The percussion by Layne, bass by Geoff, and synth by Cesar gives this the 80s sound. Eli and Ashley's voices are the icing on the cake. Eli does the lighting, the floor had to be kept wet to give that reflection like you see in the show, and Ashley's ascension was green screened. The result is SO good!

Thanks for paying attention to Layne as well. He is often completely overlooked as many people just focus on the vocals and tend to forget that the drums they are hearing is Layne. He doesn't draw much attention to himself, but always does an amazing job.

I feel like Adam gets way more attention than Layne does, or maybe that's just me.

A good beatboxer can in some ways be compared to a good sound technician, who you don't tend to notice unless something goes wrong (and often they fail to receive the recognition they deserve for making things sound so much better). Layne deserves every bit of attention he receives, and then some, for his skill and creativity as a vocal percussionist.

They’re great! I agree, Layne (the beatboxer) is amazing! It’s his voice you hear most prominently in the part where the beatboxing stops at 5:53 and all of them sing. He’s also the one who arranged this masterpiece!

Great reaction!! Layne's percussion is outstanding, but I really loved the part when he stopped the drums and sang. His voice was in the front and just gorgeous. I am too old to have been listening to this song when it was written and don't watch the program. Doesn't matter, it's Voiceplay! They are terrific, every single time!

Layne put this arrangement together in just a few hours. Glad to see him getting some love! These guys are just amazing!

The more I listen to this song the more I notice. They killed the arrangement on this, but you are right Geoff and Layne were showing off.

Geoff Castellucci, bass, Layne Stein, beatbox, Eli (Eliezer) Jacobson, tenor with a range of five octaves. Cesar de la Rosa, newest member with loads of sass.

They really, really brought it with this one. Every time I listen to it, I hear something new. Great reaction! Glad you gave in to the temptation to listen to it :D

Side note. This was also at Patty Cake Productions new location which they were still moving into i believe. Thats Layne and former member Tonys’ production company. I think that had some bearing on the simplicity of the visual production of the vid

Loved it. I love Kate Bush's original version, so I watched this not expecting to like their acapella version as much. I never imagined they'd recreate the musical instruments used in the original so beautifully. I've asked a friend of mine who was a voice major in college to watch it because she always has interesting things to observe about talented voices.

Well, Cesar is technically a baritone... even though he fills in nicely as a 2nd tenor and fools a lot of people. Just like Eli is technically a baritenor but can belt way above an average tenor.

Did anyone take notice of the writing on the cassette? It had Voice Play written on it. It's the little attention to detail Layne & Geoff put into their videos.

This has got to be in the top 3 for me out of the 200 or so they've done. It is so GORGEOUS. It doesn't hurt that Stranger Things uses this song and I'll take VoicePlay's any day.

You were feelin it, great reaction! My fav from them as well. At the top of my playlist and often on repeat. :) I know you also appreciate good lyrics and it's hard to focus on lyrics because the vocals are so amazing. But Kate wrote a really interesting song here, you might want to listen to a lyric video at some point. Thanks Sal!

This is sung much clearer than the original. I think it took me a month to realize she was singing about swapping places (not swallowing faces) when it first got air time

0 seconds ago Geoff Castellucci released a new video yesterday morning. The Rains of Castamere from Game to Thrones. He portrays the Lannister men. His best by far.

I have no idea about Stranger things never saw it. No idea also what the song is about, at this point it doesn't matter, I do like the sound and song, the performance is great. It sounds really pretty. Why is she rising up? Makes me feel dumb not knowing more about it.
@FemkevanDrooge

The rising up is definitely a reference to Stranger Things. Without spoiling too much - crazy psychic serial killer lifts his victims in the air before his final blow. That's why everyone gets sooooo nervous when she starts to float up :-D
