Glad you watched this. There is another fantastic guide that I highly recommend "A Guide to BTS Members: The Bangtan 7" by Taylor Mari. Boracity Magazine recently made this guide because she noticed people that are curious about them but seem to get intimidated by the longer video tho I will say Taylor's video is edited so well it feels much shorter but people don't realize that until after they watch it lol. There solo work is varied but so is their BTS discography as well. Their roots are in hip hop so many of their songs have messages and speak about their experiences. They do a wide variety of genres as a group and they have amazing b-side tracks on their albums. My first MV was Mic Drop feat. Steve Aoki which is very hip hop which got my attention but then I saw their Fake Love MV which hooked me completely, I thought the lyrics were deep for a title track. Other great MV's people often recommend is "ON Kinetic Manifesto" and "Black Swan". If you like older music I think you will enjoy V's newest songs "Winter Ahead (with Park Hyo Shin)" though I will say I wish I had watched the "Official (Cinematic Still Ver.) MV" first before watching the actual MV cuz I got a bit distracted at the eyrie mysteriousness of the visuals and couldn't focus on the song but that's me. And Bing Crosby x V of BTS "White Christmas". I think you will like Jungkook's "Standing Next to You" as well. RM's "Wildflower (with Youjeen)" is fantastic. Jimin's "Like Crazy" is also amazing it's the synth pop mentioned in the vid and it also has an English Version. J-Hope's song with J.Cole is "On the Street" and his song "Neuron" is also great. Jin's "Astronaut" was was co-written by Chris Martin of Coldplay. And I'm not sure if you like aggressive hip hop but Suga's song under Agust D "Haegum" is great but I really love his song "Amygdala" it's a very personal song.

Guide to BTS Bangtan 7 by Taylor Mari is the best. She'll do a part 2 when all their solo era "chapter 2" content is released while they are in the military era. It is long but worth it and ARMY like to rewatch it with you! She is a professional editor so you can watch it without having to worry about editing anything out. Also, BTS fans typically don't care if you pause. We prefer it, since it means you are watching. They have songs that go deep on so many levels they have explanation vids you'll want to watch. I grew up with a punk background and never in a billion years imagined being a fan of what people call a "kpop boy band." But then after I got to know them I realized they weren't any of that. These guys started as Hip Hop then added vocals and choreo of the Kpop world. They were shunned by both the Hip Hop world (who considered them sell-outs and falsely assumed they wouldn't be creating their own content) and the KPOP world (who considered them too free and non-conformists). Many Kpop bands now try to emulate the mix in rap and vocals but still over 95% don't write or produce their own stuff. I am OT7, meaning I support them all equally. I tend to be rapline bias, but vocal line are my wreckers. You sound like you would enjoy more vocals to start. I will give you some options, but won't bother me if you listen or not. Follow your own path and Do You. I first discovered them with Dynamite and that was not my thing (I do not like mindless uber pop) so I almost never got to know them. I even gave them a second chance with Butter, but again... nope. Not for me. I appreciate that a lot of people come to them through that, but their Eng songs were a rare occurrence during the pandemic when the songs were produced out of house (one was written by Ed Sheeren). Anyway... that is really not them. Thankfully about a year later, I stumbled on them again and decided to start at the beginning. Their first song was "No More Dream" and other than very cliche outdated outfits, the song was way different than Butter and Dynamite and the lyrics were meaningful and inspiring for youth. So I gave their next song a chance and down the rabbit hole I went and haven't come out yet. One of the coolest things about them is that even after this many years, you never know what to expect when they release something new. Ever. Since you recognized JCole, I'd say start with Born Singer. They did it shortly after they debuted back in 2013 on the beat of JCole's Born Sinner. The words give an indication of who they are. In 2022, just before going into military, when JHOPE was headlining Lollapalooza, he met JCole and within the year we had a Jhope/JCole Collab and Cole gave BTS permission to include Born Singer on their Anthology album. If it lets me post the link I'll include it below. But when in doubt, search up the song you want, followed by "Live Eng Subs" because, if you don't know yet, you will shortly, they are better live than their mv's and studio versions. Crazy but true. But when you do the MV's, if you play from the beginning and include the 'Big Hit' logo, they allow it. Also, they have MVs only for their title tracks mostly so if you need to watch a lyric video, better if you don't watch those color-coded lyric videos. They are rushed out for views and typically unapologetically wrong. Check out a channel called Dial6137. Also, if you don't mind reading lyrics, you will get the best translations and information from doolset. They are a Wordpress site of excellent resource. For lyrics: doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com For live Eng Subs videos: Enjoy BTS More BTS Born Singer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnaZaY2YoqmclaMsi=RBO392vipDhhp0jq This is the stage mix. An early performance juxtaposed with one a few years later... and then they even redid it again recently in 2022 of their Anthology where they sit and sing it. NO More Dream (their first mv here): kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHOqZn9titiIrqMsi=jQnOWlBggbGn37qU but you could follow that up in the same video with this newer "mature" version they did live. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWbRqn2afrloj9ksi=3F9crqLjlb7lX43N For Vocal Line auditory perfection, check out The Truth Untold (Live Eng Subs - stage mix so won't get taken down): kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2rckoNqrL-Sqqssi=VDLEPuQllvgU3xqt For Rapline intensity Outro:Tear (at Wembley): kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3XYkn19jspre7Msi=7ExCk0S_awiie7Tp You need to do Taylor's Guide before doing solos or much more. I'll leave you alone for now and come back with more later. Whatever you do, be honest and enjoy the journey. Even if you don't delve into BTS, I hope you include them occasionally in your journey. They are surprisingly worth it. Happy Holidays! Peace.

