Some background on a few of the names you will have heard: Jamie Whincup is statistically the G.O.A.T. He is the Lewis Hamilton of Supercars. He won 7 titles between 2008 and 2017, including 4 in a row. He retired at the end of 2021 and is now team principle of Triple 8 Racing. Shane van Gisbergen (SVG) is the Max Verstappen of the current era. No matter where he starts on the grid, you can never count him out of the race for the win. Put him in anything, anywhere and in any conditions and he will perform. He’s an extremely smart racer, using every possible advantage to get him over the line first. A notable performance of his was when he won a race (race 3, Sandown 2021) starting from 21st all while suffering from a broken collarbone and loaded up on painkillers. He has won three titles in ‘16, ‘21 and ‘22. EDIT: If you needed any more convincing that SVG is a freak, he's just gone and won a NASCAR race on debut - the first in 60 years to do so. He carved through the field from 18th in just 20 laps after the restart, passing all the NASCAR greats as he did so. It's highly likely we'll see him move over to the states in -2025- 2024. Scott McLaughlin is a wonderkid. He won a race in his debut year in 2013 and was practically the only driver to take a Volvo and seriously challenge the Fords and Holdens. He was also the only driver to match (or beat) Whincup and SVG. He won three titles from ‘18 to ‘20 before he left for the states. He now races in Indycar and has 4 race wins over there. Craig Lowndes is one of the greatest drivers of the sport. He entered the sport in 1995 and won the title in ‘96, ‘98 and ‘99, and finished runner-up another 6 times after that. He has won the Bathurst 1000 -a record- 7 times, being mentored by the late great Peter Brock. Craig only retired in 2019, but was still winning races at that point. Mark “Frosty” Winterbottom is a fierce racer, and was always in the talks for the title. He came close for so long before finally winning his one and only title in ‘15. He’s in his 40s now, but still in good form as he has won a race this year, his first in 7 years. Will Davison is for the most part a decent mid-field driver and has never really challenged for the title, but on his day is capable of some crazy good performances. He races with Mclaughlin’s old team now. Chaz Mostert and Cam Waters are lightning quick drivers that always seem to find each other. They both entered the sport around the same time (~2013) and have racked up race wins nearly every year. They’re always in championship talks but have never quite beaten SVG, Whincup and Scotty. But again, on their day, they can bring the fight to anyone. For Chaz, the best moment of his career was the 2014 Bathurst 1000 (the last lap was a clip in this video) where he started from dead last, hit the wall, fell a lap behind, and yet came through to win by overtaking the then-5-time champ Whincup to the line on the last lap. All in his second season in the sport. I consider that race to be the greatest race in motorsport history (it’s up on KZbin in full of want to watch it, but beware that it is 8 hours long and action-filled the whole way). James “JC” Courtney is another notable title winner. Dominant in 2010, he has since fallen off but he’s usually up there in the top 10 and will score a few podiums every year. He’s also funny as hell. David Reynolds has forever been a midfield driver, but every now and then he can push his car to unlikely poles and podiums. Never won a title, but has plenty of wins to his name. And he’s just as much of a larrikin as JC. Garth Tander is a long-time veteran of the championship, having snagged the title in 2007. He has won the Bathurst 1000 five times and was always one of the top drivers. He’s now a part of the commentary team. Anton De Pasquale is usually a midfield driver, but in the right car he is lighting quick too. In 2021 he was a dominant driver at certain tracks, but his team wasn't behind him to keep the consistency. He’s most comparable to Charles Leclerc as he excels in qualifying but struggles to perform without the car to match. An upcoming name you will start to hear is Brodie Kostecki. Only debuted a couple of years ago, but he has already made a name for himself. He drives the car like a NASCAR, never afraid to get a little rough. He’s the first person I’ve seen since Scotty and Whincup that can consistently take the fight to SVG and beat him at his own game. He’s started winning races this year, and is currently leading the 2023 championship. Brodie’s teammate Will Brown is also one to watch. Not as aggressive in his racecraft, but if you let him get ahead of you, he’ll just drive away and dominate the race. He’s fairly new to the sport too but has already racked up several wins. EDIT: Journos are reporting he's just been called up to take SVGs seat starting next year. I can't say I saw that coming, but I can't wait to see what he can do. And lastly, Broc Feeney. Rookie last year, and has since won multiple races. He’s beating his teammate SVG right now. He’s showing racecraft and experience that only the old-timers have. He’s possibly the most exciting prospect to come. Thanks for reading. This sport is so entertaining and interesting, and I love seeing people finding and enjoying it as much as I do.

You must be young enough to have not seen Larry Perkins and Russel Ingall go from front to last to nearly lapped twice and then finished first in the 95 Bathurst. I rate it above Mostert's only because it was a car engineered, developed, built and the team managed by the driver, without adjustable driver aids and data logging, just seat of the pants feedback. The other one is Peter Brock, who by the way, holds the record with 9 wins, and him and Jim Richards took the A9X to a 6 lap lead and set the lap record on the last lap. Total domination. All of your other comments are pretty much spot on, except that a couple of the racers you seem to have rated a lot higher than I would have. lol

There was three cases of running out of fuel in that video. The redress rule basically says if you hit another car out of you way, spin it, run it off the track etc, you can slow down and let them overtake you to make it "OK", if you don't do that you get a penalty.

