The truth is, we take most of these things for granted. There are so many choices, and I speak for myself, I just tend not even to notice. I just block most of it out. It’s also worth noting, that even the amount of choices available, I still have to shop at more than one store to get everything I want. Not all stores carry the same items.

So true. I have to go to target to find the specific toys I’m looking for and I usually only buy snack foods and junk food from walmart and buy my meats and produce at my local grocery store or Aldi.

The fun thing about these reaction videos is rediscovering our own country through the wonder struck eyes of foreigners. Honestly I have not visited the bakery and ice cream section for maybe 4 years and have forgotten to appreciate the size and convenience of Costco and Walmart. I mean I know all the stuff is there somewhere but I just rush to the aisle I want to get to and ignore the rest. IThank you Mert, this makes me once again appreciate US as the blessing it is

As an American you become numb to the amount of choices we have. We may have an extreme amount of choices but when I walk into any store I know what I need and keep to the necessities. It's only when I go into a store like Walmart with no list that I then over spend on things I may not need. A good tip these days is to order what you want online and just go pick it up or have it delivered so that you are not tempted by everything else in the store.

I have definitely benefited from Wal Mart’s grocery pick up. I’ll also say that whenever I RSVP to a formal event like a banquet or wedding and they have like three meal options I always feel relieved that my choice is narrowed down for me. Sometimes you get decision paralysis with all these options.

Well actually as a responsible American, I've been to other places in the world, lived another ways because I was given the education and opportunity to do so. In the 60s and 70s when the boomers were rolling around in their own feces at Woodstock And the 1980s when many were swilling Crystal champagne, putting cocaine up their noses... Some of us were doing other things. So I understand other ways of living, what's priority. That's what I chose to do with my "American privilege" So please don't dump me in your vat as an ignorant American Thane Q Forlettinme Be Mice elf

Most syrup you find in the grocery stores is NOT pure maple syrup which is on another level of deliciousness. We're just used to this so we don't think about sizing, variety and that it's not just a few items that have many choices but everything. From brand names to store brands to sizing, flavors, dietary restrictions. We are the country of diversity and excess, lol. Creamer is a nondairy addition to your coffee to replace milk which comes in a variety of flavors like you could add if you bought coffee in a coffee shop. Walmart can be cheaper with some items, more expensive than others and run the same price but it's also dependent on where you are in the country. Some regular grocery stores can run higher but being able to buy in "bulk" can save you in the long run because the pricing can go up and down. I love shopping at Walmart because it truly is a one stop shop. I'll be going next week for tires and an oil change. If I hadn't already done a grocery pick up, I would've done my shopping while they worked on the car, lol. You can buy guns in Walmart but not in every store. This Walmart is seriously larger than the one where I am. Not all stores have to pay for bags as we don't here. The listed prices are not including tax. That's added afterwards and that percentage is different from state to states. There are some states that don't have a sales tax. Sadly I don't like in one of those states, lol.

50% of Americans visit a Walmart in the USA weekly. The outer perimeter of a Super Walmart equals a 3 mile (over 4km). They have all manner of services--including banking, hair salons, full service garage, pharmacy, optometry services, outdoor/garden section, and different kinds of restaurants. The selections are pretty overwhelming. I always am amazed at people's reaction to shopping in the USA. One of my colleagues was from Romania. When her mother came to visit, she fainted in the middle of the store--just so overwhelmed with all the food choices. I laughed at the candy aisle. There is regular candy aisle--and then there is the holiday candy aisle. They did not really see the weapons area--that is another area different. Purchasing guns, ammo, and archery items. At least the insanity of Black Friday has moderated a lot--it was insane back in the day. There are a lot of 'interesting' people, depending when one shops there. It is still not a 1 stop store. For instance, I do not buy meat from there. Produce I buy from other stores.

Some Walmarts do sell guns and prices in general in the US do not include tax because every state, county, and in some cases even cities, have their own rules for what can be taxed or not taxed and at what rate. Ultimately it's impractical to mark items with a final price when they are distributed to thousands of different tax jurisdictions within the US.

We go to Walmart, Target, Costco, Sam’s, and Whole Foods usually once, sometimes twice a month. Walmart is kind of a one stop shopping place for many Americans. The prices are generally lower than other places and as with many stores here, if you can show that the price of something is lower than the price the have on the product, they will match it and in some cases, add a small discount. You didn’t even get to see the gardening section, the pharmacy and drugs.. personal care, grooming, electronics.. laptops, televisions, play stations, and yes, in many places especially in the Southeastern, Midwest, Southwest areas of the U.S. store locations, you can purchase rifles, shotguns, ammunition, compound bows, arrows, books, boots and shoes, music, fresh cut flowers, meats and butchers, full bakeries etc.. there was an old joke that said something about “if you can’t find it in Walmart, you probably didn’t really need it.” Some of the stores have vision care to get your eyes checked and then purchase your contacts or glasses there.. small doctor’s offices, hair salons, Starbucks, Fast food restaurants.. I’ve seen people cruise around looking to meet people and even once, in Tennessee, I saw a wedding. (It seems they met there shopping or working..). I think the only other place as overwhelming for me would be Home Depot. I too like to walk through grocery stores, bakeries, etc.. in other countries to see what is popular in food, fashions, and other things in other countries when we travel. I find it fun to see what everyday people purchase, where they live, what they drive or how they commute. The local culture is as important to see as the art and architecture.