Genre-mix is the K-pop speciality - including rap since the very beginning - even if quiet a few rappers were only performers and did not write their stuff - one of the reasons why rappers actually going into Idol music got in trouble. "you are only a rapper because you can't sing". That said people like Zico and G-Dragon were very successfull with their rap and writting in/with their groups. The English songs were dropped at the hight of the pandemic to remind the global Army that life is fun and that we will come back to each other. I saw deaf kids being exited by Permission to Dance since the sign language of their gestures included them. The world suffered greatly no matter how much some countries are/were in denial of it. The other fact was also that BE (pandemic album) was not yet ready to drop - nor was it that much of a planed drop because after the tour of 2020 - that didn't happen - they were supposed to serve in the military - but the pandemic and a new law crafted to delay them did actually exactly that. The problem was that they do concept albums over years and their material for the group had run out for their coming of age story: school/hardship in society, youth under that hardship, growing up in literature under aspects of philosphy (Nietzsche) and psychology (Carl Jung), real "self love" and to "Love Yourself" you have to "Know Yourself" first (psychology). There was nothing to write for the group but they still had to represent SK to the world. So everything got a little jumbled and their solo experimentation got pushed back. These songs are good and respresent them as much as everything they do - even it may be more the vocalists that shine here. Apobangpo!

@@cboz6137 I think everything they drop represents them - some members more than others. especially the early stuff did little to represent the vocalline. That is okay. It became more balanced later, too. You don't like them and I do not think you have to. Personaly taste exists and is not wrong. But the English Pop songs are a facet of them, too, and they helped many people which is what they were supposed to do. 💜💜

I know it's overwhelming because they have such a HUGE discography. I think watching the guides mentioned are a good way to go, but if you're ready for some music before you do that.... Here are a few group MVs to check out. Some of their iconic songs from over the years: - Fake Love - Mic Drop - Black Swan - Not Today For individual member songs, I will give you a lil starter pack of two per member: - *jhope* : Arson and Boy Meets Evil - *Jin* : The Astronaut and Super Tuna (the recent one -- it is absolutely ridiculous) - *SUGA/Agust D* : Daechwita and Amygdala - *Jimin* : Who and Serendipity - *RM* : Persona and Come Back to Me - *V* : Fri(end)s and Singularity - *Jungkook* : Standing Next to You and Hate You Most of these are in Korean, so subtitles are a must.

