I've seen the Oseberg ship up close. It's pretty insane.

Yes, the Okneys and Shetland were parts of Norway until the mid to late 1400s; The Western Isles (Lewis and Harris [one island, of course, but both names are Norse in Ogifin], Skye and a few others] were part of Norway until the 13th Century. The northermost counry of mainland Scotland is called Sutherland - Southern land - for a reason; Caithness has a Nordic cross in its flag); Jura takes it name from Old Norse Djur - animals/deers; Isle of man was a Norse kingdom for a while too, as the name Tynwald attests (Thing = Norse parliament], variants in Scotland includes Thingwall, Tinwall and Dingwall. For starters.

growing up in an area that was heavily ( for its time) populated during the viking age, just a few miles away form several viking burial sights ( Oseberg being the closest to me), we learned quite a bit in school about that time period in school. Often going to " Oseberghaugen", the place where they found the Oseberg ship, as a school outing. In my town ( Tønsberg, or Tunsberg as it was called then), longships are still being buildt as they were in ancient times, and it is very impressive to watch.

Det er faktisk et par mindre i Mjøsa også. Jeg bodde på Helgøya en stund. Første gangen jeg satt på verandaen og så dem komme ned fra Lillehammer skjønte jeg ingenting. :D And for the English speaking people out there...well. :)

We have bad experience with unions, so no EU for us please. We want to govern ourselves and not be dominated by Brussels and EU. Norway shall NEVER become a member of EU!

Love Scotland! I on a road trip along the west coast 20 years ago and felt so welcome as a Norwegian. Also, maybe check out how the Norse language blended with English? kzbin.info/www/bejne/jprQhnqIjZ1kjJosi=VNi32bq2OrNT74R0