Maple syrup is naturally produced from the maple tree. Other tab look e syrups are mixtures that are also used on pancakes but less expensive than maple syrup. The product sizes are large because places like Wal-Mart and Costco are beneficial for large families and people who live far from a supermarket or shopping center. These stores are also convenient for parties and companies holding large parties or fundraisers. There is processed "American cheese" and natural American cheese. people from outside the US often confuse the two. Natural American cheese comes in white as well as orange. The processed cheese is usually orange. Best to buy the natural American cheese (noted on the package and freshly sliced at the deli counter). Creamer is a shelf- stabilized liquid or powder to add to coffee. Many come in a variety of flavors. It was developed as a quick substitute for milk or light dairy cream when the real dairy products were not available or when there was no refrigerator available. Non-dairy creamer is convenient for places like office coffee breakrooms or for people who cannot drink dairy. Non-dairy creamer vs real milk or cream is a personal preference.

i go to walmart a couple times a week. one trip on like friday for my main groceries (think paper towels, dish soap, sandwich ingridents, dinner ingridents, milk, eggs, cat food, litter etc) and then will go back maybe mid week to get more produce or something i've run out of. you pretty much have an idea what you're after when you go, and can block out some of the other "noise" of like 50 flavors of chips knowing you're only after tortilla chips or something like that. the hostess cakes you were wondering if they were junk food or not, they are. some parents will pack them as a dessert or a special treat in their kids lunches. like if i had a big assignment one day, my mom would surprise me by putting something yummy in there. but i def. don't reccomend them for every single day lol but sometimes a honey bun and a coffee just hit different. i like walmart because instead of going to like 2-3 stores i can get all my shopping done in one place. and their clothing department isn't too shabby. i love their night gowns and can buy some decent warm winter clothes there without breaking my budget. and i LOVE their book section. my walmart has practically a mini bookstore and it's so fun to browse the books every time i go. they also have an excellent home goods section. their coffee maker ($19) works bounds better than my expensive one that was $100 for example. their in-house brand "main-stays" in incredible for home goods, bath towels, kitchen ware, etc. when i was moving, i was so happy to get my coffee maker for $19, a toaster for $11 and a blender for about $20. lmao never thought i'd be writing a comment praising wal-mart but it's pretty dang for what it is, if you know what it is and how to shop there.

That's a Walmart "super center," their largest tier. Places like Walmart and Target combine department store with supermarket so they can put ALL the local shops out of business. Real maple syrup is made by boiling down the sap from Sugar Maple trees (40 liters of sap for 1 liter of syrup) and is fairly expensive. Most "maple syrup" sold is made from corn syrup with maple flavoring and coloring. Creamer is artificial half & half -- half heavy cream, half whole milk with a fat content around 15%. Milk is really too thin for coffee and cream alone is too thick; half & half is just right. All the products they showed are the big national brands but there's also local and regional brands. Lots of places don't charge sales tax on food.

Years ago, when Wal-Mart started getting the Super Centers, there was a saying, "if Wal-Mart doesn't have it, you don't need it." People take it for granted now, and it's not hard to choose, because you just get your favorites, so it doesn't seem like it's such a vast amount to choose from. It's interesting to see the comparison in someone that hasn't been there before and the experience of going there twice a week or more for years.

Caramel apples used to be at every state fair in the 1970s. It's an apple on a stick dipped in caramel, sometimes with sprinkled nuts on top. They are still available, but they're not as popular nowadays.

One thing about the choice available to you in grocery stores and Walmarts is it will change depending on where you are in the US. The major brands you will find everywhere but you will also find region specific stuff and in some cases possibly state specific items. Edited to add that I think that most Walmarts don't carry guns anymore, but it will depend on state laws. I live in a very conservative state that has a lot fewer gun laws than California and they don't even carry air guns that look like real guns anymore. You can get ammo though.

In the US, every state levies its own sales tax. Plus, some local governments also add sales tax. It is virtually impossible retail stores to add taxes to the shelf price. BTW, the same rule applies in Canada. Each Canadian Province has its own taxes.

Regarding maple syrup, the vast majority of maple syrup you get in stores is maple flavored sugar syrup of some kind or other. The flavoring is usually artificial. Real maple syrup is the sap from maple trees that is boiled down to a syrup. Since there is so much water in the sap, to get the correct sugar levels means you have to boil 30 to 50 gallons of sap down to get 1 gallon of syrup. Not only that, but the sap cannot be harvested from the tree year round. There is a very specific time of year that it can be harvested, and a very specific set of conditions that are required for a good harvest of sap. Usually a two to four week period depending on conditions. The basic conditions are, that it is in the very late winter or very early spring. The temperatures need to be above freezing during the day, and drop below freezing at night. The maple trees begin to come out of their winter dormancy with these conditions and begin to send sap up from the roots to their branches to begin budding, which will eventually open into leaves and their flowers. The first sap that flows is what is harvested due to the higher sugar content and the amount of sap circulating from the base of the tree to the branches. Special tubes are hammered into the trees called taps. Then, pails, bags or in modern operations, pipeline to centralized tanks are attached to the taps to gather the sap. Large trees can have multiple taps.

