El Dorado is a mythical city made of gold. As you may know, the Spanish conquerors started the rumor of the city, after learning of the Indian king El Dorado who, according to legend, was covered in gold. So what you saw as part of the background in this performance, was in the beginning the golden gates of the city were there and as the performance went on the gates opened to reveal the mountain and SM's depiction of what they think the city of El Dorado might look like. (LOL which could be Kwangya in SM's storyline.) That is why EXO was all in gold outfits, and I think the lights they danced around were to represent objects they had to navigate through in their search for the city. Finding the city is thought to possibly help to reveal something they need or clues to help them locate the Tree of Life, etc. At the end when they make the X with the light sticks it's to represent the X in EXO, but it's also to represent the X you would find on a treasure map that marks where the treasure would be. In the end X marks the spot and EXO is the treasure. LOL Legends have it that El Dorado is a magical city that can only be found by those who it wants to find it, and some stories say it could have something to do with aliens or otherworldly beings. That's why this song works so well for EXO because EXO's origin story is that they are aliens from Planet Exo who came to Earth with superpowers in order to protect the mythical Tree of Life. That's why in this song some of the English lines are "Sail, sail, sail ... got to go, go, go" ... "got to find, find, find ... El Dorado," etc. Fun fact: It is thought that Lay's solo "Namanana" MV storyline might be connected to "El Dorado's" story. (We see a giant ship sailing through the sky in "Namanana" which is thought to possibly be connected to the fact that in "El Dorado" they are talking about sailing to find El Dorado.) In real life, explorers and Indiana Jones-type treasure hunters are always searching for the lost city of El Dorado thinking if they ever find it, it will be the key to riches and gold. There have been several fictional movies made about the search for El Dorado (For example, Disney has also done adaptations of the El Dorado story over the years with movies and TV shows, etc.) and there even have been TV programs and documentaries, etc. about real life explorers who have searched for the city thinking they can prove it was a real place and, at least in part, the stories could be true. I think in reality El Dorado was a Mayan city that was located on or near a gold minefield and so the city and Inca people who lived there were rich with golden objects made from the tribe's gold. So treasure hunters and explores are looking to find the city's location in the hopes of finding the hidden treasure left behind by its ancient inhabitants, etc. This was only one song out of a 4 or 5 song set in a concert where they probably performed 20 to 30 songs for 3+ hours straight. So, if you think this performance was epic, just wait until you see the full concert. :D

EXO have so much influence on international pop culture that big western companies, such as Disney are coming to them and asking them to partner with them. "Lightsaber" was a collaboration between Disney, which owns the Star Wars franchise, and EXO as a way to help Disney promote the most recent release, at that time, of their Star Wars movie "The Force Awakens". So SM Entertainment came up with the song "Lightsaber" -- which is sort of a remake of a song SM already had also called "Lightsaber" which we heard used in Kai's pre-debut teaser video -- and the accompanying MV. EXO is one of the biggest groups across Asia, with one of the largest fan bases, so it's not surprising that "Lightsaber" as a song and MV got a lot of recognition around the world. And because of its popularity, SM came up with this concert stage to showcase it. One of the reasons why SM agreed to partner with Disney on this project was because it fit so well with EXO's storyline and concept. As aliens from Planet Exo, it makes sense that EXO might be Jedis as well. :D And like everything that EXO does, flowers even play a part in their live stages. As I have explained in the past, flowers seem to be a central part of EXO's storyline, so we even get flowers in their live performances. Although I don't know what the significance of blue roses is, blue roses seem to have an important part in the story. We also see Sehun with a blue rose in their "Love Shot" MV. This concert is in Japan, and SM's official concert DVDs are always filmed at concerts in the largest cities of the tour. The Tokyo Dome is the largest concert venue in Japan and EXO are mega popular around the world, but extremely so in Asia, so if they are going to hold a concert in Japan it will always be at the Tokyo Dome because that venue is large enough to accommodate their epic stages and the massive amount of fans who want to see the concert. The Tokyo Dome holds 55,000 fans and there is an unwritten rule that in order to be allowed to hold a concert there, you have to be able to fill the place to capacity. SM groups such as EXO, TVXQ, SHINee, Super Junior, ect. are so popular in Japan that the concert promoters actually ask SM when they want to hold their next concert there because they know they will have no problem selling out in a matter of seconds, and they will most likely have to hold multiple day concerts to accommodate the number of fans who want to attend. (So if it's a Japanese concert you can assume it will be at the Tokyo Dome every time.) As you just heard, for this performance of "Lightsaber," because they are in Japan, they are singing in Japanese -- "Lightsaber" is one of EXO's Japanese songs, so if you watch the MV, just know it's going to be short because traditionally, most Japanese MVs use an abridged version of the song. I think It's part of Japan's marketing strategy to make you buy the song or album in order to hear the full song. So, most of the time, to hear the whole song you have to see it live in concert like this. (They also have a Korean and Mandarin version of "Lightsaber", as well -- and if you see a clip from this concert tour when they were in Seoul, you will hear the song in Korean.) Rumor has it that an executive from Disney happened to catch EXO's performance of "El Dorado" at one of their concerts and that's how they were inspired with the idea to ask EXO to collaborate with them with "Lightsaber". Also, as one of the big 3 Entertainment companies in Korea and around the world, SM has had a relationship with Disney for a long time now and SM has partnered with Disney to produce programs for Disney Channel Korea in the past. Many of the members of NCT got their start pre-debut as members of Korea's Mickey Mouse Club and they starred on the well known variety show which aired on Disney Channel Korea. As you noticed, at the end of 'Lightsaber," when they started their dance with the lightsabers, you saw that they turned on their rain machine. That part of the stage has a rain feature that can be turned on and off. So it was raining down on them the whole time they were dancing with the lightsabers. That's why they were wet at the end. That's also where the water they were dancing in earlier came from. Water played a big part in this concert tour and they got wet several times during each concert because of the rain machine and moat filled with water that encircled that part of the stage.
