What’s the obsession with Hill. I must be missing something. Good player obviously but I wouldn’t have him ahead of CCS. MAyve ahead of Roots but he was always going to go.

Langdon, Davison, Hill all played in the Prem final, all play in technical set-piece positions and haven't been in a Borthwick squad before. Maybe he's worried about them having enough time to learn the calls & train the systems before getting on the plane? Langdon may also be carrying an injury.

I also agree Hill is great, but I recall Roots winning MOTM on debut against Italy in 6N, proving himself on the international stage already. So His inclusion isnt too surprising to me.

Dombrandt really should not be there in my opinion, I just really don’t like him. His work rate is poor, he will do flash things but rarely does any grunt work. Shocked that Muir missed out too, he’s been an absolute highlight for Bath this season

Disagree on lack of grunt work from Dombrandt. Think he does a lot of good tight work as well as picking his runs and his lines. Though don't see him as a starter for England at present.

He topped the turnover charts two six nations ago, set up Watson try and had notable impact of the bench when he came on after replacing Roots. He was in an in an unbalanced back row and a poor England team.

I think he topped tackle stats in his six nations campaign - not saying he should be there over others but I do think he does more than people acknowledge

I allways remind myself we are on the outside looking in. The Coaches National , & club talk about players. They have the best insight. Some players really do not need this tour to get back into the team. They need a rest & a good pre season. Like Van Poortvliet, for example. Players personal lives sometimes take precident. Why else do people opt for France. You know who we are talking about. Rugby has given these set off players an opportunity. Some will shine some will not. That is life. Lets look forward to an attacking England squad. You have to trust the coach. There careers are on the line as well. They all get sacked at some point.

I thought Langdon was injured and, possibly, Ted Hill, too. Davison was part of a pack that came second by a mile on Saturday. Also, need to take the opposition into consideration. Ben Curry won't let anyone down and has been outstanding for Sale all season. I would have preferred to see Ted Hill over Roots but if he's not 100% probably not worth the risk.

Incredible rise for Feyi-Waboso! All of a sudden he's an automatic starter. Excited to see Randall if he gets gametime. Pity not to see Ted Hill. Would prefer him over Ben Curry but maybe Borthwick is covering himself in case Tom isn't fully up to speed. England need a jackal threat to slow down NZ ball in particular.

I'd be really interested to know how many of the 'surprise omissions' weren't available through injury or other commitments (family stuff?). EG People have commented on Langdon being injured.

Not going to lie, seems like the Ben curry hate is far to strong, he's a really solid player with immense work rate and technical skills, and at a heavier weight making his carries far more effective. Yes he isn't Cunningham south with his 1or2 mega involvements per game. But defensive accumen and effort are his specialisms.

Agreed. Ben Curry was key to Sale’s run in to the playoffs. I think because he’s always compared to his brother, people must think he doesn’t have top potential.

Langdon injured Davison over Stuart - 50/50 but Stuarts experience wins out imo Ted Hill over Roots - Very tight call but Roots obvs has something that works in SB's system Barbeary over Dombrandt - On what planet? Barbery has had an OK season but nowhere near his potential.

Appreciate you’ve got to grab folks attention with the title, but not really much shock value to be had in that selection imo. Pretty sure Langdon would have gone but he couldn’t even raise his arm by the end of the Final. Davison might have gone but can’t see that many eyebrows getting raised that he isn’t. The best performing TH over the season made himself ineligible, after that there’s not much to get excited at. Ted Hill’s omission is the only major question mark for me, feels like Roots has been quite lucky there.

Do believe Langdon is injured or Borthwick not happy to wait on a clearer assessment of his arm injury. Saying that if so then Oghre must have really impressed Borthwick in camp . Also I would have taken Trevor Davison as we need tightheads fast tracked. But Tom Harrison has done a great job with the scrum and improved Will stuart and fancy’s improvement for joe heyes.

Davison and Langdon (and the Saints scrum) have been excellent overall this season and the last 2 games doesn’t change that, plus they won both games. While I get that scrummaging is important, their all round play is as good as anything English qualified and eligible. If Langdon is fit it’s astonishing that he is not there as he is the standout hooker in the league this year and was brilliant in the champions cup. I’m hoping he has a minor knock that rules him out for a few weeks only as otherwise I am baffled.

I think if Ben Curry for Hill. Maybe bring in Davison for one of the other tightheads, maybe Cole. Shame Obano can't tackle. I would've much preferred him to Bevan Rodd. A front row of Obano, George and Davison would've been amazing. Particularly in the scrum, which is a area we should be targeting NZ. Not much power in the backs unfortunately.

I know there is outrage over Hill but frankly he would only have been 4th choice at 6. Personally i see Curry there next to Underhill at 7, with CCS, and Ben Curry there Langdon is injured Davison unfortunately got shown up in the premiership final. So im not surprised he got left out

Backrow, whilst v.competitive is a real head-scratcher: Dombrandt just hasn't convinced at test level, IMO, and Curry has just come back from surgery (and his coach doesn't think he should tour); so why not take Tom Willis, or Ted Hill??

