Australia is 5000km wide (that’s more than 1/7 of the circumference of the earth at the Tropic of Capricorn) - so it’s going to have at least 3 time zones. In winter, Australia has three time zones, South Australia and the Northern Territory is 30 minutes behind the eastern states, and Western Australia is two hours behind the eastern states. In Summer, the four states in the southeast have daylight saving, and move one hour ahead, which splits Australia in 5 time zones.
@kimpalmer7138 ай бұрын
This is nearly correct. Eucla and 4 other towns have its own time zone half way between WA-s and SA's which is UTC +8hrs 45 minutes

@noelleggett53688 ай бұрын
@@kimpalmer713 But it’s the eastern side of WA. With Daylight Saving, as long as there is a reasonable amount of twilight, an eastern longitude is favourable. (South Australia has daylight saving and 30mins difference from Victoria because most of its population is in the east.) I’m guessing the odd time zone allows for the longitude.

The issue with sausage sizzles and whether the onion should be on top or bottom was because a fellow slipped in Bunnings on some onion which had fallen from somebody's sausage sizzle. He then petitioned Bunnings to make the vendors put the onion on the bottom so it was less likely to fall. No comment on whether it changes the taste.

1) Sour cream & sweet chilli is a pretty standard accompaniment for wedges here but not worth losing your mind over. 4) Yep. Lost many layers of skin from the roof of my mouth biting into a juicy meat pie which I already knew was going to be too hot! 13) It's not the wifi connection itself - it's a long story about neglected internet infrastructure (specifically cabling and bandwidth capacity) and old telco monopolies. 17) Yeah our tinned beetroot is basically equivalent to your beetroot in a jar (normally pickled). 24) The timezone problem is related to daylight saving/summer time because some States do it and some don't. It can become a bit of a hassle for businesses.
@mebeme0078 ай бұрын
1) Sour cream must at least be offered with wedges, or I'm not interested. 13) It's not so much about old telco monopolies. But it was the LNP (Liberal National Party) government who relied on only using PART fibre optic cabling and PART of the old outdated copper network, to create the pathetic NBN set-up they gave us. (Remember Tony Abbott virtually labelling Malcolm Turnbull as the inventor of the internet, way back during the 2013 election campaign). It was all so the LNP could brag that their version of the NBN was supposedly going to come in cheaper than the ALP (Australian Labor Party) alternative, which was entirely replacing the old copper network and putting fibre optic cabling all the way through the entire network system. And look how well the LNP's efforts turned out. Ended up costing taxpayers trillions more than either party claimed it would cost to set up, having to go back through replacing a lot of the old copper network and putting fibre optic throughout, which they should have done properly in the first place. And the only winner is those who manage the NBN network.

This is not a plug, just fact. Been with Telstra since we got married in '82 and can't remember any major problems, always pretty quick to help. Connected to the NBN as soon as it became available and apart from a couple of little teething problems all okay. Had a lightening storm go through a few weeks ago and a huge bolt of lightening killed the green dome next my driveway at 2 am. DAMN IT WAS LOUD!! The cat thought it was fun (she's weird like that). Called Telstra next day, they got together with NBN and all was fixed within 3 days. Telstra monitored it for a week to make sure and kept me informed the whole time. Internet speed is around 85 mbps which is fine.

28 - Prawns and seafood in general have become rather popular in Australia on Christmas Day in more recent years. Many of us Aussies (like my family) still enjoy a hot meal for Christmas lunch, with turkey and all the trimmings, no matter how hot the day can be. It can get into the 30+ degrees celsius range, naturally, since we have Christmas during our summer period. But sometimes, mostly in the more southern parts of the country, we can be fortunate enough to have a much more milder or cooler day, weather wise. And it makes the day much more enjoyable all round. And my family will sometimes include seafood, cold meats like ham, and salads for later in the day. Where as many others nowadays, especially younger Aussies, have moved away from our Aussie/Brit traditions, and prefer to just stick to the prawns, other types of seafoods, cold meat and salad meals to enjoy on a hot Christmas day. It usually ends up with many Aussies going to the beach, playing a game of backyard cricket, etc. And then there are those (especially the men) who love to have a nap in the afternoons because they've had so much to eat at lunch. 😂 I have some fond memories of my dad and uncles all passing out asleep on the couch or in their armchairs, laughing and taking pics of them. I even recall one year my dad and uncles all comparing how big their bellies were after eating so much, like it was a badge of honour to have the largest belly. 🤣🤣 Good times.

