The girls have sense embraced their Minx past and have performed "Love Shake" as DC. I had the opportunity to catch them in Reading, PA and it was an amazing show. Just a bunch of talented, beautiful, dorks.

Thanks so much for the DC content! I don't often see people reacting to Minx. DC can rock any concept (their Bsides prove it) but I'm so glad that they completely reinvented themselves from cutesy to dark concept. Kpop gg is so saturated with girl crush, cutesy and bubbly concept. That's why their company transformed them into Dreamcatcher. During that time, there was just too much competition for the girls. Their company wanted them to stand out. Transforming them into an edgy pop metal group with dark concept was a breath of fresh air. And it's paying off for them big time. They are very unique and versatile. They can be cute and sexy too when they want to be. But most of the time, they're just the biggest dorks. That's why I stan.

Seeing this still makes me wonder if Dami ever misses being maknae...sometimes I think she does miss it. But I never heard of her doing anything extremely baby-ish the way Gahyeon does sometimes (especially her temper; nobody else could get away with throwing fits like that when she doesn't get her way. Or she can just give them THE LOOK when she is angry...). :D

Just like you said "those weird shots" and "underaged members" The name Minx means a flirtatious woman so maybe they rlly did that even if members were underaged They didn't continue it because they were unsuccessful given the facts that twice debuted (from what ik) gfriend released a song and didn't stand out from the bunch After disbanding the girls went through depression JiU and SuA,as the older members they felt like they didn't do enough, Siyeon, she almost didn't like to music anymore, Dami was beginning to get addicted to phone and Yoohyeon will immerse herself to gaming So that's why it was traumatic, especially for Siyeon So they literally change their whole concept, music and added members Rock isn't well known in Korea and Dark concepts at that time So they chose a Dark concept, cause it standed out of the bunch and slowly getting the recognition that they deserved Well anyways thx for reacting! Hope to see you reacting to their moments and other vids!

@@mixplit74 Yeah, after I typed this, I found something that said that both Dami and Yoohyeon were seventeen when this was filmed. I could not believe the company had minors doing this stuff. That is mind-blowing. So, maybe it's not so bad that it took them until later in 2016 to re-debut. But even with that, Gahyeon was still in school. They actually debuted as DC BEFORE Gahyeon graduated HS! WOW!

@@jamescurfman3284 Dami was born on March 7, 1997. WDYCTMH was released on Sep 18, 2014. If we do a little math, Dami (the maknae at the time) would have been 17 years 6 months old and, yes, in the west she would be considered a minor. However... We're talking about a different culture here. South Korea calculates age differently. First, when you are born you are considered 1 year old. Second, the day on which you age one year is not the day you were born. They consider you a year older on New Years day. Yes, they still celebrate individual birthdays but that is to celebrate your birth, not you getting older. (does that all make sense?) Sooooo... Dami's Korean age when Minx debuted was actually 18 years old. Then we can get into age of consent and other differences in culture. Not saying that any of this makes it any less cringe. Just saying that it probably wasn't as big a deal in South Korea as it is in other parts of the world.

Yep Minx songs were fine but not that original (if these 2 songs came from one of the 3-4 big companies, they would got more recognition already as the quality is still there). Also, in the end I kind of like WDYCTMY and their choreo was kind of different with some skate boards. And as you said, we could already hear tiny Siyeon's powerful and incredible voice. She was hitting these notes LIVE right from their debut stages!!!! For the info, Dami was the maknae during Minx era but Yoohyeon and Dami were born the same year 1997. So yes they were underage even in South Korea and baby Siyeon was barely 19. As InSomnias, we have to know Minx and where they come from to understand their struggle and appreciate even more their hardwork. The members can joke about Minx between them BUT it is something we shouldn't bring to the girls as it was a really hard time for them (especially when they disbanded this group). Thanks for the reaction. ❤️

There's nothing wrong with the song. It's bop, sound a lot like Sistar back in the day. But at that time everyone is pulling off the concept. Also they're a new group under small company, so it's even harder to breakthrough. I don't know if they really hate the song or not, I just think they don't want to remember the dark past, about being disband. The disappointment they face when Minx did not work out as they thought it would be. I'm sure we don't know how it felt like. But after all, if it's not for Minx disbandment there won't be any Dreamcatcher at all and I probably won't listen to Kpop right now.

Ngl, the songs are actually good, and their vocals and choreo were already top notch. The other comments have already explained, the group flopped, not enough sales and all that. And as mentioned by others, Dodging Disbandment video is recommended to get a clear explanation. It's an old video so the video ended till Deja Vu era. And this is a dark history for 5 of them, especially for Siyeon And Dami. Siyeon got affected by the disbandment very badly till she kept herself in and not even wanting to listen to any music 😭.

