen to the lyrics you will notice that Brian was writing about Freddie’s impending death. Also Freddie sing this song while on his deathbed. Not bad considering he was about to leave his mortal coil

Freddie was too ill to be able to make a new video for this recording, which is why they used an assortment of clips from past videos. I've read that he was able to do this song in one take.
