If you averaged 20 points a game, played all 82 games a season, played all four rounds in the playoffs and every round goes to game 7, thats 110 games leading to 2200 points in a season. You would need that kind of play for more than 18 seasons straight to reach 40k and thats with the best possible situation averaging 20 a game and getting as much playoff games as possible. No one is playing every game in a season anymore and almost noone is likely to play at that level for that amount of time. This aint like curry's 3pt record which as the league shifts towards more 3s becomes less likely to stay. It is genuinely hard to fathom someone breaking this record that isnt even done yet.
