Cool fact, BoA is born in1986 so she was just 16 year old, so she was so young and talented that she was already. BoA was my introduction to K-pop in 2003 and I discovered her by her Japanese music. A other cool fact, her fandom name is JumpingBoA. So I'm a JumpingBoA since like 18 years and I never stopped following her, so I know a lot about BoA so if you have some questions just ask.

I, too, came into K-pop through BoA's Japanese music. I think "Spark" was my first real K-pop song.

@@omnipyrmaeus I remember that my very first song of BoA was Every heart from the anime Inu-Yasha, but i can not remember my first k-pop song of her since it was like 18-19 years ago. I remember thought that i marathoned all her MV's japanese and korean in 2003 lol

@@Drakis07 nice.. I've known of Kpop since 2005 but 2008 was when I started listening bc of BoA and her song: Eat You Up after that I started searching for as much of her music as I could then I really feel down the rabbit hole by following her labelmates such as TVXQ, SuJu, Shinee and more. BoA will always have a special place in my heart just bc it feels like her influence on me got me into Kpop in the first place.

Actually, she was 15 when the no. 1 MV dropped. She didn't turn 16 until November of 2002.

BoA is the Queen of Kpop. She was the first Korean artist to make kpop global and pave the way for every artist that came after her.

BoA helped paved the way for other idols to gain acceptance outside korea, especially in Japan. All artists owe a debt of gratitude to this pioneer.

i love how BoA has literally no bad songs throughout the 20yrs of her career. even the songs i don't vibe with/enjoy the genre, i can still appreciate that they are quality music, just not my style. Atlantis Princess and Woman are 2 of my favorite BoA songs and they were released literally 15yrs apart, very few artists that i love (not only in kpop) can be that consistent

SM didn't want her to promote ''My name''. They wanted her to promote another song ''Spark''. But she refused to and fought fo ''My name'' to become her title track. She wanted to change her image a bit. In the end Lee Soo Man (the founder of SM) let her promote with ''My name'' (and she promoted ''Spark'' as a B-side track).

Thanks for the BoA reaction! I would think it extremely rare for someone to listen to early 2000's music for the first time and immediately put it on repeat xD So it totally makes sense to me. Doesn't take away from how cool BoA is hehe. I feel like my history with music was very different from others. I grew up not allowed to listen to the popular radio stations and could only listen to Christian artists until middle school when I got an iPod, and my friends would put alt. rock music (circa 2006-2008) on it. I didn't even listen to the Top 40s until high school, so all I knew was my parents' music (70s rock and 80s pop) and Christian music LOL. Then I found Kpop in 2009/2010, and it's still what I listen to the most (besides literally just Paramore and Kehlani)! It was really interesting to hear your journey with music, thank you for sharing~

i'm surprised you reacted to boa, i don't usually see boa reactions! she had a comeback a few months ago that i enjoyed, maybe you would like to watch the stage for that, i think it has a pretty nice choreo! she's also pretty popular in japan and sang the opening of an anime before (inuyasha, one of my favorite animes of all time). and omg is this a bad time to mention that youngjae just recently covered this exact boa song No. 1 (with a slightly difference arrangement i think to make it a bit more modern i think)? it would be cool if you could check it out, i want to know your opinion on it since it is a bit different (but still mostly the same to me lol) and youngjae's voice was so good and nice and rich!

Definitely fair to not instantly fall in love with songs especially when they are of that old style that isn't what you usually listen to these days, but BoA's older songs are the type of the thing that will grow on you I find. Also despite having so many old 2000's classics she has plenty of modern songs ignoring "Better," plenty of the b-sides on her recent album as well as previous albums from 2014-now are just as modern as the norm if just with more flair from past generations and her experience as an artist mixed into it (such as Woman and One shot, Two shot)

First song I heard from BoA was Shinee's cover of Girls on Top and THAT CHOREO, I just had to know who she was. Turns out she is one of the highest deities in kpop and I bow down to her to this day. As for my story with music, my father was a Bissau-Guinean musician who happened to study in Brazil where he married my mom, so my childhood was filled with both african (we lived in Guinea-Bissau) and Brazilian music. When we came back to Brazil I got into rock music and heavy metal, had the whole soft goth experience hahhaaha and because of that, when I was 18, I got into classic music and started studying classic singing. By that time I was completely immersed in a melting pot of diversity (musically and otherwise), cause uni does that to you huahahaha My brother and I ended up sharing dad's love for music and now I am a professional singer and my brother is a lo-fi hip-hop artist, also a great, great guitar player

