This is later on the same night as Born to be Wild. Kirstie was sick that week so she did really well. There were fewer groups so it is two performances a night plus the opening numbers.

They did a great job on this performance. Kirstin was a real trooper and was awesome. Since she had been sick that week, the show had Pentatonix perform first for performance 7 and last for performance 8 so Kirstin had a bit of time to rest in between performances. That was considerate of them.

Shawn bestowed the nicknames “meat & potatoes” on Kevin and Avi early on….very accurate!

I watched the entire season of the Sing Off. Loved it. It made me appreciate even more how talented PTX is. You might enjoy seeing all the different acapella groups.

remember, PTX doesn't just do covers they do upgrades 😊 so this is even better than the original imo. I've listened to the original and that breakdown at the end is in it, but it doesn't go as hard into the reggae realm as they went here which is why Shawn pointed it out. excellent reaction as always! hoping to see more Sing-Off from you soon, especially because the 10th performance is coming up and it's a favorite of mine haha ❤️

The reason the intro was so long was because this was a two-performace night (you've already seen the first performance -- Born to Be Wild). This was the night Kirstie was sick. Each group got an intro before their first song. Then, in between the first set of performances and the second, they ran the longer clip. That's why it got attached to this video.

There is just a hint of a reggae beat in one section of the original, PTX definitely amped it up! Thanks for reacting to this one!

Some reactors do a double reaction, original then PTX. Sometimes that is fun! I have never heard the original. Thanks for doing PTX

It was very simple and didn't sound country at all to me, but then again Pentatonix always plays to their strengths. I think they could kill at country if they wanted to. In Shallow you can hear those country undertones as well as in their medley Home. As an aside about subscribers. I'm subscribed to you and a few other reviewers and get the notifications, but it is rare I listen to any of their other reviews. Strictly here for Pentatonix/SuperFruit. I love your reviews because you appreciate the music, but you are also low-key. Some reviewers can, to me, be way over the top. Just keep doing what you do. Thank you!

Agree. I think it’s the same reason the avoided rapping on hip hop night. Thankfully they can do both now. 😀

"I think they could kill at country if they wanted to." Bit of an understatement, considering they won a Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Dolly Parton in 2017. ;1

@@Lupin788 I know about the Grammy and not to take anything away from Pentatonix, but I believe it was more a nod to Dolly Parton who had never been rewarded for the song. If they had the duo of Dolly and her goddaughter Miley as an option instead of Pentatonix, she probably still would have gotten the Grammy. Saying that, in the Sing Ooff, one of the groups was going to do Carrie Underwood's Before He Cheats. I can totally see Pentatonix doing a take on that or Lady Antebellum's Need You Now or even Kris Kristofferson's Me and Bobby McGee and I'm sure a whole host of other country songs.

@@karehelene Miley doesn't have the singing chops that Pentatonix has. You can check out examples of Dolly and Miley singing together, including live versions of Jolene. Miley's tone is too similar and their duet isn't much different from Dolly's solo versions. Perhaps it was a way for the Grammys to recognize Dolly for Jolene when way back in 1975, she lost out to Anne Murray and "A Love Song". She was nominated again for a live performance of Jolene in 1976 but lost to Linda Ronstadt and "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still in Love with You)". Dolly has recorded Jolene with other artists over the years and those versions did not get much recognition. Other than PTX, Dolly has only won Grammys in the country duo/group vocal category with Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt and Kenny Rogers. Also, I think the song arrangement skills of PTX played a big role in how well the performance turn out.

LOVE people checking out the Sing Off journey! I wish people would watch the entire episodes bc it really shows how PTX blew the other groups out of the water. And there were lots of talented groups/individuals. But there was no one like PTX and even Home Free the next year. They were magical to watch from week to week. Even the other groups realized right away who the front runners were. Thanks!

The show had an opening number with all the groups, then either 1 or 2 performance from each group depending on the week, and then sometimes the two lowest groups had to battle it out, then the group leaving does a swan songs. So every show there is an intro to the week’s theme. This will often be included with the first group that performs. Then separately Sam Tsui did a behind the scenes and a follow up after each show. An Afterbuzz TV did a show on each night of the sing off (only recommended for the die hard fan because omg boring). I like watch some of the opening numbers because Scott and Kirstie often have solos and you can see Mitch doing the choreography in the background.

Yeah, I don't like country, and did not like the original song. The original video got a little weird. This performance did their upgrade so well. Yeah, few more left, you will not be disappointed! Thanks for coming back to Pentatonix often. Miss the dailies, but that is ok. Great Reaction. 😁😁😎

Hello Salvo G. Love you r channel on ambient noises. Lovely. Thanks for continuing the PTX Sing Off journey. I don't know the original but the PTX version with the reggae infusion is great. They nailed it for sure. Looking forward to seeing the rest. When you are finished with the Sing-Off please do react to Superfruit reacting to PTX Sing Off Performances. Hilarious.