As Christmas occurs in the middle of summer in Australia there has been a big swing to seafoods, salads, cold meats and lighter foods in general. For the last 20 or so years, the 24th of December has been the biggest day for seafood markets. Some even trade non stop from December 23rd! Heat can really kill your appetite. More people are having roasts as cold meat, or maybe in the evenings.
@mebeme0078 ай бұрын
However, since Boomers make up the largest demographic in Australia, and Gen X second. There are still many of us who grew up on hot roast turkey, roast veg and all the trimmings for lunch on Christmas day, no matter how hot it is. And we still love to keep that tradition alive. We just keep the seafood, ham, salad, etc, for later in the day and Boxing Day leftovers.

8. Yes, it’s a positive thing to buy a snag in bread, for me is mostly due to the workers are volunteering and they’re mostly $2 for a snag only, maybe $3.50 with onion. Onion on the base is best to ensure you get all the onion, on the top you tend to drop it, pending your bite size. 10. It’s always a nice gesture to give a “wave” or “thumbs up” thank you to the worker with the “go, stop” or known as the “lollipop sign”, as they’re, as a group roadworker helper keeping the traffic safe.

No offence to my fellow Aussies. But I think vinegar destroys the sweet taste of beetroot. I grew up eating beetroot that had been boiled like a potato until the skin loosened. Left to cool before peeling and eating. It's very easy to eat at least half a beetroot when it's been prepared that way. Some people even add them to their vegetables when making a roast dinner. I've tried it once and loved it.

Did a list while watching this vid :) Added one for 30 1, you can actually buy cream cheese with sweet chilli sauce included. And any quality shop that sells hot chips will serve wedges. 2, I disagree, Passiona is way better. The Pasito seems to give off an after taste for me but a cheaper option... I did hear that Halls (An old Aussie brand from way back) might be about to get up and going again. 3, Dare is epic, especially the limited edition Intense version (red label) Dare actually said they will make it as part of the normal production now as it was so popular. (some might disagree as there are so many milk manufacturers in Aus) 4, Every, Single, Time. You can't wait. Add more tomato sauce to help cool it off first haha. 5, If they fit on your fingers... But yes. Also be careful not to bite your fingers lol 6, It's Chicken Parmigiana, so naturally Parmi is the right option. Correct me if I'm wrong and we will have a discussion about it, ALL NIGHT. 7, "How's it going" is more of a greeting and often replied with "How's it going" Some people will say "Yeah good thanks" after being asked, some will even say "Yeah good thanks" before even being asked haha 8, A gold coin or better is the best way to find our national delicacy that someone else has cooked (always tastes better) and it goes to a local group for charity. Legendary level of Aussie.... Except this one time when the onions had to be revised. (A full other story that shocked the nation, I kid you not... Headline news) 9, As above, number 8, I got ahead of myself but I had to mention it. The onions used to be on top and fall off on occasion, someone slipped one spilt onions day and sued... (Pretty unAustralian) 10, The sign holder is bored out of his mind no doubt, at least let em know you acknowledge them :) "yeah cheers for letting me go now" 11, Yeah if you see someone do something stupid or embarrassing too. "That's your mate" 12, Yep, if you don't know names when referring to someone it's "Old Mate" or if a female "This Shiela" 13, In some cases the mobile network outdoes our latest internet connection that is still being rolled out across Australia (and seemingly already outdated before they finished it) NBN is the National Broadband Network responsible for laying fibre optic cable across the country. Wifi is possible to be good with a good router but only as good as the actual fibre connection. 14, I disagree if anyone ever sees an AFL grand final day or the Adelade 500, or Bathurst 100. But these are all Aussie events. I don't get what number 14 is about. 15, Clutching at straws now, Pink is great but, yeah maybe. Definitely consider some others though. I reckon Kylie is our godess, so.... 16, I'm 43, who the F**K is Andre Rieu? 17, How does one even prepare fresh beetroot, and why would you? (I guess tinned would be like your UK pickled/jarred stuff) 18, Centerlink is a government thing to support people.... NUFF SAID 19, No Aldi store in my town, and yep. I hear all about it. 20, No idea, kinda rings a bell 21, I dunno, in summer maybe. I grow my own but they are ripe when they are cheap lol 22, Pretty sure only if you are on the dance floor, can't have the elderly doing that.... 23, Jim has waaaaaay more stuff than the pic. Jim's sewing, Jim's dog walking,, Jim's PC repair. ANYTHING you can think of, I bet Jim can do it. But Jim's franchise is always shunned upon because a typical Aussie bloke should be able to do it himself... It's kinda a parody in a way but still... 24, Aus is the same size as the US,, time zones are kinda required,, but it is pretty bad when QLD on the East coast refuses to use daylight savings time to coordinate with the other Eastern states. It ruins everything. Not sure if Darwin are the same? Which ruins the central Aus time. (5 time zones in summer, 3 in winter) 25, Definitely,, and you have to be a local to know what pub is best if you go out with friends. Some serve lamb's fry others are more fine dining... BUT we can always get a Parmi or a Rump steak at the pub. (If not, then they aint worthy of anyone being there) 26, If it's your round at closing time you are responsible for the taxis and well being of making sure every is going home :) Almost rather watch Eastenders haha 27, Neither, but if I was forced to watch one It's Home And Away first (Neighbours no longer exists kinda I saw something about a revival lol) 28, Yep not only is it prawn season, but them buggers taste so sweet cause usually you didn't buy them lol. No time to pull the poo shoot vein out, munch as many as you can before they are all gone. We have monster prawns here, 5 tigers are a good feed but never enough. Stand back and watch a crowd demolish it as soon as they hit the table. (Summer xmas in AUS, seafood is more traditional than roasts, but roasts are still proudly cooked on a kettle bbq pending fire danger ratings) 29, What about Peter Brock too? Aussie legends that people are so quick to forget about unless you are a bogan... But still, legends are too forgotten so easily. RIP all my Aussie heros :) (See that pic of Shane Warne? It's like 2 legends looking at each other.) Sorry for the long comment, I love the reaction vids you do. Just wondering though.... You ever visited Aus? Apart from the wildlife and many other ways to die, it's actually pretty unreal. 30, Everyone is always welcomed in Aus, just do the right thing.... The 29 things above are actual key to Aus