I personally think band fits them. I know a lot of "skeptics" and "haters" will say they are not a band simply because they do not play instrument's (all the members play instrument's to varying degrees, RM is in the Army band right now as a saxophonist and the human voice is by all definition's an instrument!) but their performances and music at times focus more on choreography. RM said once that they use dance rather than instruments to convey emotion. The way I learned to memorize their names was with a cheat sheet. I found a group picture and wrote everyone's name above each member. 7 may seem like a lot at 1st, but the more you come to know them the less surprising it becomes and the more it makes sense. Something else I've experienced with ONLY BTS, I've never gotten bored, annoyed, fed up, ect. with their music. I can literally put on any of their music and just let it play, without skipping any songs. Even if I've heard the song a million times it always seems new and fresh to me yet somehow still very known, comforting and familiar. Don't know if that makes sense but like I said, never experienced that before with any music I've listened to and I tend to be pretty picky with my music.💜

As a beginner, I suggest these 3 MV's that will show you their diversity. Mic Drop (Steve Aoki remix), ON (Kinetic Manifesto Film), and Black Swan. Always remember to put the subtitles on as their songs are in Korean with a few English words here and there. Their lyrics are important with BTS because they tell a story or send a message. It can sometimes be challenging to read subtitles and watch their MV's at the same time so some reactors will first watch the MV without the subtitles and then watch it a second time with subtitles. Their MV's are cinematic and sometimes fast paced. It's just a thought. Maybe you can absorb and process at the same time. If you're into choreography, there's a dance practice for each MV which allows you to see how they would perform the song live. A lot of the choreography gets cut out of MV's. I just subscribed as I hope you will continue your BTS journey. 💜 Sorry for the lengthy comment.

The long and helpful guide (2hours plus) was what I watched and yes it’s long but so good and most current I think. It seems like army loves to watch them also and don’t mind the pauses. Pausing (for me) means that you’re invested and want to make sure you catch everything which I think is why army likes the pauses. I found BTS in march through jungkook whilst going through radiotherapy. Jungkook was who I found first with his remix with usher and then that led me to BTS (he’s my bias for this reason but love all 7).They say BTS find you when you need them the most and in my experience that couldn’t be more true x

So pleased to have been recommended your videos. I am a 52 year old ARMY from UK since Sept 2020. I was highly skeptical of their music at first but the more you dive into the rabbit hole the more you appreciate them as artists and as human beings. Their friendship is true, and believe me, the media dig for dirt constantly. For introduction guides Taylor Mari's Guide to the Bangtan 7 is really good but I also like Rice Squad's The Most Beautiful Moment in Life. Don't worry about rushing to learn their names, you will apart recognising them from their shadows or a cough or a glimpse of their pinky finger soon enough 😂 The best way forward depends on your character. You can go chronologically, start at the debut. Or ARMY can suggest a variety of songs to showcase their diversity, or tell us the music you like and we can suggest songs that suit your preference first. A few things to mention. There first few videos on the Hybe Labels channel do not have English subs. The official Eng subs versions are on the channel 1theK. Lyrics are really important to BTS. I know people say you can feel a song, the music speaks to you but BTS hide difficult subjects amongst happy cheerful sounding songs and vice versa. One of the most sensual sounding songs, Singularity by V, is actually really deep and sad. Never use auto-generated subs, they never work. Always search a song with Eng subs in the search. There are many channels like Enjoy BTS More who add accurate lyrics to their videos, or colour coded lyric videos are useful. Don't be daunted by the quantity of material, just enjoy the ride and get ready for some philosophy lessons. Most of all enjoy it at your own pace. We tend to get really excited with new reactors and you will be bombarded with suggestions. You do not have to react to everything at once! To start at the beginning their first MV was No More Dream. To get a feel for their diversity I recommend BTS Festa Room Live 2021. They are even more amazing live than in studio! Welcome to BTS and ARMY 💜