In that last one, you can't hit a guy out if the way and take an advantage, but if you do it, you can avoid penalty by allowing the hit car back past you. This one was the last lap, so the red car slowed down in an attempt to let the blue car back past and in doing so, avoid the penalty. The driver of the blue car slowed down and didn't allow the redress to happen before they'd crossed the finish line ensuring a penalty for the red car. It was very smart, and devious racing.

For excitement and top class racing, watch the last 10 or more laps of the 1994 Bathurst 1000. Lowndes was unbelievably quick in the rain and was making his Holden Commodore dance in the rain. Bowe was using every bit of natural talent , skill , experience and trickery to stay ahead...... at a speed he would rather not attempt in the rain........some of the best racing and driving ever...... and Craig Lowndes was an unknown just starting his career.

He could possibly have 10 Bathurst's, and remember, 3 of their Bathurst wins were together. I love Lowndesy, absolute legend on and off the track and a crowd favourite. But the way Whincup dominated him for years and years at Triple Eight just (in my opinion) proves to me Whincup was better. They spent 13 years as teammates at Triple Eight and Whincup beat him 11 of the 13 years. Number 3 was Newcastle in NSW, a picturesque and challenging street circuit. Notice how strategy in fuel management plays a huge role in some outcomes. Many times these guys have avoided a pit stop for fuel but then have to drive much more conservatively to [hopefully] finish. Tyre degradation also features heavily. Drive too hard and you have no rubber left and lap times blow out. Throw in safety car interventions [and there are often many, due to driver over-enthusiasm] and your pit stop, fuel and tyre management plans go out the window.

I have to disagree with some of this. I would've said Adelaide followed by the Gold Coast for street circuits but I'm now going to have to say that Newcastle is my favourite of the street tracks, particularly now that they're really no longer the GP and Indy circuits they were.. Bathurst of course is technically a public road but it's really an enclosed circuit, though arguably one of the greatest in the world. It's received much greater recognition worldwide in say the past couple of decades but for far longer than that drivers and motorsports enthusiasts from around the world would prick up their ears and gain a light in their eyes at the word Bathurst. Having said all that he Phillip Island GP circuit is I feel sadly is underrated and ranks up there with Mount Panorama and any other track you care to name, not just in Australia but around the world. It's a different beast to Bathurst but it's every bit the beast with it's flat-out sweeping curves carving up hill-and-down-dale with Bass Straight rising up in front of you as you come over the crest on the Gardner Straight at over 280km/h in a Supercar or 350km/h on a MotoGP 😳

I reckon number 5 is the best, I get Whincup was on fuel conserve, but c'mon.... an iconic race, on the last lap, at the death, with the winning maneuver at an iconic corner, who takes the lead for the first time in the race on an iconic straight for a his debut Bathurst 1000 win. It doesn't get more 'dramatic' than that!

Rules are you must be past the B Pillar to be classed as a fair pass but it's a top V8 supercargo racing best in the world all about a level playing field so it comes down to set up and driver abilities. That tight track was in Newcastle about 100km north of Sydney

That last video was the red bull car getting turned around by the shell car. The shell car attempted to readdress the mistake (to avoid getting a penalty) by letting the Red bull car pass him, but because the Red bull car didnt pass him and intentionally crossed the line behind the shell car, the shell car couldnt give the position back to the red bull car, effectively getting a penalty as they crossed the line. Just some dirty tactics that Shane Van Gisbergen (red bull car) is known to use in this series. I would love for you to watch one of the best championship decider race (imo) for this series. 2010 - Sydney Telstra 500 wet weather carnage

The last one, #11 bumped the rear of #97 and gained an advantage by doing so. #11's race engineer told him to let #97 redress. #97 didn't let him, so #11 incurred a 5 second time penalty. It didn't affect #11 second place win, as #6 was more than 5 seconds behind to get third place. #97 first place, #11 second place, #6 third place. As the 3 winners pulled into victory lane, #11 went to apologise to #97, who didn't want a bar of it. I am sure this is on you tube as well.

I'd rather watch V8 Supercars anyday. More grunt and fightin than vrooooooooooom gone. Proud as too as my sons working for one of the teams. Awesome stuff. Van Gisberg just done a NASCAR race and they reckon his footwork is 2nd to none. The NASCAR drivers were blown away 😂, theres a video but yeah the Americans just couldnt believe it and I'm pretty sure he won the race and he'll go there in the next few years

the last one!!! so car 11 spun car 97 on the last corner. under the rules if car 11 then let 97 past again he would not get a penalty. which could be 5 sec or more. so he slowed down to let 97 past before the checkered flag (last lap), but 97 didn't pass him (deliberately) which means 11 got the penalty and effectively lost more point of his championship

Maaaaaaaate let me tell ya the V8s are incredible live. I went to the F1 in Melbourne this year, because I too have followed F1 near my whole life so 40 something years and the disappointing thing is that the V8s (and F2's for that matter) are louder than F1. I miss the roar of the 80s and 90s of F1 as I went to every Adelaide F1 gp too. The commentary team is much better too because they just want hard racing and they're not biased poms like you get on sky F1 feed. But you'd love seeing a Supercars race live, I've folded on the H v F thing now and yeah the cars look ok, I'm just glad I saw the red v blue battles and if you know, you know.

I watched no 10 live, and seriously wanted the New Zealander, Von Gisbergen to lose - this is our race! 😁 So many heroes, but Peter Brock was the best! Chas Mostyn, Jamie Wincup and Craig Lowndes are incredible! They are so brave, passing is so dangerous! Fuel levels can create a real issue at the end! Newcastle was the venue of no 2! No 1 was so stressful, and so close! These guys are dead serious! 😳😟
