Andy Cizek (the vocalist, also vocalist for Monuments as well as other projects) did a great "reaction" with Chris Liepe where they talk about the production and vocal layer and whatnot. It was super interesting, I highly recommend it!

Nik is a much better writer qnd musician than he gives himself credit for. He's truly gifted and skilled and it shows. He has the best trait of a good musician though IMO which is being humble.

Its really satisfying to see Nik and Andy's growth. From making small youtube videos, humor, auditions, collabs...etc. To this point. And also is a plus to see their job here, seeing a heatfull, nice and professional analysis. As we say here in Spain: "Vaya tres patas para un banco."

The comment about Nik knowing way more than he lets on is very true imo, I get that same vibe. He is not only a great guitar player, but also an exceptional arranger and very much has a "producer's ear" when making songs. Wish we'd see him nerd out about this stuff more, but he's really humble. A great contrast to the rock & metal musicians of yesteryear!

I keep forgetting that Nik is an insanely talented musician overall and not just a guy whose good at guitar and occasionally does covers. and that chorus has been stuck in my head for days

I think the thing with Nik is that he's also just getting better and better over time as he keeps doing new stuff. Like he's getting attention from making these "how to metal" and "anything can be metal" videos, but that does give him some great practice in composing and playing stuff without it just being straight up covers. Composing and playing something in the style of someone else is always gonna require an understanding of their sound and style without just falling into copying a specific track, at least if you want it to be a GOOD impression of the band you're referencing. It's better practice than just covering them because it's easy to learn what it takes to play your favourite song and not really absorb any of the technique that goes into it in a way that you can apply elsewhere. It was my big problem when I was learning to play guitar, I just learned riffs from songs I liked and didn't really absorb how to apply it OUTSIDE of that context. I learned how to play the song, not the techniques that made that possible. It essentially means as he makes content he's constantly getting his own fun practice and feeding his own creativity.

4:11 essentially what that is, is he timed the Delay pedal to the tempo of the song so that he could double the notes with the delay while he arpeggiates the notes. Paul Gilbert did a whole song I think it was "Echo Song". Rob Scallon's song "Rain" utilizes this.

Yup! Though Termina, even in MM, comes from Terminus ("end" in.. Latin? Same as the world terminal) so I'm also curious if it's just a coincidence or if they like MM as much as I do 😃

The one thing I can't stand with Termina is the lead singer's high pitch. I feel like a dog being tortured by a 25000Hz whistle. It just doesn't grow on me at all no matter how much I love Nik's guitar work.

I really hate this style of vocalists for the darker genres of metal. That's why I like Meshugah and not Periphery. In contrast, you have singers like Nik Barker from Twelve Foot Ninja... literally he's a ninja, singer with balls.
