As a child of the 60's growing up in the 70's with my local radio station (K-SHE 94.7 St. Louis, MO) playing all the long tracks, and even album sides, even during the day and sometimes even during the lunch time, time slot. I loved hearing those 8-18 minutes songs. I remember hearing the full A side of RUSH's 2112 as I rode the school bus home. The driver had a little portable radio, and I would sit behind him, so I could listen to KSHE on the 30 minutes ride home. Then I would run from the bus stop, to get home trying to get in the door to turn on the stereo before "That cool song ended". Many have said it, that Band-Maid is a Progressive Hard Rock band, and I agree. I just wish the record company would let them record some really tasty longer tracks. Yes those types of tracks aren't as "Commercial" for radio play, but I think these Ladies can deliver. And I for one, want to hear them.

This is great Wave!! I was at their Summer Sonic show today, and this is what I saw guitar-wise. Start of the song: Miku did the chugging (Kanami rests) 1st Pre-chorus part (0-3-5-6 part as you define) : Also Miku only (Kanami rests) I remember it clearly because It was so impressive that Miku played that part, and she played that 0-3-5-6 part in drop D power chords (R,5), and both guitars were in Drop D. I also found out that the key change and the accented lyrics diving into the chorus is extremely difficult (even for Saiki) to execute live.

Nice! I had to go through all the hoops to get to Japan including wearing a mask for most of the duration of the flight other than eating or using the toilet. I get there thinking I have a shot to see the show in Osaka only to find out there is a surge in covid, the sauna like heat daily, and the show being sold-out. As a consolation, I was able to get some Band-Maid and Cluppo CDs/Blu-rays that had to be ordered at a local store.

Great work Wave!👍 I started to listening to pop and rock music in 1970 when I was 4 years old. I discovered my mothers small record collection with only 7" singles. The Beatles captured my mind the most. Later on in around 1972 it was Slade, then The Sweet and then in late 1975 a trip of 2 decades of KISS fandom, then Blind Guardian....and since February 2019 it's Band-Maid stardom. I put them on top of everything exept Buckethead. They're that good😇👍🤘

Thanks, Wave! As a music appreciator (as opposed to a music theorist), it's always nice to get a glimpse into WHY some of these choices hit home. I also like the fact that Band-Maid is always trying something out. Maybe we don't like it, or maybe we don't like it immediately, but at least they are testing out new material or techniques.

I really love the "OOOWWW"s. I thought I watched a lot of BAND-MAID reactions, holy buckets! Your analysis and explanations of the different scales and modes Kanami uses, plus in-depth drum and bass analysis, make you a top-tier reactor. Great that you included lots of other reactors from the BAND-MAID community. You even threw in a Sex Bob-Omb reference. Awesome! PS: when you said "fan service", for a split second, I was like "did I miss something?", you used the term correctly but I'm from the anime community where that term carries a sexual connotation

Another Band Maid song that I will be hearing things for the first time a year after it's release. Leaning more towards hard rock and metal the first thing that grabbed me was the heavy riff after the first verse but then ... in true Band Maid style, the riff after the second verse before the first chorus was even more metal and caught me off guard. By now I had this huge smile on my face and I realised this song is the one I have been waiting for. So many elements yet to discover, well I'll be Dan Dan Di Di Dan Dan !!

Great job as always, Wave! This song has taken by far the longest for me to settle on how I feel about it. "Different" took a couple days, this one took about 10 haha. For me Saiki is the star of this song and I don't know if I've ever said that about one of their fast/heavy songs. Amazing! I love the heavy guitar riffs, the way the song explodes into new sections, and I think this is their catchiest song since, I dunno, "Hide and Seek?" The little things they add, like the vocals you mentioned at 15:25 are perfect, as always, adding exactly what's needed exactly where it's needed. Now for what I don't like...Stop reading now if you don't like critical comments, though overall I do like the song and live I liked it a lot more. I like the song but I think it's let down by its production or mixing...or whatever, robbing many of its most climactic moments of their impact. (Time for all the Beato "compression" memes!) Hearing it live for the first time today has reinforced that thought. The song sounds worst here on KZbin. It sounds noticeably better even on Spotify basic streaming. I'm with you and Ryan on the guitar tone. I'm not a fan of the similar tone in "Screaming" either. And you nailed it with Akane being comparatively restrained. (Speaking of which, have you heard the Summer Sonic performance yet? They did the instrumental "From Now On" and Akane is a star. Highly recommend you listen to it before Gaijin Guys; you know what website you can find it on.) I also feel that the last 20-25 seconds seem added to extend the song to over 3 minutes. It's so weird to hear Band-Maid just repeat a section in a song like this that it actually caught me off guard by not catching me off guard. Anyway loved your insights and how much care you put into these videos.

