I love the gap between her streaming personality and how much she cuts loose in her music. This is a woman that largely refuses to swear on stream. Her "label" is technically Cover Corp. She's not indie, but she put in a lot of work to get here. You should do "Off With Their Heads".

I believe she was indie before joining Hololive. I’m not one for sharing the identities of the Hololive girls, but in Calli’s case, it’s hard not to want to share more of her awesome music.
@YuyuHakurei2 жыл бұрын
It's not bad for Calli because she flat out told everyone publicly that she used to be Indie. Though what she does is mostly pure rap. Whereas mainstream rap often isn't even rap but some variation of hip hop instead. Which are completely different music genres. xD If you like the 90's rap then you will probably like Calli, but if you like newer stuff then you are less likely to like her stuff because the 90's is what her inspiration was. She's replicating that style which is often less popular with the masses, but has the most loyal fanbase of anything in the world.

Ahe also still performs and makes content outside of her Calliope persona. Since she toured in Japan as Demondice after she'd already became Calliope and she regularly pops up on other people's youtube channels as DemomDiceKaren.

The dead beats ep is really interesting because it seems like a fever dream period for all the girls really. The opening of the En branch made them basically a test grp in a brand new market for Cover, and Im pretty sure theyve mentioned it but Calli in particular was bascially a huge gamble because she had 0 streaming experience and was juggling 2 other jobs on top of adding the stress of hololive in the mix. As someone else said she was working on the ep until the day before she debuted and still editing the songs/videos during the week because she dropped one everyday during her debut week. The reason the style evolved both music and art wise is because she had to have one of her friends (kokorobeats) help her with the music portion of everything because she is self admittedly bad at actually mixing/creating music and wanted get better at it but was unable to manage it in time before debut. Now that she is free from her other obligations and can do hololive as a full time job she can now concentrate on her music but now has access to and the ability to work with different producers. The same thing goes with the art while, Calli is both musically a artistically talented her Gen mate Ina'nis provided her with the album art for deadbeats, she herself did cursed night, off with their heads was by ekao, and most recently rei did it for red, but Calli still does all the animation and editing for her videos.
@Dragon-Believer2 жыл бұрын
I don't know about that. I wouldn't call it a huge gamble to get someone really talented. How much money are they really going to lose if it didn't work? Seems like she did all the work. If nothing else she had fans that she'd bring over to Hololive. Seems like a safe bet. And she speaks Japanese. Seems like a no brainer. Who's more perfect for Hololive than her? Ok, Gawr Gura but they don't grow on trees. Hololive only has one Gura.

She debuted as Calli early September but she's been making music longer. She's always been pretty good at animation, more so than this song, but the artwork on this video was made by her colleague that debuted on the same day. Also she has a different person doing her mixes since her Off With Their Heads song

Technically, Calli is "signed" in that she works for Cover Corp, Hololive's parent company, and they publish her work. That said, I think the particulars of how the music is produced and published is non-standard. I'm also pretty sure that Calli produced the entire Dead Beats EP in the few shorts weeks leading up to her vTuber debut. That means that she was under a lot of stress and pressure to prepare for streaming and Vtubing for the first time all while creating the music. In-fact, I think this MV was being worked on until the day before premiere. Now that Calli has been doing this for a bit, she had a larger time table with a bit less imminent stress when creating Your Mori.

It was actually half a year ago. By the way, Calli has streams where she breaks down her process after each songs release, you can look at those if you're interested in her process.

Yeah you can definitely see the progress through her songs if you look at them chronologically (not saying that's how you should listen but more if you compare her earlier songs to her later songs). She definitely begins showing more sides to herself in her later songs. Some other Calli songs you might not see in her channel that you should definitely check out after listening to her original songs, she did a collab song with Kiara Takanashi called Wah Wah World which is more on the pop side, another collab song with Watame (曇天羊/角巻わため feat.Calliope Mori【オリジナル曲】), and I think another song collab with Holostars' Rikka called Spiral Tones. There are also her karaoke streams which are a blast to listen to. Anyways, it's always a joy to see people listen to Calli and I'm glad you had some fun listening to her music.

I don't know what you'd call her style either, but I think of it is falling under Nerdcore. She's this virtual personality, half role-playing a grim reaper character, and that seems pretty nerdy to me. I always read the dis verse as making fun of herself, which I've always considered a common theme of Nerdcore. Like, she's not a big artist with all the resources of a major label behind her, so she'll use anything and everything to make her music with. Also I've really enjoyed these videos!

@Dragon-Believer2 жыл бұрын
Autotune isn't what people think it is. If you can tell they're using autotune they aren't using it right. Everyone uses it. All it does is make your voice sound very slightly better. When used as intended. Or actually they're using autotune incorrectly on purpose for artistic effect. That is the sound they are going for. I don't like it most of the time. But it's not a substitute for talent. It's just a way to sound different.
