One of his best gags is about seeing a country music artist who kept introducing his songs by saying "...and it goes a little something like this". Carl yelled out "Why don't you play it exactly how it goes".

After being a fan of Carl for many years, I was lucky enough to see him perform in Melbourne last year. I just love his humour - he doesn’t rely upon swearing, racism, sexism etc to make people laugh, it’s very relatable/observation based humour. You would be hard pressed to find an Aussie that doesn’t love Carl. He’s a national treasure.

If you look at the Etymology of ‘Thongs’, the term only became synonymous with G-Strings after an American Ad in the early 90s, prior to that, calling “Flip-Flops” Thongs was widely used in the U.S., and is a very long standing term, Historically, for the Footwear.

No, Flip Flops = Thongs and Sandals are Sandals or slip-ons, An American Thong in Australia is a G-String. PS: Yes, Australians do wear socks with thongs-(flip flops) and sandals. It was invented by the Italians and Greeks in Australia.

Would you believe… we call slides ‘flip flops’… and we do have special socks that have a big toe spot… but generally we just wear our regular socks and yes, it gets jammed in between your toes. It feels super weird lol

yep, the fashion failures over here will wear socks under normal flip flops with the sock being pushed between the big toe and next one. Quite a lot of older people do it as their feet get cold.

What you guys call flip-flops, here in NZ we call them Jandals, which is the correct name. WW2, Japanese issued something very similar to captured allied soldiers. The pow's called them Japanese sandals (hence the word Jandal). A returned pow brought the idea back here, refined them a bit, and the rest is history. Now there's some totally useless info for ya.

Ok im Australian and yes we call them thongs for your feet, sandals are the same as you guys. I seriously have never heard the term slides for those slip on sandals before. Theres also crocs which is the same as you guys too. We are pretty Americanised here but i will never call thongs flip flops nope i refuse that one lol

Hi Suzi & Travis, I love all your reactions to anything Australian. If you want a real good laugh, then watch Roy & Hg doing their unusual hilarious gymnastics commentary at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Growing up in Canada we used to call 'flip-flops', 'thongs'. I still have to catch myself occasionally to not make that mistake.

In New Zealand we call slides scuffs and yeah we normal socks with them usually In winter but we call flip flops/thongs Jandals and to wear normal socks with them you make a indent by pulling the sock between your toes if you get what I mean 😂😂

Thongs goes back to when shoes were basically a piece of leather for the sole, held on to the foot by leather straps called thonging, which went between the toes and wrapped around the foot and leg, much like roman sandals. No, slides are slides in Australia too

Thongs in australia are the flip flops that you wear between your toes. You can get socks that are split where your toes are which enables you to wear thongs (flipflops), but not many wear those...😂😂😂

Socks with thongs (flip flops), yes we do that. I was doing it for weeks around then house up until a few weeks ago when the weather got even colder and on went the ugg boots.😉

Where the strap goes in between your big and second toe, when put on a sock you have to push the sock between the big and second toe before putting the thong/flip flop on.

Only extremely "un cool" Aussies wear socks with thongs, sandals or slip ons. That's more an English thing and we laugh and point when we see English tourists wearing that combination !