I'd like Kanami to split off the pitch-shifted output, EQ it, then blend it back in with her regular tone. Not only do I suspect it would sound better, it would actually be more unique. Heavily-effected insyruments tend to have an "off-the-shelf" sound. Of course, she might already be doing it that way and it's just the sound she likes 🤷
@ThouDailyBlab
@ThouDailyBlab 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Wave. I learned a lot here, much appreciate. Yeah, i'd like the regular heavy guitar sound too, but Kanami makes it more interesting by changing up the sound. Stops all the songs sounding a bit 'samey'. I'm sure she's watching the reactor videos to see what people this about this subject :)

OK, I'm showing my age here, but the last time I remember a band that produced this much great music as regularly as Band-Maid does, was back in '64 when four guys from Liverpool were doing it.

I can play some bass with "no rules"... but obviousIy the sounds would be disturbing for everyone... hhe... i was have a band & play as bassist... but as amateurs for sure, i can recognized if a band have a great bassist mostly the Band will be Great as like their bassist... You can see how exhausted they look, in parts of the Domination live video (song 22 of 23, for that show), so I'm thinking they're near their limit, for how long a set can be. I don't envy them, having to whittle down a setlist, from their massive catalog.

I'd be interested in a similar breakdown of Sokoninaru's new song "Saitei" if you ever felt inclined to do one. Though, you definitely wouldn't be able to include a similar montage of reactors at the outset. Lol

After watching the Summer Sonic performance... I think you're theory about Miku being in drop D and Kanami being standard is not correct. Because in the live performance, Kanami plays the "chugging" and Miku is not playing at all during the second pre-chorus. I think they're both in Drop D. Also.... If you could tell me the notes of the "clean guitar" part at the end of the first pre-chorus - that would be VERY helpful. Because I am having difficulty with that part in the MIDI. 🙂

Yeah I talked about that in my reaction and livestream today! They subverted my expectations on that one! The notes are F#/A# G/B and A\C# and the 2nd note is an octave higher!

What a great video! Thanks for putting it together and of course to everyone you see in the video. It's always a great pleasure to see that so many people out there appreciate the work of the ladies as much as I, or we Maidiacs do. 🙏🏻 And it's no less great that the number of them is increasing. :) _____________________ 「 _'Our rock never dies ever. Love the analysis, Wave. Count me among those that don't care for the harmonizer pedal. I was thrilled watching the SummerSonic footage that the sound gets totally buried in the mix, and as I suspected, the song is much better for it. I do really like the song otherwise.

I have just watched BAND-MAID's performance at the SUMMER SONIC 2022. I so funny how Kanami was quite serious in the first couple of songs then, she began to be crazier after each song until she started to be totally out of control during (and after 🕊👁😆) "Domination". I was very surprised that "Unleash!!!!!" main guitar riff was played by the backing track 🤔 My two favorite performances were "After Life" and "Domination". The new instrumental "from now on" was very good, especially the start of the song which was also used to promote BAND-MAID's US tour. But I still prefer "Without Holding Back" and "onset". And yes, Saiki's volume was too low and she quickly showed it to the technicians during the second song "SENSE". Also, Miku's microphone volume was way too high. Kanami's guitar was sometimes low, other times perfect like in most of the solo sections. And as always, nothing to add for MISA and Akane because it's always perfect 🤷🏻‍♂

In today's Sumer Sonic show Miku's mic was too high, in some part the backing vocals were higher than Saiki and maybe they don't seem all that confortable as other times. Akane, Misa and Kanami on point. Not the best performance in my opinion but after the pandemic they are returning to the stage and can only improve from here.

Yeah that’s all venue issues from the rushed atmosphere of the festival setting unfortunately. Kinda out of their control. It seemed like they were having monitor issues for the vocals the whole time. But they still put on a killer show!

I loved that Miku’s mic was so loud. Her guitar was as well! Wasn’t great for the overall sound, but it really lets you hear clearly how much Miku is doing. She is doing A LOT! Also I stand by my opinion that they may need to bring a couple of songs lower for their concerts. It is overall too high for Saiki. She’s a great and powerful vocalist, but Kanami has written too many songs beyond her comfortable range, and the ladies have discussed as such in their interviews.

