Nice reaction! This is by far my favorite BABYMETAL song, and it was through this that I discovered the band (through the original MV from 2013).

Yes. A Megitsune is a female fox. The Fox is extremely prevalent in BabyMetal lore. You'll see fox imagery everywhere. You saw the fans hold up the Fox sign with their hands while chanting and Momo and Moa held it up at the beginning of the song where they made their fox signs kiss.

Nice one, thanks! "Megitsune" is one of their most loved songs and their most played live one: 382 times... and counting! It was released in June 2013 being one of their biggest hits. And yes, it's one of my very TOP favorite songs. The style sub-genre is electronicore, a mix between electronica and metalcore with a hardcore style breakdown. The melody used in the breakdown is from a well known Japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" (Cherry Blossoms). About the lyrics, the word "megitsune" is composed by "me" + "kitsune" meaning female + fox so, vixen. In Japanese folklore, the "kitsune" is an entity capable to transfigure into a human form (mainly into a young lady) with the objective to deceive men and cause them pain. So, they sing that they aren't "kitsunes" but "megitsunes", "pure-hearted maiden-like female foxes", as the lyrics say. It's basically a women empowerment song. BABYMETAL fans are known collectively as "The ONE" and "kitsune" / "megitsune" individually. The hand sign (fox sign) they do all the time appeared when they were taught about the metal (devil or Dio's) horns and they ended up doing the fox sign like in a shadow play. Obviously they adopted it as own and they are happy when crowds put their "kitsunes" up during concerts. 🤘🦊

Excellent and thanks for listening to suggestions. In the Japanese Shinto religion the Fox Spirit (Kitsune means Fox) is a messenger spirit of the major deity Inari. They are shape shifters who can be tricksters and deceiving. Megitsune means female fox (hence the lyrics of women being foxes yet not deceiving even though they may be seen as such by the traditional male dominated history of Japan). The story behind the Fox with BABYMETAL supposedly came completely by accident. When trying to mimic the Metal hand gesture the young girls had trouble and kept making the sign of a Fox popular in childrens shadow play. Kobe Kobiyashi (their producer and the man behind the concept of BABYMETAL and is a whole story for another day when you may finally decide to watch "The not so Extensive Guide To BABYMETAL" by A Fox Song channel). decided to use that as the basis of Lore surrounding BABYMETAL and "The Fox God" was born. In fact you may be ready for this as a reaction so I suggest the Guide above as a next step in your journey.

Good reaction. 'Megitsune' is one of their older songs, released in 2013 and the first song after they separated from their parent group to become an independent band, it has regularly topped fan polls for favourite song - they have also played it live more than any of their songs. It reflects a lot of the Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen) in the intro and the lyrics about women being mistaken for or likened to foxes (kitsune - which also explains the fox mask Su was behind in the breakdown🦊) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not deceptive shape-shifting kitsune (foxes), they are pure hearted human megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The intro before the song and the breakdown in the middle of the song uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su spoke a few words and did a high kick she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.

A pass on Megitsune? Wowsers, you surprised me with that one. I though you liked their older stuff.
@Filboid200023 күн бұрын
@Ryujin170 I do when it IS the older stuff - that is to say, it involves the original line-up. Although I'll probably get grief for saying this, I am of the opinion that this version is BABYMETAL doing a cover of BABYMETAL, and any time a reacter reacts to a "Yui Era" song, it should include Yui. However, I would venture to say that there are probably a dozen or so versions of this song alone on KZbin, so most reacters are in position of "eenie, meenie, miney, moe". Furthermore, most reacters probably haven't got a clue of which songs are "Yui Era" songs anyway. I use the comment "Pass" to show a little support for the reacter and improve their standing with the algorithm even if it is just a tiny bit although I'm not at all interested in the content. In this case, I think DV should have taken in the official music video first, and then followed it up with either the "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" version or the "Budokan Black Night (2014)" version. Aside from all of that, I am not at all impressed with the editing of BABYMETAL's latest live videos: it is as if they took the film from a dozen different cameras, threw them in a blender then spliced together whatever came out. But thanks for noticing. 🙂 🤘🦊🤘

@@Filboid2000 I won't give you grief, I don't care if people dont like things I like, I'm just curious about the reason. But only mainly because it's Momo instead of Yui? I would agree that Momo shouldn't sing old Black Babymetal songs, as they were written for Yui, and I don't think she would want to anyway. But someone has to perform Babymetal songs as they were written for the group. At least Momo's not imitating Yui herself. Same with the kamis, I wouldn't want to see anyone trying to act like Boh or Mikio.
@Filboid200022 күн бұрын
@Ryujin170 I have no problem with Momo doing "Yui Era" songs (aside from Black BABYMETAL - as you pointed out, that is "sacred ground"). What I'm saying is that a reacter should take in the original group version(s) before delving into recent performances of any "Yui Era" song - the song may be the same but the performance is very different. And I agree that it's good that Momo is bringing her own style to the table - I'm sure she's well aware that no one can replace Yui Mizuno, only succeed her. The bottom line is that I think reacters, after getting their first taste of BABYMETAL, should go back to the beginning and move forward. BABYMETAL has only four studio albums and roughly 60 songs - it's the number of versions which can be problematic. That's why I post a link to a KZbin playlist "BABYMETAL Top Twenty" so that the reacter can get a running start with BABYMETAL without having to guess at what version of what song to react to (at least for twenty songs). Perhaps another tack a reacter could take regarding "Yui Era" songs: react to three versions - original music video (if there is one), an accredited live version (avoiding compilation videos!), and a post-Yui version. 🤘🦊🤘

@@Filboid2000 The more versions of songs at the same time the better when it comes to reactions AFAIK. Though when reactors go on a journey into the fox hole, it's inevitable they are going to get a mix of Yui, Avengers and Momo era songs and performances. It took me a while to tell Moa and Yui apart and remember all their names. If someone is a proper fan they will eventualy consume everything Babymetal. If they can't be bothered to dig deeper or trail off, they were always casuals or distant admirers anyway, so they probably wouldn't care about the difference in the first place. Most new reactors just want to be surprised and entertained more than anything. To me the randomness of the selections adds to that. That's why a lot of reactors trail off Lovebites after about 4 or 5 songs or even less. Lovebites are great players, have great energy, and wow reactors on the first few reactions, but they are not surprising or original in gereral.