BoA will always be certified Iconic. My friends and I were super into J-pop in high-school, and I borrowed my friend's copy of Listen to my Heart, and actually purchased the version of Valenti (her 2nd Japanese album) for myself. No 1. is one of those songs that takes me back to my high-school days. And I may or may not have had a bit of a crush on her from her Valenti MV. Then in about 2010 or so, I was starting to get into K-pop for it's own sake as she was doing the Hurricane Venus comeback. So she's very much an iconic presence in my musical history. I was something of a magpie in defining my musical tastes. Dad was into country music, mom was into more rock music. Rap and R&B were huge in my school when I was 12/13 and starting to expand my taste in music. Then we ended up moving to another school district and I fell into the anime group which meant getting into anime OSTs and later J-pop (BoA, but also singers like Utada Hikaru and Hamasaki Ayumi). Then I picked up a bit of my partner's taste in music and then some random recommendations from people I followed on the internet in the days of Live Journal. There are definite vibes I tend to choose over others and I missed out on 90% of music trends as they happened, but otherwise my taste is pretty eclectic and I still pick up songs from EVERYWHERE, which is a lot easier to do these days than it was back in the late 90s, early 00s.

Hahahaha that HMV used to be the flagship shop in Japan, in Shibuya, her MV is set in Japan. I used to use sign to navigate the Shibuya back streets, didn't matter if I got lost I'd always find my way out again thanks to that sign. 😂 Back in the early 2000s J-pop was much more accessible abroad than K-Pop, and I think the work of artists like BoA and Trax in Japan opened up K-Pop to a lot of western fans via the J-Pop pathway. Pioneers.

I grew up with my brother and cousin who are 11 and 13 years older than me, so until I was like 5-6 all I knew was what they listened to! (mostly early 2000s pop punk, and some pop like Madonna, Britney, MJ) until I started watching music channels (and disney) and that was literally all I did the entire day 😭 I honestly listen to whatever my ear likes I don't really mind genres, but pop and pop punk / alternative music of the 2000s marked me A LOT and you can see the influence of it in what I listen to today!

I was happy to see you appreciating that dancer's strength as well :'D it's thanks to you that I finally noticed it hahahaha I just noticed that you have quite a few more reactions to BoA so I'll be happily indulging myself in those now :D Thanks for checking out her work!! EDiT: Also I just wanted to firmly agree with all of your comments about her dancing skills. I do think she's my favourite dancer in K-POP history. Music influence was also slightly similar to yours in that it comprised of parents' records, MVs from TV and occasional radio. I have favourite music from previous decades where I can't name either the title or artist because I was never able to catch it on radio or TV :'D only later, after searching on KZbin, was I able to find a few.

The third one was also far and away my favorite. I have to say the make up and something about the vocal tone really reminds me of 6th Sense. My music history is definitely oddball. While my father was a pianist who'd played Carnegie hall (but not his main occupation) and my Mother was a singer in the choir, I actually didn't have much interest in most music. My favorites were humor songs. Tom Lehrer, Flanders and Swan. I'm 64 by the way so at that point it was the records in house. I liked folk and the Beatles. Once I went away to college my favorites were Queen, Yes, Al Stewart. Then I was in a social circle where we spent a lot of time sitting around singing and playing guitars together (Grateful Dead, Steve Goodman, John Prine, and people's originals). Immediately before finding Mamamoo two years ago my favorite was Lana Del Rey and I still think she's awesome. I've always liked music videos (well since they've existed anyway). But K-pop has really been the first time I've immersed myself in popular music.

I grew up on classical music and studied and performed classical music and opera at high school and university and then with an opera company, allwhile listening to alternative music and Western pop on the radio. But kpop I got into through hearing 2pm sing the ending song for an anime a few years ago and I fell into the wonderful rabbit hole that is kpop. I soooo wish I had discovered it earlier! And BOA is a legend.

BoA, the legend!!!!!! She is AMAZING!!!! SUPER AMAZING!!! No 1 is still suuuuuuuuuper iconic Also suuuuper popular in Japan. I knew of Boa before kpop because animes ost, like for example, Every heart for Inuyasha (didn't knew then she was korean, back in the mid 2000's I wasn't looking info up for artist XD) My first comeback with BoA was with Hurricane Venus, which I will forever hear as Hurricane Penis because of Jo Kwon (amazing artist, member from the ballad group 2AM) he was saying venus but people hear it as penis XD I used the word super to much XD
