Can you imagine this was composed by Ravana, the demon who was later killed by Lord Rama. He was one of the biggest devotee of Lord Shiva . Asuras and Devas all worship Shankara 🙌 ❤

Lord Shiva is the God of destruction. HE is often called by the name 'Mahakal' or in simple words HE is time. Shiva Tandav Stotram was composed by Ravana [the main demonic character in Ramayana ( The history of Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu)] Ravana was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. He wanted to see Lord Shiva but Lord Shiva didn't show him HIS celestial form. So. he composed Shiva Tandava Stotram to impress Lord Shiva. Hope it helps. Sorry in advance for any mistakes. @aigerimisblue In our religion, Demons are not atheist or disbelievers. They believe that there is a Supreme Being. But they are possessed of evil energies. That's why, they do wrong things. Sometimes, they forget about God and want to be greater than Gods. To sustain the lives in earth, God come to the earth in human form to destroy evil and establish Dharma (righteousness) again, it's known as Avatar or Incarnation. In ramayana, Lord Rama is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu and HE kills Ravana (The evil energy). Om Namah Shivay!

@@seeyainablackhole Actually the 'Rakshasha' word was translated by britishers and the meaning was 'Demon'. But It's so confusing. If you read Ramayana and Mahabharata then you will realize that the Rakshashas were not like typical Demonic characters with Big teeth and horn. Rather, they are humans but they are possessed by evil or demonic energies. That's why they do demonic works. We still have Rakshasas in our society. The Killers, Rapists, Thieves all are Rakshashas. In Ramayana, we see that 'Ravana' did many wrong things. He stole Lord Ram's wife (Sita). So, he was possessed by evil energy. But he was not like this forever. He was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. But power made him greedy. Hence, he is called Rakshasha. As the modern transalation of the Rakshasha is 'Demon', I used it. Thanks

@@seeyainablackholein Hinduism both dev(demigods) and asur (demons) gets their power from Hindu Trinity (three most supreme gods of Hinduism Brahma,Vishnu and shiva). You can say that there are being of higher consciousness than human which got their power as a boon after doing har penance for centuries. For example after ravana did tapasya (worshipped)brahma for centuries he wanted to ask the boon of immortality which is against the rule of universe so, brahma asked him to ask anything other than that. So he asked for a boon that he would not ever be defeated by a asur(demon), dev(demigods), gandharva (celestial beings) and many other strong beings except human and vanar(half monkey like mans ex. Hanuman). So to kill ravan ,lord Vishnu take avatar in a human form to kill him .

It is composed by Ravan(demon) from Ramayan ,the one who Lord Ram killed from Lanka . Ravan was a great devotee of Lord Shiv and he composed it for Mahadev(lord Shiv) when he was a good person .😊

So there is some misinformation being spread here by few people, let me tell you the real story behind this divine mantra. Demon king "Ravan" composed and sang this song for pleasing lord shiva and to show his immense faith in him. The story goes like Ravan was very arrogant demon and he wanted to capture and sort of chain up every demi gods (Devatas) in his kingdom and he successfully captured many demi gods like "Shani Dev" (Son of Sun God) and even had "Kaal Devata" hung upside down (Kaal Devata is thought of being the personification of time) that signifies that time was in control of Ravana and nobody could kill him until "Kaal Devata" was freed. One day Ravana thought of capturing Lord Shiva and bringing him into his kingdom Sri Lanka (obviously out of his arrogance) so he went to Mount Kailash (Shiva is believed to reside in Mount Kailash with his wife Parvati) Upon arriving Mount Kailash, Ravana thought of uprooting the entire Mountain and lifting it to his kingdom along with Shiva as he thought the Mountain even started to lift with his sheer strength (Shiva at first was trying to test his strength so he let him lift the Mountain) but then Shiva pressed the Mountain down by his toe (Mind you Shiva just used his toe to press down the Mountain) With that Ravan's hands went into the earth's surface as the Mountain went sinking down, This caused an immense pain to Ravana and he started crying of anguish (Ravana thus literally means Crying of pain, Ravan's initial name was Dashagriva) Ravana weeped and started praising Shiva to relieve him of his pain, and WHILE PRAISING HE SUNG THIS FAMOUS MANTRA FOR LORD SHIVA. Shiva was pleased by his pure emotions and let him go.
