Another interesting invention from Norway is the first Object-oriented programming language, called Simula 1 and Simula 67 which was a major influence and a foundation for many other programming languages like Java, c++ and etc.

I come from Southern Norway, but I love the UK and have been to various parts of England, Wales and Edinburgh. I would have liked to see more of Scotland and Northern Ireland though. I find Brits very friendly, hospitable and helpful, especially in the districts and am fascinated by British culture and history (am also an English teacher).

Yeah, a bit of a strange video that there. Viking festivals?, never heard about, lived in Norway all my life. Also, the thing about most norwegians going to Sweden to do grocery shopping is nonsense. I mean, there are a lot of people who live close to the border who do this, but it would take a long time to buy groceries if I were to go there. Anyway, nice reaction.

Very true what you said about the shopping in Sweden. I live on the west coast and thus I live too far away from the border to go shopping in Sweden but I have relatives in the eastern part of Norway who live closer to the border and they will sometimes go on "harryhandel" in Sweden.

There are alot of annual viking fastivals. Regions differs though

@@DidrickNamtvedt yeah same here. It would cost me way more to go shopping in Sweden, since I live quite far away. But I also have family members who go shopping a few times a year, but they live close to the border.

About Norwegian prisons...I have worked in a few. And visited more. Halden og Bastøy are always out there. They are NOT the standard.

I love Grandiosa pizza. Also, we have Taco fridays (fredags-taco), but it is not like Mexican tacos at all. But it's good. But if you really want to eat Norwegian food, you should try some fish and game dishes. Have also attended a Viking and Middle Age festival. Learned how to shoot with a long bow, and drank a lot of mjød (a type of beer). The festival was good fun, but is not as popular as it comes out in this video. It is usually only people living close to the Swedish border that shop in Sweden. The price difference is almost non-existing at the moment (2023).

Norway (and the other Nordic countries in general) are expensive for other nationalities, but generally the wages are on par with the "expensive" cost of living. A rarely mentioned fact is the flip side: Virtually everywhere else is dirt cheap to Norwegians (and other Nordics) so the Nordics can afford a lot of traveling to other countries - and they do!

Scottland and Norway has many simillarities.Nature, climate etc.Your castles are magnificent. We don't have that ! The cost of living is crazy now, food, electrisity, fuel and interest costs are skyrocketing.

When it comes to Norwegian prisons, sure it looks luxurios when it comes to the rooms, buildings etc. But what is the most important is the focus on rehabilitation versus punishment. There is a very important question asked by the prison. What kind of neibourgh do you want to have? Because as every prisoner will be released some day back to society the prisons focus on helipng inmates to be prepared for that life and become a productive part of society. Investing in people and the future. Althoug we have a meximum sentence of 21 years this can be prolonged for really seriuos affenders if they are considered to be a threat to society. Ref: the man behind the massacre in Oslo july 22. 2011.
