@@NavyDoc5184Reacts She did and she did some amazing tributes to Bowie after his death. She's not Bowie, but she did him justice, she doesn't get enough credit. Bowie always live shows gave her props.

I think that's what people miss in regards of tributes...the idea isn't to mimick them, but to honor them.

That's Earl Slick on guitar. If you to see that gentleman go off watch "Stay", live from the beeb, (BBC). It's from the same concert. To get a feel of what a Bowie concert was like they have a rendition of "Rebel Rebel" that puts you in the audience and simultaneously impeccable sound. Share it with us or not, do yourself that favor.

This Is Not America" is a song by English singer David Bowie and American jazz fusion band Pat Metheny Group, taken from the soundtrack to the 1985 film The Falcon and the Snowman.[1] It was released as a single in February 1985, reaching number 14 in the United Kingdom and number 32 in the United States. The instrumental song that "This Is Not America" is based on, was written by Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays and is itself a song called "Chris", which was also included on the soundtrack for the film.

Heck yeah, his 80s music is dominant. As the World Falls Down is another 80s movie song, and I know it's going to hit you. He was absolutely killing the 80s film soundtrack game, and everything was god tier. You could listen to any of his film songs and find an immediate banger. People usually find his 80s material the weakest, but I say otherwise. This show is brilliant, and in a lot of ways I think he did get better and better as a vocalist. That said, the really early 70s stuff isn't as effective because he changed the accents and because his voice did get lower, but anything the Young Americans album onwards sounded flawless for 30 years until he stopped touring. That consistency is beyond crazy. I love all the eras vocally for different reasons and picking a favorite is hard, although 1976 was probably the most profound and otherworldly year. Bowie was the king.

I think Golden Years is probably still my favorite, but boy this song is making it tough for me to keep saying that. I don't think I was expecting that type of energy with this song. It's like each new song I do a new surprise awaits.

@@NavyDoc5184Reacts Just wait until the intense ones hit. He has so many progressive masterpieces and so many energized rockers and a bunch of songs that got people starting bands. This iceberg is absolutely massive and the tip could already sink a cruise liner.

Lol well you know the saying..."Different strokes for different folks." I'm not all that versed in Bowie so I don't know what was written when, but I do know what I like and its good enough for me. One thing that I think can be easily agreed on is that Bowie was constantly evolving and improving

Honestly, those assumptions felt really rude. The 80s era isn't my favorite era and I even said 1976 was my favorite vocal year. I'm no 80s child. I'm 24 and my favorite albums are Scary Monsters (which was mostly demoed in 1979, with It's No Game dating back to 1970), Diamond Dogs, and Aladdin Sane. People are entirely unfair to the 80s music and popular critical consensus is David made much worse in the 90s on Black Tie White Noise and Hours. The Tin Machine albums are also considered a career low while Let's Dance is David's best-selling album by a landslide. David didn't like the 80s era because he was told he had to be an underground artist or he had no integrity, and he fed into reviews from elitist people who labeled him a sellout. Both Tonight and Never Let Me Down helped Iggy Pop to get more royalties for songs he wrote with David, David revitalized Peter Frampton's career, and David gave Stevie Ray Vaughan the exposure he needed to have massive success. Most importantly, David pressured labels into re-signing Tina Turner when she was reduced to being a lounge singer and gave her songs that greatly helped her to get back on her feet. Then, he worked with some amazing film composers to build an atmosphere and fit the material he was writing for. David was at his most giving musically during that era and he wasn't selling out or phoning things in. Skipping that era isn't anything that will help someone understand Bowie's discography. There's exciting, moving material with great soundscapes from the 1980s. Everything can't be about Ziggy, Low, and Blackstar, and there's no room for arrogance when someone is interested in knowing about an artist who made something for everyone.

I came upon this performance of this song recently here on KZbin and it quickly became a favorite. I love the jazz/fusion/funk vibe and the lyrics seem pertinent to today. You mention liking good guitar solos; another reaction I recommend is Pink Floyd's version of 'Sorrow' from the Pulse concert in 1994.
