I love the contrast and tension in this song. It's as if the instrumental represents war, and his voice and mannerisms represent peace. The lyrics are powerful and beautiful, and the music, which Dimash composed, is gorgeously textured and suspenseful. It's a masterpiece, IMO, and Dimash's performance of it breaks my heart every time. I'm so glad it's finally getting more attention with this release.

Bravo!!! An excellent reaction/review of a wonderful passionate anti-war song penned by the best voice in the world!!! When asked during an interview how he came up with this song, he replied... 'I don't really know, the words just came pouring out of me.' Knowing his gentle, kind and loving soul, I can well believe how much wars and conflicts tear Dimash's heart apart, resulting in this beautiful protest song.😧😢😭 I sincerely hope your mum recovers quickly, hang in there both of you. Dimash wrote this song himself mostly in one evening. He told a Chinese lyricist what he wanted to say. Until the digital concert this song had only be sung in his concerts in China and Russia. I prefer his mid range sings to and one that is beautifully melodic is Couldn't Leave. Unfortunately most of the reactors go for the vocal gymnastics only so a a reactor who actually appreciates the music will be a treasure indeed. Btw all of the songs on Di's channel do have subtitles but they may appear a few hours after the song has been uploaded.

Dimash sang 'War and Peace' in all his spring 2020 Arnau concerts, in Russia, Latvia and Ukraine (Concerts in Germany and Czech Republic were postponed because of pandemic).

I know that a lot of fans prefer one type or style of song that Dimash sings or one part of his range over another...I wouldn't want everything to be vocal gymnastics, but then again I wouldn't want all ballads, or rock songs, or pop, or classical. I wouldn't call anything Dimash does simply "vocal gymnastics"! Even in the most spectacular performances, there is always so much subtlety and nuance in his phrasing, and it's always emotionally gripping. And let's face it, Dimash probably wouldn't even be famous if it weren't for vocal gymnastics! Of course he deserves to be famous many times over, just on the strength of each small part of his performance. I love his baritone, I love his tenor, his soprano. I love the Kazakh songs, I love the ballads. I love the quiet intimate songs, I love the show stoppers. I would never want to lose "Stranger", for instance!! It's not "either/or" for me, it's "everything"!!

@@FretsOnFire Very well said🙏 You described just what I feel too: Dimash's isn't either this or that, he is everything! I like all his songs, for different reasons... Some songs I love and feel deeply but I see something unique/good in all of them. You are right, those incredible songs like 'SOS' and 'Stranger' has a LOT of emotion when they are also very impressive vocally. Again, he can be everything😊 I think there are very few songs that Dimash has sung which are mainly for vocals and not emotions: 'Diva Dance' and that Vitas' song 'Opera 2' (originally meant to impress), which was chosen by The Singer organizers. I feel like in every song Dimash's vocals are serving the song. He uses his range of voices and tones, his techiques and all he has to tell the story. It's his unique expressive way of singing. Like a totally new concept. No wonder that for many it can be challenging to get his style.

@@FretsOnFire Thanks, I'm fine... We have quite peaceful here, life is somehow back to normal mostly. Only that in shops etc masks/sanitazing are commonly used, it has become just new normal lol. Not bad though. Some changes have also remained, f. ex. many school/job meatings still happen online (but it's practical, no need to run around). I've started my swimming hobby again (at teens I was always on the pool). Gives me a lot of energy, just as music. I wish things start to change for better there also. These have been trying times... Thank you for an enthusiastic reaction! I love this song, my favorites. Such an interesting, complex composition and very important message. Dimash himself composed this in 2017 for his master's thesis. Also the lyrics are initially from him. He hired a Chinese poet to write them in Chinese according to his wishes. I really recommend to see the lyrics, they are so poetic and meaningful. Dimash's channel has now the subs to this song in many languages. :)

I completely agree with you about not always needing to know the lyrics to a song. Sometimes it is just great to let your own imagination and interpretation run free. Also, it's not as if there are subtitles during a live concert and I certainly enjoy listening to new songs live without knowing what they are about.

The more I listen to this song the more I appreciate this composition. Actually two of my favorites are this and Unforgettable Day, which he composed as well. Another of his originals that I believe he only sung once is Okanish, and it's gorgeous. It's my sincere hope that he composes more often once he finishes school.