But a traditional parmigiana is just a schnitzel covered in traditional sauce and cheese. A schnitty is a schnitzel, pure and simple, meat coated in flour, egg and breadcrumbs. Jims Mowing is so bloody expensive. I just get a local guy to do my mowing. Cheaper and keeps the locals in business.

@@JudeAussie 1 million percent agree. I got someone from Jim's mowing to come in and do my lawns which had started to become overgrown due to waiting so long for a local bloke to decide if he wanted the business of doing my lawns or not. Cost me almost $400 just for a simple mowing (the grass hadn't quite reached shin height in some places). No grass caught and taken away or even put into my green waste recycle bin or anything. Thankfully a local bloke finally came through for me and it costs me less than half that now to get it done. Will NEVER get Jim's mowing to do my lawn ever again.

Christmas is in summer here. Prawns and seafood are a very common xmas dinner. So much more sensible to eat cold food than a huge heavy and hot meal on the day. We grew up eating traditional roasts, but grew a brain eventually. I don't eat them, but prawns are hugely popular on the day. We buy them already cooked, as a rule. Daylight saving adds time zones, and because Queensland does not have it, it is an hour behind the other eastern states at that time. I hope we never get it. Stupid idea.

1 - Wedges with at least sour cream, is a must. Sweet chilli sauce I can take or leave. 2 - Not fussed about which passionfruit soft drink tastes better. 3 - Dare is the worst iced coffee drink IMO. Farmer's Union is first for me. If I can't get that, then either, a Big M or an Ice Break is an ok substitute. 4 - You're not a true-blue Aussie if you haven't burnt/scalded any part of your mouth on a boiling hot meat pie. 5 - Cheezels taste good any old way. Eating them off your fingers starts as a kid, and just remains the odd novelty as an adult. 6 - I truly don't care what others choose to call it. I call it a Parma (Melbourne born and bred) and only care if they taste good. 7 - It depends WHO is asking "Howzit going?". Most people, for example shop assistants, ask and expect a simple, "good", "fine" response. Those closer to you someone is, different matter. 8 - Bunnings (an Australian hardware chain of stores) have long done sausage sizzles on weekends, run by different local charity groups. Some schools used to do them also, when their sporting halls were used for voting booths on election days, then it got a jazzy name, "democracy sausage", then suddenly every school ground, community group, etc, that has polling booths on election days is running a sausage sizzle now. 9 - I'm not fussed whether fried onions go on the top or bottom of a snag in bread. As long as they're cooked well, along with the snag, is all that matters to me. Seems to be too much fuss about which food, drink, etc is better, how to have it served, etc. I'm an Aussie. I'm not fussed. If it's cooked well and tastes good, that's all I mostly care about. And I could care less how Scott Morrison prefers his onions. Stupid SkyNews journalists asking a ridiculous question like that. 10 - That must be a rural/regional thing. Because most people in the major cities aren't worrying about that sort of thing. Can't even get people to wave or give the one finger salute anymore, when you give way to them going around parked cars. And do people expect the council worker to wave back every time. If so, he'd get a sore arm if he worked in the city, and he'd never get anything else done.

