Stevie Wright, the lead singer was mad on stage. He would do back flips and all sorts of acrobatics. He had a tough battle with substance abuse after the band split and Vander and Young wrote a song to help him come back in the 70s. It was one of the first three part songs and is well worth checking out ... Evie parts 1,2 & 3. Vanda and Young were prolific song writers and wrote for many artists. This was George Young, oldest brother of Angus and Malcolm of ACDC fame.

The Easybeats were a brilliant band, and along with The Kinks who wrote similar music really could be classified as forerunners of Punk. Other songs to check out by The Easybeats would be 'Sorry', 'She's So Fine' and 'Come and See Her'. Worth noting that David Bowie had a huge hit covering 'Friday on My Mind' in the 70s and INXS's cover of 'Good Times' was a hit for them. As others have noted Harry Vanda and George Young had a massive influence on Australian music after The Easybeats returned to Australia.

True, I heard the song before I ever knew whom played it. I just assumed it was The Beatles. Only later on did I find out it was another band from 60's. Also had same realistation 1960's song To Love Somebody was not a Beatles song but Bee Gees. This Easybeats song feels like the first steps to what would become hard rock later on with the AC/DC's of the world which also makes sense with Angus Young's brother in this band. I wonder if people like lead singing of Midnight Oils was inspired with his crazy dancing by this lead singer when he was a kid in 60's.

I can't believe I've missed so many of your reactions to Aussie music. The easy beats actually knocked the Beatles off the charts in England with this song. Have you ever heard that dire straights song sultans of swing? The two guitarists George Young and Harry Vander were referred to in that song. "Check out guitar George, he knows all the chords....." "and Harry doesn't mind , if he doesn't make the scene....".

This was once voted the greatest Auatralian single of all time, with Eagle Rock by Daddy Cool at number two, and Stevie Wright's (the lead singer here) solo song, Evie Parts 1, 2 and 3, was third. The Easybeats were brilliant, formed by teenage migrants from England, Scotland and Holland who were living in hostels at the time with their parents, coming over during the big wave of 10-pound poms, who came to Australia for work in the 1960s. One of our first internationally successful bands ❤

This was a fantastic band who were very big in the UK and Europe. Their songs were righted by the two guitarist who became the most influential producer and song righter in Australia. They were also named in Dire Straits Sultanas of Swing they are Hary Vanders and George Young. George was for a little while in his two younger brothers band AC/DC and produced many of their albums with Harry and wrote for them as well. The also wrote for the lead singer of the Easybeats Stevie Wright like guitar band, Black eyed bruiser, and Evie I, II and iii, Evie I think is a masterpiece.