Her voice it's not suitable for the Band Maid songs except those was made for her specifically. This is not a contentius topic, she was who decide her voice was not enough at the beggining of the band. Despite of those fans of one artist who think that person is perfect in every way the rationality is this: without every member in their place there is no Band Maid, Miku can't replace Saiki or Kanami and that's the reason for Cluppo, a band tailor made for Miku and very different in style.

"They look sooo cute in Anime Style!" Um? Wasn't that the whole point of the Maid Café outfits from the get go? The Maidiacs know the story: the cute maid outfits are more "The Cheesecake Factory" than "Cheesecake". I'll admit that I had to get past the maid costumes before I watched one of their fantastic videos. But they are right: I would watch that series!

This is the thing I don't come to You Tube to watch. To much back slapping, mutual butt kissing and circle jerking. That goes on, on here. Sorry I'm not one that thinks the more chaotic or harder sounding. Makes for a good/perfect song. To much concentration by them as of late with this kind of sound to me. It has become to repetitive over the last year or so. And I'm tired of the Anime tie in. Just give me a rock song on its own. And it was hilarious to see the bald-headed metal guy. And a few of the other reactors on here. Some of which who trashed them ( especially the bald-headed metal guy viciously when it came to their costumes ) right from the beginning. Are now riding the populatity of the Band Maid train ! Because the sound they put out now is perceived as cool, bad ass and hip. To many you tube reactors living off the backs of this group. And it's funny to listen to many of the followers. Who act like the bands PR firm or personal representation. Condemning when someone posts something maybe once, from a previous performance. Not sanctioned officially by the group. But don't have a problem when their favorite reactors have done it. At least multiple of dozens of times on here. P.S. To many self proclaimed Band Maid experts on here as well. Sorry when I see to much B.S. on here. Although I may be one of the only ones that has the guts to. I call it out ! Now of course I will be attacked by the usual social media Band Maid group think.

@@WavePotter Unfortunately I had a respond back to you on your channel. Because that's where most of the group stuff goes on with these Band Maid reactions. And the funny thing is most of the criticism is really not directed at you. But if you go down the list of everything that I brought up. What did I say that was actually inaccurate ? The songs that they have released in the last year have sounded all similar and chaotic. Many of them are linked to anime, right ? If you don't go along with most of the Band Maid group think, you are criticized ! I was 100% right about the bald headed metal guy. And there was another reactor on here. The guy with the long hair and I think he's from New Jersey. Who basically dismissed and said first viewing them. That he would not buy anything they have and nothing they have would interest him. Now he's been doing pretty well the last I don't know 6 8 10 months reacting to much of their music. I just like to call out the BS. That's really waste high here on KZbin. I think this group is one of the best rock bands anywhere in the world. Male or female in the last three or four decades. But I don't drink the Band Maid Kool-Aid. That so many reactors and their followers do. To many middle aged guys (some younger and many even older ) acting way to giddy for their age. About anything this group does. Almost get the impression that if they released an album. With just them banging on garbage cans. The adulation and oversaturation of critical acclaim would be the same. Middle-aged guys are talking about their outfits and costumes. And if I have to hear one more time that they are better than groups like The Beatles Stones Zeppelin or Floyd. I think I'm going to puke all over. They are an incredible group of five phenomenally talented beautiful musicians from Japan. Who are still very early in their careers. The oldest are around 31 I think. And I'm going to see them live in October. But again the non-stop circle jerking that goes on on KZbin with this is complete and at times ridiculous. You are a multi-instrumentalist and i know. You know what you're talking about probably almost 100% of the time. Although I am not a multi-instrumentalist. I have been listening to music probably before you were born. And that would be around a half century or so. And I have been playing the bass guitar though not a professional musician for over 35 years. I think I have a good idea what good music and talent sounds like. And obviously these ladies have it by the bus loads. But it's getting to the point now. Where it's like these ladies, for to many of these middle-aged ( and in some cases creepers ) act like they walk on water. And if I have to see another middle-aged guy talk about how much he loves and wants to marry one of these ladies. In one of these Facebook groups for the band. I'm going to puke over that as well. These ladies deserve much applause and accolades. But it gets to the point now where it's getting way over the top and too much. You know and I know if these were five sweaty guys with tattoos. Around six feet and 250 lbs from Germany. The male middle-aged mostly fan base here. Would be acting quite differently and commenting so differently about this group. I've always said from the beginning although they are attractive. It's always about the music for me first. When I see 80% of the responses are about their looks first whether it be on Facebook, KZbin or Instagram. To me I think that's where much of the over the top praise and much of the compliments derive from. Not from people like you and myself. But too many others ! Thanks for taking the time to respond back to me.
