I do see that says Porter got all those penalties in that one game that he did back off the receivers a bit and not playing as tight coverage even when the receiver catches the ball he's a few yards back and too late on the tackle. Once he finds that medium to be right with the player and getting there just in time to separate the ball, interceptable the ball, or be able to TACKLE IMMEDIATELY if the receiver catches the pass on him...that's when he'll be great.

JPJ has a 81" wing span (6'7"). Because of his long arms, he is getting a lot of hand fighting penalties because he has a "hand" on a guy way further away than most CBs so it looks like DPI or holding when it's sometimes just him touching a guy so he can watch the QB while doing so. But I would much rather him be aggressive AF and get penalties than be soft.

So the people put a criminal back in the (white) house and now you want to hold a DB accountable for a football game????? Sorry, the most important job in this so called nation & its people failed to hold that convict accountable, so why, oh why should I hold anyone (let alone a DB) accountable???? Go Steelers!!!

Arthur, it kind of sounds like Tomlin is saying, "The rules don't apply to you. When I talk in press conferences about how we can't beat ourselves with penalties, it doesn't apply to you." In what way is that good coaching? As a fan, I would be more impressed if his brilliant coaching included putting the best players on the field at all times and getting the best performances from the players on the field. That includes minimizing penalties. I've heard you mention "You're either coaching it or you're allowing it." I had the same feeling when GP said that the coaches didn't care about his penalties. Will we all care if they cost us a Super Bowl? I remember when Vontez Burfict gifted us our last playoff win by decapitating AB for no reason, then shoving Joey Porter to deliver to us a total of 30 free yards on one play. One of his teammates later said that, at some point during the regular season, he realized that VB's penalties were going to cost the Bungles games, because the coaches chose not to coach him towards avoiding penalties. He was expecting it, and it then it happened in a playoff game, and we won because of it. But hey, I guess it's okay if Joey Porter Junior does it, because he's special and penalties somehow don't matter when he commits them. Are any other positions or players told to disregard penalties as far as we know, or is it only the player who grew up in Tomlin's house playing with his son? I remember this attitude towards Willie Colon, too. This is literally the opposite of holding a player accountable for committing penalties. I don't see what's so great about it.