My view England have a chance to win the series against the All blacks a lot of their experience players have retired plus if you can beat them in the first test before they get that winning habit. Your in with a shout. England don't want to underestimate Japan Eddie Jones will be out for revenge. If Langdon has picked up a knock thats understandable, Davidson at almost 32 you think that could have been a factor but at 37 Dab Cole is still getting picked. Hill is the biggest omission for me, more so as I think Roots while a good honest player is premiership standard at best. Courtney Lawes is quoted as saying he sees CCS as an 8 rather than a 6.

the only chance ENG will have will be first test v ABS in Dunedin. Second test at Eden Park- no team has beaten ABS at Eden for 30 years

Thought Langdon got some kind of nasty knock on Saturday. Ted Hill should have gone every time. Silly taking t curry on a summer tour when he's got a wear and tear injury. Wings good, still think steward is too slow.

Borthwick clearly doesn't rate Hill. I see CCS & Hill as England's best two 6's moving forwards. They're a similar profile of player too (big hitters, lineout options, athletes etc.) so the balance of the pack is maintained when either plays. Langdon, as has been commented, might be injured. He simply had to go otherwise, as he's well ahead of Oghre, IMHO. Obano & Davison are simply better players than Rodd & Heyes. Heyes seems to be living a charmed life, as he just keeps getting picked. I wonder if Obano's red card had anything to do with selection?

Weakest Back Row selection imaginable - given the WC powerhouse of Lawes, Willis and Earl - we now have Dombrandt, Ben Curry, Roots and Tom Curry - who hasn’t played all season. Thank heavens Ben Earl and Sam Underhill are in the form of their lives. CCS will be a great player soon, but is too green to tour NZ at this point. Unbelievable that Hill, Pearson, Mercer (& Willis!) have been overlooked again.

It seems a bit harsh, or poor planning, that players making the finals are penalized, due to a lack of time. Play well for a good team... not selected due to lack of preparation

I can understand why Marler is in the squad to provide experience and mentoring to the other LHs. England have quality hookers coming out their ears - Curtis Langdon is very unlucky, had the sort of game in the final that IMO ought to have cemented his place but another poster has said he might be injured in which case his omission is understandable. TH is an odd selection. Stuart has had his chances at international level and never put in a performance to demand the shirt. No idea why Stuart got the nod over Davison Second row is a tricky one. Ewels is a like for like replacement for Martin but I would have preferred a more risky selection looking towards to the future Back row - why oh why does Borthwick keep giving Dombradt chances at international level. He has failed to show time after time that he has what it takes at that level. Leaving out Ted Hill is odd. I am hoping that Northmore gets a chance to show whether he is an international quality player or not

Langdon I believe is injured. And I admire his all round game was never sure why he was let go at sale , however nit sure he carries in heavy traffic as well he might , that said neither does Ogre . Thacker is the best tempo hooker in the prem sadly his size goes against him . Two second hoover tightheads both journey men for me , the north hants youngster is unlucky , I would have left Marler and Coles out .

Langdon is hard done by but realistically, because he has not been in the camp, and he is unlikely to get his first cap against nz in one of the 2 test, the only realistic game he would be involved with is Japan, and that's only two weeks for him to recover from the final and get up to speed so oghre probably goes simply because Langdon hasn't been available for camp Going forward, I see Langdon as second, if not first choice hooker

If I was langdon I would look at a french move, another mercer where despite being HEAD AND SHOULDERS above every other option is overlooked completly. Ted hill is pretty much a perfect lawes replacement. Ethan roots? Really jesus. Dombrandt is fine, but he has also had a ton of chances and this is the definition of insanity if you expect differnt results, looks like steve is wedded to earl at 8 despite the fact we have some quality 8's and curry is crocked, return of the trash selections, forward selection is poor, and I hope someone forces steve to answer questions on it. Freddie steward makes no sense if he doesnt fit the style you are going for. Luke northmore is head scratching... Man steve does not help himself.

You appear to be basing your selection shocks on club form tests are different, and a tour to New Zealand or South Africa even more different. No Genge? Dombrandt and Steward are not international class in my view. As a kiwi cant wait. We have lost more than half the team that beat Ireland , and no warmup test so you have the best chance ever of winning a series here.

Langdon being left out at hooker is ridiculous. He’s the best hooker in the premiere league at the moment on form. Also George should not be England captain. Why? Because he is not the best hooker in England fact , he’s probably 3rd or 4th in line. He isn’t as dynamic in the loose compared to Dan and Langdon. There is no time for sentiment in international rugby/sport he should have been stripped of the captaincy and even dropped altogether. I would also have taken Barbeary.

We have lost half the test side that beat Ireland, and they will have never played together before, so it's a great chance for England. And with your captain, itoje, curry, underhill and Earl, you have some great forwards