You have no idea how much. It's SOOOOO Much. BTS are the biggest musical artists in the world, hands down. They now have well over 1500 awards, making them the most awarded artists in global history, though the western music industry won't acknowledge that. They regularly top charts in over 100 countries, their music transcending language and culture with its deep, relatable and universal messaging on important issues. They have 20 albums as a group and 15 albums as soloists....so far! Plus they have many more collabs, singles, covers, remixes and OSTs, for a discography that is many hundreds of songs deep. But they also have a TON of video content, from concert films and tour documentaries, to album making documentaries, travel shows, a street dance documentary series by j-hope, variety shows, an interview show hosted by Suga, behind the scenes and candid footage, many thousands of hours of livestreaming and vlogging, many, many interviews and other appearances. V even acted in a KDrama series called Hwarang. These guys NEVER STOP WORKING. Honestly, the hardest working artists in the business. Plus they are all genuinely sweet, humble, honest, kind people who are utterly dedicated to their BTS brothers and to ARMY, the fandom. I have their whole discography, including solos, collabs and other music, listed in a document and I can post it here if you want. It has all the album released in chronological order, which is one way to explore their work. Some people like to just work through the MV releases, but that misses the MASSIVE component of their live performance genius. BTS are among those very rare artists who are even better live than in their recordings. Live performances also feature more choreography, often different mixes on the songs and sometimes amazing dance breaks as well. One way to get around that is to do paired reactions in one video of an MV release and a live performance or dance practice of the same release, or all three: MV, live & dance practice. Just looking at MVs also skips a lot of their best work. Their B-Sides are amazing as well. Some people like to start with their most recent work and go backwards. Some like to start at the beginning, in 2013, or even before that with their pre-debut releases, and move forwards. Some like to do whole album listen throughs before jumping into visuals and performances, particularly if lyrical analysis is important to them. Some just jump around randomly, though I think that gets confusing. Every album they do, as a group or solo, is a concept album, and many are linked on themes and in sets called eras. With their deep lyricism and self-referential callbacks in lyrics and visuals, I think you get more out of their work if you watch it from the beginning to the present. Every era is based on their own life stages and personal growth and every album is filled with their own deeply personal stories, often disguised with universally relatable messaging at a surface level. I recommend you watch the Guide to the Bangtan 7 by Taylor Mari. It's getting a little out of date now, but it is exceptionally well done and really helps you get to know the guys better individually and it includes snippets of songs with the titles in the top left corner and you should get some things from that which you want to react to and could be a place to start, unless you want to go chronologically. By the way, in that guide you will hear the guys refer to their ages incorrectly. They are using Korean Age, which was an age counting system in S Korea where you were considered 1 year old at birth and another year older at the new year. So even if you were born at the end of December, like V, you would be 2 years old at the new year. S Korea recently discontinued this age counting system in favor of normal age counting to bring them in line with the rest of the world, but the clips in the Taylor guide the guys are referring to themselves by Korean Age. So, for instance, Jungkook says he joined the group and moved into their dorm apartment as a 15 year old, but he was actually 13 and still in middle school. Do let me know if you want that chronological discography breakdown.

As much as we ARMY love to say we and BTS are not kpop, we do keep a lot of those kpop preconceived notions, for example the whole concepts of a bias (favorite member) that some take too far and support the given member more than the others. Everyone keeps asking new fans immediately (even before they can remember all the names) who their bias is but (shockingly) you don't need to have a bias... You can love one member's voice but prefer the discography of the other one. You can relate and connect to one member on the personal level but like watching the other one because he makes you laugh. You can find one member physically attractive but find yourself to be pulled by another member more while looking at them performing. Seriously, stop limiting yourself by setting on a bias everyone. One of the reasons why BTS became so big is that they are very different from each other but each one complements the team so well. You can really love and enjoy all those amazing, multitalented, humble men on the same level, just for different reasons. Why settle on just a one dish when you have a smorgasbord in front of you?

It's a huge rabbit hole, and I fell in to it a bit more than a year ago. I was introduced by hearing Jungkooks 'Standing next to you' on the radio in November 2023, and was immediately hooked! I fell hard and signed on to Weverse with a full membership and saw Jungkook live in his already legendary and only live appearance in 2024 with over 20 million live viewer's. Anyway, now an ARMY and loving them as BTS and for their solo endeavours. Borahae 🎵💜

Thank you for reacting to this video & learning about the members! They are some of the most talented, giving & humble group of people you will ever have the pleasure of knowing! I also agree that Taylor Mari’s guide to the Bangtan 7. I am 57 year old ARMY from the Midwest US & I became ARMY because of Jin’s song Epiphany which is one of the songs in the Love Yourself album series. JHope did do a collab with JCole in 2023 called On the Street which was his goodbye song to ARMY before entering the military. He was discharged in Oct 2024 & Jin was discharged in June. The other 5 members will be discharged in June 2025. Looking forward to watching your journey with BTS 💜

Thank you for reacting to BTS, this guide is a great first dip into who BTS are as a group and individuals. It seems like you tend to prefer the singers overall? If so, I'll recommend The Truth Untold, Blue and Grey, and Zero O'Clock for some vocal line heavy songs from BTS. BTS Festa Room Live 2021 is a great medley of some of their b-sides and features the whole group in live performance (there is no audience but all the vocals are live).

