The Sunrise Aveunue was way way more popular in Germany than it was in Finland. The singer of the group Samu Haber has been coach for Voice of Germany for 7 seasons so he is pretty liked personality there.

hanoi rocks was the band that made the LA Sunset Strip scene. Unfortunately during their first US tour their drummer died in car crash. Driver were Vince Neil from Mötley Crue. Hanoi Rocks were huge influence for lot of huge bands like Guns N Roses, Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers. And the lead singer Michael Monroe also plays sax at GnR Use Your Illusion 1 song Bad Obsession and sing duet with Axl Rose at Spaghetti Incident song Aint It Fun. He has played for examble with Aerosmith, GnR, Metallica, Lemmy and Ramones. You should check their song Back to Mystery city live at Marquee 1983 so you can see how good chemistry they had and how good live band it was.

I think Alma is the only one of this list that still makes new music. I'm not completely sure about that, but at least none other gets any time on the radio. Time has passed on, and the 2000s was a quarter of a century ago. Time for younger generation to get their limelight. It's just harder to break big nowadays, so much more competition.

Poets of the Fall has been featured in many Remedy Entertainment's games (which is a Finnish game developer for example of the first two Max Payne games, etc.). In Remedy's Alan Wake 1 & 2 and Control games, the band is featured as an in-game rock group with an alternative name, "Old Gods of Asgard".

One of the internationally less known / underrated, but nationally immensely popular Finnish groups is called Ultra Bra. They were active in the scene during 1994-2001, but have made several comebacks thereafter. The following major comeback is scheduled for next summer with e.g. 3 stadium concerts in Helsinki. They have more or less a unique genre combining pop, rock and vocals with big band style arrangements. This live concert of 2017 has English subtitles, enjoy: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnvapIebiL-Uh7M.

I'd recommend checking out Poets of the Fall acoustic performances, too. They have whole series on KZbin called "Alexader Theatre Sessions". I think the Carnival of Rust is the best performance in that series but "Angel" is also really good. If you want to see a live performance with the whole band, Carnival of Rust performance from their Moscow 2013 show it really good. The whole gig can be found on the official Poets of the Fall channel on KZbin.

Along with Finnish punk and metal, YT and especially Käärijä's success in Eurovision Song Contest, Finnish language isn't quite as big obstacle for a Finnish artist/band to be popular abroad. Before that, if a Finnish artist or a band tried to gain international popularity, they had to perform in English-whether they could speak it or not. In Estonia and among E.g. the Swedish-Finns Finnish language obviously hasn't been such of a problem, but it's still on the strange side, if E.g. Swedish musicians without Finnish ancestry perform Finnish songs or even sing in Finnish. There have been few exceptions, thought, and some of them in Asia. In 1963, Rauno Lehtinen composed an international hit 'Letkajenkka', which was named as 'Letkis' for short, the English speakers in mind: "Kyu Sakamoto - Letkis (Jenka)". in the same year, a Finnish band The Sounds recorded an instrumental rock version 'Mandschurian Beat' of a waltz 'On the Hills of Manchuria', which was composed in 1906 by a Russian composer Ilya Shatrov. The song gained popularity in Asia as a version recorded by an American band The Ventures: "さすらいのギター Manchurian Beat". In 1991, Finnish artist Kirka's song 'Surun pyyhit silmistäni' charted in Asia as a version sang by Annie Leung in Chinese: "梁雁翎 ANNIE LEUNG《像霧像雨又像風(國)》Official 官方完整版 [首播] [MV]". The song was a hit also E.g. in Greek. A Finnish pop music pioneer Danny was the third Western artist to perform in China in 1997. Here's Danny and Armi!: "Armi Ja Danny - Laserajassa 1978 (FINNISH TV SPECIAL)". He was allowed to perform there, unlike the likes of Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson and Madonna. In 1998, Nylon Beat's song 'Rakastuin mä looseriin'/'Like a Fool' turned in a K-pop version 'Dreams Come True' recorded by S.E.S.. The song has been covered several times since then: "S.E.S. 'Dreams Come True' MV". Here's one Finnish artist, who was manoeuvering in the UK music scene: "Jimi Tenor - Take Me Baby" and "Nicole Willis - If This Ain't Love". The early Finnish rock scene: "Jöröjukka rock", "Rock-Jerry & His Masters - Party", "The Creatures - Where Can She Be" and "Blues Section - Semi Circle Solitude (1968)".
