I'm 68 and I love your reactions. You guys are hilarious. I've watched your reactions to others and just took a dive into Swift music this year. So much noise about her (and whining) that I decided to see what the fuss was about. I'm an old rock/blues guy and I was quite surprised at how many of her songs I actually enjoy. I know places is one of my favorite songs off of 1989 before she released the vault tracks, but the lyrics actually hit hard. It was when she was dating harry styles in 2012 and their relationship was constantly being talked about in the media and they had to find ways to hang out and be together in private in some way before their relationship ultimately failed.

I'm pretty sure the EAS channel didn't do much editing. The video they used was from the official video Taylor had done for the tour. Just like the one done for the Reputation tour. So most of the editing was done for that original - official - video.

As someone who loves everything Taylor makes and can find multiple things to gush over in all her work, I am actually *not* a superfan of this staging. I think the choreo upstages her, partially because the blocking seems to be too tight in set placement. I don’t know if that’s about venue or lighting or rigging but I think it’s a misuse of the proscenium which has a lot more room. I think the background dancing is a little bit unfocused maybe? I love this song and the concept, but I wish they had given Taylor more time to actually play in the doorframes, maybe more tableaux moments there. I know it’s likely the concert film edits that exacerbate this. Would love to know if others have interpretations of the dancers’ costuming in this section. I sort of get 80s sci-fi dystopia…but the doors and lighting and very opening made me want it to go more like…femme fatale noir? Especially with Taylor’s signature red lip and the tone of the song. I’m rambling. Obviously this song is great. It was one of the 1989 tracks I gravitated to on first listen (more probably than the singles, actually). What are other folks’ thoughts about the 1989 concert tone/concept overall? Also, the high belt with that grit in her voice! So goooood. Makes me hope for a pop rock concept album from her in the future (a la Haunted).

I do love her run and her stage presence is unmatched of course, but I kind of dislike this performance tbh... prefer the recording by miles. (I know it's normal in such a big production cause there're many songs and you need to save your energy where you can, but it feels like because of the nature of this specific song, she allows herself to rely a lot on the background singers... at least more than other songs in this set. and I personally don't love it, so prefer the audio)
