This one was a new one for me..but good lord. Dimash is dimash. There isn't anything he does that isn't brilliant. Every note. Every nuance. The way he brings the audience with him. There is nothing else like him on the planet. He makes it an incredible time to be alive. Thank you for introducing me to this piece of art.

Olzhas Qurmanbek perform on the kobyz . he is considered the best kobyz player in the world. A gifted Kobyz player can re-create the Soundscapes of the Steppes and the different animals who live there. It is traditionally played by shamans and is considered a sacred instrument!

Thank you for your reaction! Dimash agrees with you about the skill of his kobyz player: he has said he's the best in the world! His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. All of the musicians on Dimash's team are exceptionally skilled!

@Snarky_Tart 2 жыл бұрын
Kobyz is pronouced as coe-bizz, with the accent on the first syllable. The one time Dimash had a different kobyz player accompany him on "Samaltau" it wasn't the same. Olzhas Qurmanbek is a world-class kobyzist (Dimash says he's the best in the world, and I'll trust his judgement on this). When I hear Olzhas play a kobyz solo, it moves me to tears every time, even on repeated listens. I don't understand how this instrument is played, except that the strings float above the neck, and I've read that the sound is produced by playing between the strings, with one string used for the melody and the other for resonance. But how many sounds can you get from two strings and a bow? Apparently, in the hands of a master, an infinite number. But, the real mystery is how this "simple" instrument elicits such an emotional response. It's the perfect instrument to accompany Dimash's voice, and I would love an entire album of just that.

Given your screen name, I was wondering if you knew of the jazz fusion group, Snarky Puppy - it could be the name of your pet!😂 This is legendary, the keyboard solo by Cory Henry is absolutely mind blowing!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpC7e5Kpaq6mh8U

Piano, violine and other classical instruments are an obvious choice for his voice and style, but the electric guitar goes SO well also. I love how they manage to put a modern twist on these folk songs without 'betraying' them.

At the beginning of the song, the sounds of the Great Steppe of Kazakhstan at night were masterfully imitated on the Kazakh ancient folk instrument KOBYZ. We hear howl wolves, barking dogs, the cries of cranes, the noise of water in the river... /// The song "Samal Tau" is considered folk. Its plot is connected with the events of 1916. That year, many men were mobilized for World War I, which was in Europe. /// The guy walks along the steppe road at night and sings a song about having left his native home and old parents, native mountains "Samal Tau". The guy doesn't know what lies ahead in the war. He doesn't know if he'll return from the war to his home. /// In the version of the online concert, the "whirlwind of war" was originally depicted in the form of black smoke and lightning around Dimash. They wanted to show us that war, like a tornado, draws millions of people, and they die, for other people's interests. /// Dimash sings this song in Kazakh. The song premiered on October 20, 2019 in China at the closing of the 6th Silk Road International Film Festival kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3_OoHmZYseEldU

I can really imagine being a young guy, forced to walk from my beautiful and beloved homeland to some cursed battlefield to fight a foreign war. Looking back for a last time at the majestic Samal mountain and thinking of my aged parents, wondering what will become of them. samaltau means Mount Samal. The lyrics are sad because it refers to when in 1916 the Kazakh men were recruited by the Russians and forced to fight in the First World War. According to the lyrics, a young man marching towards the battle zone thinks about what awaits him and suffers from what will happen to his parents, who are old and left alone. The instrument that sounds at the beginning is called Kobyz, it has 2 strings and incredible sounds come out of it

About instrument - Qob'yz. In Qazaq language an accent on the last syllable. As in French. The Qazaq language is one of the richest in the world - the official dictionary of the Qazaq language contains more than 2.5 million words. It was fully formed by the 15th century and has remained practically unchanged since then. It is one of the most stable and conservative languages in the world. Qazaqs even now easily understand what is written on the Kul-Tegin stele in the 8th century. So right now you can hear how and in what language the Golden Horde spoke. The Türkic group of languages has the most ancient history of the written language - starting from the Sumerians. In addition, the Qazaq language is the language of poetry and music. Prose was considered something primitive and was called "kara soz" - "black word". Every self-respecting Qazaq had to be able to sing and communicate in poetic form. You can see that Dimash sings practically without opening his mouth - there are very few open vowels. This is a special technique of traditional singing, echoing with the sounds of Qobyz - an instrument played by a musician. We see the same technique at the beginning of the Stranger. For example, when Dimash sings to Dombra, his performance is completely different.
