You didn't explain how you got to the 1.4 seconds. You just said t = 1.4, but how? you solved everything else in its method. I see no method here explaining how t is solved?

The 1.4 second reaction time that is calculated is the time it takes the driver to see and respond to the situation. The car is traveling at constant velocity during this time.

The driving manual here in US states that average driver reaction time is .75-1 seconds. Which one is it really?

So, we solve for the minimum acceleration distance needed to stop the car first in order to determine how far the car can go before it must start to slow down.