We have so many different cultures here in the States and every culture has their own way of cooking. I agree with the rest of the US responses. This is normal for us - there is nothing unusual in this video for us that we didn't grow up with. This is normal for us We don't spend hours in WalMart. We run in, get what we need, and check out. It's just a store for us. Creamer - many different flavors of cream for our coffee - sweet, vanilla..... there sew so many depending on the brand. Just please realize WalMart, Target, Sams Club and Cotsco are normal for us. For example, the maple syrup size she first picked out is a typical size for a horse. The size she pointed out for NZ would be for one breakfast. Most of us have the ability to store in bulk because we normally have larger homes and the space. I'm not a WalMart fan - I prefer Target. I haven't been in WalMart in about 5 years. But if I needed to go, I would go in and out (15-20 minutes at the most) to get what I want and leave. Always remember this is normal for us. We wouldn't be diabetic because we don't buy them if we don't need them for work, or kids school parties, etc.. We don't buy any product like you think we do, just because it's on the shelf.

Doritos and Lay's are the most popular brands of chips, and each has a variety of flavors. As far as candy, there are too many to choose! Some top mentions are Reese's, M&Ms, Skittles, Sour Patch Kids, and Haribo or Trolli gummies. There are also a lot of candy bars. It depends on personal preference. That's one thing that America does great: There's so much variety that you can find that exact right thing for you! We sell things in bulk because it's cheaper per unit/weight, but there are also very small individual sizes when you have a limited amount of space or don't want to waste anything. Wal-Mart supplies lots of things, but not every location is the same. They've also started Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets, which limit themselves to Food, pharmacy, limited petcare items and then cleaning supplies. They are about 1/3 the size of the regular stores. Not every store sells liquor or guns, and some have auto centers, some have garden centers, and some have both. I hope you're able to visit someday! Wal-Mart generally has items for slightly less than or equal to other retailers, but when our dollar store (Dollar Tree) raised their lowest price to $1.25, the items that used to be $0.99 at Wal-Mart were raised to $1.20. It wasn't really a necessary increase, but they did it🤷‍♀ When you do self-checkout, it tells you the total with the tax already added. Tax varies by state, so in Tennessee (Where I am) we have one of the highest taxes at 9.25%. But I wish it were included with the listed price!

There are lots of regional chain stores and independent places with just as wide a selection and stores just as big or bigger. But Walmart is famous for being a national chain, unbeatably cheap, and super cutthroat in business. Walmart can buy at such a vast scale that they get price breaks nobody else can match.

Fructose Corn syrup does come from corn. It's used to sweeten a myriad of food products. People who buy large quantities of things, like maple syrup, either have large families with teenage boys (I'm only half way serious) or, as in my experience, belong to groups or clubs who are having a big breakfast(s) event with their members coming up, so they need to buy huge amounts of eggs, orange juice, bacon, pancake mix, etc.

Apples and carmel is pretty good, we do carmel apples where the carmel is wrapped around the apple usually with nuts. Personally I prefer peanut butter and apples. High fructose corn syrup is in almost everything here including soda, it's really bad for you. You add cream or milk to tea, we add creamer to coffee. Prices in the US have doubled, tripled and more over the last couple years, everything but some things much more than others. People steal anything, and yes that's why they are locked up. There is always added tax to anything you buy, even online. How much depends on where you are and what you are buying but there is always tax. We do the bulk of our shopping at Walmart, I hate going there but 9 times out of 10 they are cheaper. Reactions like yours remind us how blessed we are, blessings.

As far as the guns go, I've lived in Oklahoma City (capital city of Oklahoma, U.S.) my whole life, and the walmarts here stopped selling guns when I was pretty young, I want to say in the 1980s. I've heard from other people who live in conservative states that their walmarts still sell them, so it must be based on states, but I'm surprised that if some states still sell them, why doesn't Oklahoma, because Oklahoma is a very conservative state as well. Been wondering that since I learned earlier this year that some states still sell them. For the variety thing, even though it's all I've ever known, I still sometimes feel overwhelmed with all of the choices when I go grocery shopping, especially for sweets. I just went to Walmart yesterday for groceries, and wanted to buy like two things that were sweet to have in the house, and I didn't even make it to the candy or cookie aisle, I bought two packages of doughnut holes from the first aisle, the bakery and baked goods aisle, so told myself to skip the cookie and candy aisles to avoid temptation. Gas stations/convenience stores have the same issue as far as sweets goes. If I'm in the mood to just run up to the gas station outside of my neighborhood to grab a candy bar, there are around a hundred different things to choose from. Better to try to get stuff from Walmart, though, if possible, since a single candybar from the gas station is like $2.50, and I can probably get one and a half to two times the amount for about the same cost at Walmart.