Yeah, the Love Shake video is... awkward, to say the least, though first time I saw it after being used to DC, I was mostly reeling from the blinding colours..! 😂 WDYCTMH was actually their debut in September 2014, Love Shake came out months later in July '15, and is a cover of a B-side from their sister group, Dal*Shabet. At debut, they ranged from 17 years old (Yoohyeon and Dami) to 20 (JiU and SuA). Siyeon was about to turn 19. The main reason they didn't continue on as Minx was that they just weren't hitting the numbers to justify it; as brilliant as they obviously were, there was just too much similar competition at the time for them to stand out, but rather than consider _them_ a failure and drop them, as some labels might, Happyface knew what they had, and decided on a new marketing strategy instead. Cue Handong, Gahyeon and Dreamcatcher. 😁 If you haven't seen Mera's "Dodging Disbandment and Other Extreme Sports" documentary, I feel like now might be a good time to do so. It's about a year old now, and half an hour long, but does a brilliant job of diving into the history of the group, and covering their many ups and downs over the years. I can guarantee your respect for them will increase _exponentially._ And for the record, you will _never_ see SuA with hair that short again, no matter how much she would rock it. The idea of even cutting it to _shoulder_ length when her hair was fragged gave her the heebie-jeebies...

Short Version: Sales were mediocre to bad. I love them, but first impression of these songs sounded a lot like the other songs about boys at the time with debuts of groups like Lovelyz and Gfriend. Good Insomnias don't bring up or make jokes about pre-2017 just to give them some peace from it. It's kind of Gahyeon and Handong's job to run interference for the members when Minx comes up from thoughtless interviewers. Here is a recent example of them taking the pressure off the other five, and you get to see what 7-member Minx would have been like (also some great Gahyeon content) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZKxYWuhhdJsh9U

I love their Minx songs! There are a few videos of them busking as Minx and they really show how awesome their vocals were back then. DC all have varying opinions on Minx. JiU doesn't hate it at all but is respectful of the other members feelings. SuA and Yoohyeon are just like "ewww" but Siyeon and Dami can't stand anything Minx. As for their ages, Yoohyeon and Dami debuted at 17, Siyeon at 19, and JiU and SuA at 20. They all just look like infants!

Why didn't they continue with this? Because it flopped, mainly because of market saturation but also from poor management decisions at the time. "Why did you come to my home" is a summer bop, but was released in September. Very close to this release, Mamamoo, Red Velvet, BerryGood and Lovelyz debuted. No single album was released. They then did not release anything else for 10 months, coming back the next summer with "Love Shake", for which a debut mini-album was released. But, "Love Shake" is a cover. It was initially released as a B-side by their labelmates Dal Shabet in 2012. Add to that the fact that GFriend, Oh My Girl and CLC debuted that year, plus comebacks from the groups of the previous year, plus Girls Generation coming out with Lion heart. They just weren't able to attract mainstream attention at the time. Dami was the only member underage at the time. There were a few months between when Minx was disbanded and when the idea of re-debuting as Dreamcatcher came up. During that time, Siyeon thought that her dream career was over and she wouldn't get to sing and be on stage again. I believe these memories are what get brought up every time Minx is mentioned.

Some of the members reference it from time to time and even enjoy the meme, such a JiU, and both Gahyeon and Handong have laughed about it (I think Gahyeon even said she'd be down to do a concept like it). But Siyeon especially has a hard time with this as it brings up a lot of bad memories for her so out of respect most Insomnia don't talk about it on the girls vapps

Well, the whole Minx concept was cringe. They "were" the Tomboy Minx, who liked Vitamins. The fandom was called Vitaminx. The Minx cutsie ultra Pop sound vs the Dreamcatcher cool Nu Rock sound. But this was not the worst. Back in 2014-2015, most GG groups were cutsie, but hypersexualized and objectified. The Minx members struggled to keep this up. Yohyeon and Dami were fresh out of High School in the Winter 2014-15 ("Why did you come to my home" era) and they had to show their bodies as an K-Pop industry-standard must-do in 2014 objectification of their bodies (vs the controlled empowered sexiness as a choice - and as full adults - in Dreamcatcher).... And then, there was the Dal Shabet and the whole Joker controversy in 2015. Minx had a big sister GG under Happyface, called Dal Shabet. A successful group, with talented members that were active back in 2014-15. In 2015 Dal Shabet released a song called Joker. That's fine, because Batman and Joker was in fashion back then. HOWEVER, Joker is very similar in Korean to sounding like "big p***s". Especially, the way they pronounced the first part of the word in the song. And if you combine this with lyrics that said how much they want Joker, you can understand straight away why KBS banned the song, until it changed it's lyrics. Google "Dal Shabet Joker controversy" for more. The end result was that members were walking out of Dal Shabet. The first two in 2015 and other three in 2016, as their contracts ended, effectively ending the group. (By 2018, all the members had left Happyface.) At the same time, Minx was disbanded in 2016 and before Dreamcatcher were created in 2017, they had a really difficult time. 2016 was a dark time for all the people in Happyface. Happyface was just following the whole K-Pop spirit of the times. They were also trying to collaborate with YG himself on some projects, resulting in the disastrous Mixnine affair in 2018 (mostly for YGE). So the whole style was meant to appeal to the big K-Pop companies. Also, I do believe that the whole series of mergers for the HF parent company Welmade in 2016, did play a role in changing the atmosphere. Happyface has probably gained more autonomy under the new company Imagine Asia, and they clearly understood their mistakes and started protecting the members of Dreamcatcher and D1CE (as we can see in the Mixnine affair.)
