Man, your analysis of this song has made me hear new things and appreciate the musicality of this song even more than I did before. The way you talk about hearing the person behind the instrument and their immense level of talent was beautiful. And also the way you saw it as a positive thing when their riff brought you back to one you recognized from a band you love was refreshing, rather than letting that turn you off, it made you feel good. Also love the line "don't hear what I'm not saying". I need to remember that. 😅

"World domination doesn't happen in a week" Well said, and I'm sure the ladies are aware of that as well, since they answer to that in the song with the filler-sounding lyric line 'Dan! Dan! Di, di, dan! Dan!' which actually translates to 'little by little'. :) I am so grateful and happy for them that they can finally get out there again and do what they obviously love and what you mentioned. Playing in front of an audience. This also increases the chances that I might be able to see them live in person sometime in the future. And should this result in them becoming the big and famous band that we all want them to be, I will surely be one of the first to celebrate. But until then and after almost 3 years of knowing them, I'm happy that I found this band, and I'm looking forward to every new release because I know it's going to be good. I still have the premiere chat open here right now and see the comment from 80mtn: "Thanks Chase. Your reactions are like Band-Maid songs. You can't get a bad one!" I can only agree with that! As always, it was a pleasure to listen to your thoughts on this song and the band in general. So, Thank You for that and for the continuous support of Band-Maid. They haven't played anywhere in front of an audience since February 2020. They are playing some festivals and a few shows in August and September in Japan, and then a US tour in October. Next year will be their 10th anniversary, so everyone is expecting their largest (world) tour ever.
@perrinklumpp46642 жыл бұрын
One of the aspects of Band Maid that I love the most is that while you can still hear the Band Maid "sound", it never sounds like a rehashed version of something old. They always manage to bring something new and wonderful to their songs. They have updated Battle Armor (what I've read they call their outfits) for the coming US tour. I have a suspicion that this may be the opening song as it represents a triumph over the darkness that was preventing them from coming together and playing, and of their unleashing (new EP and tour).

While Japan is an economically powerful, and influential nation, the Japanese language is only spoken in Japan. Band Maid’s has become my favorite band, despite the language barrier. That said, “Unleash” is a super catchy song and the video, with the anime maids, is a lot of fun. This song could be the “hit song” that has been elusive. Anyway, a great review as always.
@bigdambluesband62952 жыл бұрын
Actually I prefer the language barrier as the vocals are just another musical instrument and I really can't understand a lot of the lyrics to hard rock music anyway. The ones you can understand are stupid, another silly love song. Love is a just a lie told to make you blue, so quit singing about it. Or sing it in Japanese so I can't understand it.

You have again managed to make me enjoy a song by my favorite band even more. Which is really impressive and I am grateful for it. If you need some Band-Maid between this and the next new song, I recommend Daydreaming music video or the No God live performance from their official channel. Daydreaming has one of my favorite guitar solos of all time that. It initially feels just a bit jarring and out of place, but by the end of it feels like an amazingly appropriate and emotionally impactful solo. No God is like a Misa Bass showcase. Thanks again. But every one of them grows to be just as memorable. I think they WOULD have blown up, had COVID not derailed them, and everyone for two years. Speaking of reviews, Wave Potter did an interesting breakdown of the meaning to the song and video on his channel. Cheers!

As they get more comfortable with writing technical songs, they inevitably lose some accessibility and become less approachable as a result. The Sense EP, for example, took a bit longer for me to settle into. A song like Sense is not easy to listen to at times. But I think this song hits different. It took me way less time to love it. It feels like a return to some of the approachability of their older songs while maintaining the level of musicianship they’ve been demonstrating in recent outings. (Save for Kinami’s guitar tone; instead of going for a familiar sound, she went ham on her pedals and used ALL the effects 😂). It’ll be interesting to see how they marry their evolving abilities with the hooks and catchiness that they’re known for.
@cembor2 жыл бұрын
Great observations as always Chase. This song has taken me a few listens to latch on to and truth be told this time is the first that I actually got chills when the chorus first hit. I'll admit that Kanami's guitar tone in parts of this are not my preferred sound from her but I'm starting to realize that the songs she uses that tone on she's using it to create a sense of (what I believe) tension within the song and the story being told by the song. MISA, as always, just absolutely slaying it and hearing that GOD TIER growl from her bass makes me smile every time. I think you need to spend a viewing going through the visuals of the video as well. There are many many many Easter eggs and specific call outs layered throughout the whole thing. Also to mention is the overall theme of the song/video as well. Unleash!!!!! This is their sequel to Domination (and I believe about Us as well). This is the band announcing their return to live performances and breaking through the cloud of the pandemic, flying their flag, and announcing to the world that they are coming. Cheers and thanks for your continued great work.

BAND-MAID is one of those cases in which i fight with myself. My mind keeps telling me that i can't take them seriously, sort of walling me from liking it. Then my mind wonder and in a moment I find myself headbanging, tapping with hands and feet.. they're good and my mind struggle to accept it :) It's the same reaction I had with hypa hypa! I couldn't accept to like it, now I scream and headbang like crazy!

It's been a minute since you've done a Band-Maid reaction. I believe the last one was Warning!, so yeah, over a year. Looking forward to this one.....

He did “Catharsis” acoustic, and I’m still bugging him for “Sayonakidori” acoustic.

Thanks again for sharing your observations and experience. There are plenty of folks just learning about this band and you've been doing an awesome job to help people learn and appreciate things about this band that many tend to miss. Sidenote: I think you should check out another Japanese band called Sokoninaru as they're an amazingly talented and creative trio. A great start to them is the song re:program: kzbin.info/www/bejne/boCwZmt3p8qchKs

This one, for me, is similar to Different in that my brain couldn't process fast enough to enjoy it fully but the more I listen to it the better it gets. Thanks for always spreading MAID ❤💙to you viewers, Chase.☮

It's not "Non-Fiction Days". I first got into them a few years ago, after World Domination and I still think that and Just Bring It are their best albums. I remember thinking to myself that these girls have set the bar awfully high for themselves. Don't know if they've made it over it yet but the central idea of Band-Maid is not to copy anybody else and certainly not to copy themselves so they keep stretching the boundaries. I don't think that their last two albums are quite as "musical" as earlier material but not talking about softer music (which they can do excellently when they want to) but stuff like nonfiction days and don't you tell me and just all my favorites from the 2015-2019 era. But it's all a matter of taste of course.

I just noticed Saike is the first one out of the gate. I don't recall her ever doing that before.

4:29. Every body that I’ve watch react to this missed the “Thrill” reference with the blank white room, the lights, cords, etc. That is if that’s what they were doing.

Also, earlier when they showed Kanami’s character in the studio. That reminded me of their “Alone” music video as well as “Bubble” with the studio setting

When I hear this song I hear elements of Akira Takasaki's soundtrack for Geneshaft. And it made me listen to the soundtrack again. If you get the chance try and give his music a listen.

Chase - please react to The Warning. Their new album Error is phenomenal. They have some live studio versions that are generally not blocked. They and Band Maid are my favorite bands! You will get excited by them.