11 - Reminds me of the old Jimeoin jokes on his tv show back in the 90's. Where one of them would tell some outrageous story about something that allegedly happened to a mate. And then Jimeoin or Bob Franklin or Glenn Robbins or any of the others on the show would say, "That's not a mate. That's you". 🤣 I still think of that to this day, whenever someone is telling some crazy tale that supposedly happened to their "mate". 12- "Old Mate" is something I've only really recently started seeing more and more often. Not something I've heard all of my 48 yrs of living. 13 - NBN is the National Broadband Network. It took Australia far too long to catch up with the rest of the civilised world, in getting fibre optic cabling installed throughout, to replace the old outdated copper phone network. Back at the 2013 Federal election, the Aussie Labor Party promised they would finally install a fibre optic cable system right throughout the country, if they were to get re-elected. The opposition (Liberal National Party) tried to slammed the cost of the ALP's proposition, and heavily bragged that they could install the NBN for much less cost and in half the time. All because they foolishly decided to only run HALF a fibre optic system and still rely on HALF of the old copper network system. Well, the LNP won the election in 2013 and needless to say, the NBN installation has been nothing but a disaster from day one. It ended up taking many more years to be installed than initially promised, even longer than the ALP were planning. Some of us only just got the NBN in their area about 2-3 yrs ago, despite living in a major city. All because the installers were forever having to go back to people who had theirs installed, and fix up cables and things when their internet connections were forever dropping out, causing issues for their businesses and so on. And obviously, it ended up costing taxpayers trillions more than either the LNP or the ALP initially promised it would supposedly cost. All because they have wasted money having to go back repeatedly and fix things up. When, if they had just gone through and put in fibre optic right throughout in the very first place, there would have been much less return visits required to get the whole thing going and working for everyone. I'm assuming the Buzzfeed thing is an old article. Because the NBN is getting much better now, now that NBN installers are actually going around and replacing the old copper network entirely with the fibre optic cables. And now that the ALP are back in government, we are now able to get the fibre optic cabling directly to our homes as well. And it's done for free. Where as before, it would only go as far as the gutter/kerb outside your house, or to a centralised hub nearby (at the end of your street or around the corner), and the copper network was used from the kerb or the hub to your home or place of business. And you would have to pay thousands to get the fibre optics installed directly to your premises.

14 - I don't know why some people think that the Sydney 2000 Olympics was so fantastic. Most of us (who were even alive and old enough at the time) can barely only remember a few moments that still get occasionally spoken about, or are repeatedly mentioned to this day. The Opening ceremony, with the silly kangaroos on bicycles and Nicky Webster (the girl in the pink dress) coming out on a giant thong aka flip flop. Most people can't even remember which singers or bands even performed at either of the Opening or Closing Ceremonies. Few remember one or two. The torch relay is only ever fondly remembered by those who participated (or their loved one that participated). Same with the volunteers who helped out during the event. But most of all, Cathy Freeman. Her win and her lighting the cauldron. Anyone would think we had no other Aussie athletes at the Sydney Olympics, since the entire attention has only been about Freeman for so many years now. I get the significance around Aboriginals, etc. But to blatantly forever overlook the many other great Aussie sporting achievements at that event is pretty disheartening. IMO.

15 - I love Pink. I understand why so many Aussies love her, too. But I certainly wouldn't call her "our Queen". 16 - Nor would I say Andre Rieu is "our King". Seriously, who came up with that ridiculous notion? Btw, I'm 48. I don't think I've ever even heard one of his songs. Let alone call him "our King", fgs. I was also an avid fan of Neighbours since it started (when I was 9 yrs old), until about 8 yrs ago (I've since got into EastEnders instead). I couldn't have given a flying frig when he appeared on Neighbours.

17 - Tinned beetroot is the same as in the jar. I've only ever had it from a tin, so I can't say what is better. And I love tinned beetroot, whether sliced with some cold meat and some salad, in a burger, whatever. 18 - Yes, a call to Centrelink can be very frustrating and annoying when you're in the queue, listening to their poxy easy-listening music, waiting for what seems like forever. But in all my years of having to deal with Centrelink (for myself or someone I care for, on and off since the early 90's) I have NEVER been on hold for that long. I think this 2hr, 3hr accusation is likely coming from a very overdramatic person. Which many people tend to be nowadays, especially when they post their gripes on social media.

19 - Not all Aldi shoppers are like vegans. No, we don't all go out of our way to brag about being an Aldi shopper. However, if someone does rarely happen to mention Aldi, discuss something that they brought from there, etc. It may end up with those people talking about how much they love to shop at Aldi. Just as some of us also do when we talk about Kmart. But no, we don't all boast about shopping at Aldi. (Again, who came up with this garbage at Buzzfeed?) 20 - Who or what the frig is Lil Elvis and his sidekicks? Can't be that fantastic if this old chook hasn't even heard of them. I've come to know of Bluey in more recent years. I kinda understand why that show is so popular. But if some middle aged woman (like me) hasn't heard of the Lil Elvis show, then it can't be that globally popular.

Have you ever tried cold boiled beetroot? It's sweet, so good. It has to be boiled for 1hour or longer to soften it right through, and leave 4cm of the stalks if fresh, or most of the colour and flavour, will be in the water.