Dynamite was my introduction as well! 😊💜 It will always have a special place in my heart. Don't let their catalog of songs overwhelm you. It is a lot, but take your time and enjoy the ride! This is a great group and I think you will enjoy learning about them. One thing to mention, even though RM, V, Jimin, and JK (Jungkook) enlisted just over a year ago, and each of them released a solo album before enlisting, you will find each of them also released songs or albums after that point as well. They recorded everything that has been released before they enlisted, then left it up to their management company to release their work and promote it for them because, being on active duty, they cannot do any promotions. For instance, about six (?) months ago, Jimin released an album and appeared on The Tonight Show and performed one of his songs. That appearance and performance was pre-recorded before he enlisted, then held until the album was released. From my understanding, BTS is the first group to do this to the extent that they have. J-Hope did similar before he finished his enlistment. So some mvs may not have the BTS member in it if they didn't get a chance to record it before enlistment. We believe that's why RM is an anime character in Neva Play, a song by Megan Thee Stallion. So don't let timing of releases confuse you. Welcome to the rabbit hole! 😊💜🫰

For solos, you should start with Jungkook "Standing Next to You" (there's also an amazing collab video with Usher), Jimin's "Who" which has been in the Hot 100 for months now, Jin's "The Astronaut" written with Coldplay, and V's "Love Me Again" a warm R&B track filmed in a Spanish cave!

I'm glad you watched this and I'm super glad you came up on my algorithm! There is so much context associated with BTS, including official music videos, live versions a ton of their songs, dance practices for most songs so that you can see the uninterrupted choreo designed for each song, multiple seasons of game shows that were curated for them, informational videos created by fans. Between group and solo projects, there are over 500 songs. I really recommend watching one of their solo MVs for each member to match faces with sounds. As for group songs, just my personal advice is to keep away from the slower songs until later because they tend to be hugely meaningful to Army. Apart from that, be upfront about what interests you and Army will be happy to guide you. We can be a lot, so just relax. One but of feedback... We're here to watch your journey. No need to apologize for anything technical or for how you do things. We're here for it.

These probably won't be the number 1 recommendations but SO good. It's a perfect idea to start with solos, it'll help you recognize them within the group later. V: Stigma live, has to be the live Jimin: Set Me Free pt2 Jin: Running Wild or Astronaut JK: Standing Next to You J-Hope: Neuron, not the MV but the visualizer Suga: Daechwita (it's just necessary and it's the first of a trilogy anyway) RM: Groin or Nuts Happy hunting 💜🇨🇦 Ps of the intro videos my favorite remains the one by Suga n Spice, it gives the best sense of the vibe between the guys.

At the end, BTS sings “Our best moment is YET TO COME”! This was one of the last songs they sung together before JIN, the eldest, & JHope 3rd oldest, enlisted. These two were released a few months ago. The remaining 5 will complete their duties in June & July and they will come back together and perform as the group. So ARMY is waiting with bated breath for their return and they WILL fulfill their statement “OUR BEST IS YET TO COME”! There is no easy place to start other than what I suggested in my first comment. If you want to start with their solo work. Their newest albums would probably be the best place. RM just put out an album last year called Indigo the song to listen to first would be "Wild Flower". Jin's new album is called Happy "Running Wild" is his new mv. J-Hope put out an album before he went into the military called Jack In the Box his title mv was "More". Suga put out D2 to go with his concerts in 2023 he had several songs he released but Amygdala was my favorite mv. Jimin's latest album was MUSE and he did a video performance of 'Rebirth' and 'Slow Dance' it was beautiful, his mv for that album was "WHO". V put out an album called Layover which had 5 mvs for the 5 songs in the album, my favorite was 'For Us" but any of the 5 are great. Jungkook had 3 mvs for his album Golden, my favorite mv was Standing Next to You.

I agree with the others about watching Taylor Mari's A Guide to BTS. Don't worry about the length because it is very informative about the first chapter of BTS, although be prepared to read as there is not a voiceover. But much has happened since their pause on group activities because there was no pause on solo content. At asian award shows, they will be most often called Bangtan Sonyeondan but some presenters do call them BTS. Even the members will use both interchangeably. I would encourage you to listen to some of their debut music, No More Dreams and We are Bulletproof pt 1. In doing so, I think that there can be even more appreciation about where they have come from.
