Hard to feel sad listening to these guys. Their music is very upbeat to me and brings back so many memories from when I was younger. This is like summer music to me. No school, warm weather, friends...where did those days go?!

First concert for me was Triumph, didn't know how loud a concert could be😭 Rik is the star, always wished he had similar talent around him.

Loudest concert I ever saw by far was Triumph in Minneapolis right after Just A Game came out. They were soooo damn good!!

This was my 1st Taste of Triumph in 1979, sophmore year in high school & is still my favorite Triumph track. My Billfold Vinyl "Just A Game" Album hangs proudly framed in my Listening Room to this day, a Father's Day present from my kids.

Perhaps check out or "Rock N' Roll Machine /Guitar solo" or "When the Lights Go Down (Live 1983)" from the US Festival. Gil Moore, the drummer, sings lead on both these tracks. 😎

I saw Rik perform an acoustic show close to twenty years ago and he did this, just himself and a keyboard player who added some depth and harmony vocals. I had heard the studio version countless times and that night, Rik sold me on the acoustic version, hitting all the high notes, and I much prefer it over this one.

Thank you for the theory lesson. I liked this song when it came out. It's ok but it feels 'assembled'. This worked for 'Spirit of Radio' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody. Maybe some parts could have been repeated instead of replaced. The lyrics have a positive outlook but they aren't deep.

There are two other Rock prog rock bands from Canada you may wish to check out although couldn’t quite break the U S market they did become big in Europe. One was FM featuring Nash The Slash, and SAGA.

I thought that I knew this song from back in the day from the title, but I didn't This was a new song to me. I found it rather interesting. You mentioned Journey and Boston and yeah, the singing parts I agree, sound kind of like Boston or Journey, but the song is a whole and all the changes in it felt, to me, like more of a Rush song; in the way the song was written.

My first exposure to Triumph was “I Live for the Weekend” or “Live for the Weekend” on the radio. That song seemed like it would never end. I didn’t know about “Hold on” until the video was on MTV. The song was chopped to pieces.

You need to hear the live version of this song from the album Stages. Rik Emmets’s vocal (though drench in both natural venue reverb and sound board reverb) it’s simply amazing. He was incredible, but like many high tenors, he lost a big bit of range over the years. Just like Geddy Lee. Oh! And let me recommend another song from the Just A Game record; Moving on. The drummer Gil Moore also a lead vocalist in his own right, just kills it. Next Triumph album? Thunder Seven. Front to back, a winner!

I graduated High School in 1980 and my graduating class voted for Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd) to be our class song (during graduation) and the administration disapproved it and we had to settle for this song. How pathetic is that?

I don't specify cause I figure people give what they think it's worth and what they can. And on my end it'll all average out in the end. Thusfar it has been fine. If it gets ridiculously low I'll step in and make a 'minimum' but I don't really want to do that or feel I should at this point. Consider how many songs youre asking for, how long the songs are...

As much as I like Triumph, I was really disappointed seeing concert footage of them having a second guitarist when they claim to be a three piece band. That why Rush is so great. They always did everything in concert themselves. Even if they did use foot pedals for certain sounds.

In the 70's and 80's music was the escape. There was no internet, smartphones, etc so these lyrics had a deep meaning, it's not preaching. It's an inspirational song, it's a song about not giving up. Maybe you should actually go over the lyrics and stop making stupid comments about something you don't know anything about.
@yar9333
@yar9333 Жыл бұрын
I was there in the 70s and 80s also and don’t disagree with you on the basic premise that music was the main source for inspiration since there wasn’t any social media etc…it certainly was for me. I was the kid that recorded the top 40 every week and scoured the used record stores to see what new albums i missed and so forth and the lyrics and lots meaning for a shy music nerd kid that wanted to be those guys on the radio. But, we don’t need to insult people because of a lack of knowledge. Educate not bitch and moan. If you don’t like what he says, get over it or don’t watch anymore.

@@yar9333 I wish he would do research about the meaning of the song before reacting to it. Triumph was a band that got me through some really tough times in my life, especially Hold On so that's why I got upset and emotional listening to his critique.
@JustinPanariello
@JustinPanariello Жыл бұрын
I openly don't give a shit about lyrics at first. There is so much to listen to on first (ONE) listen that you just can't catch everything at once. Nobody does research on a song before listening... you JUST LISTEN right? you weren't doing research on the song before you threw the vinyl on or heard it on the radio right? I was lucky enough to get into my teens with no internet or cell. I was outside playing as a kid. I'm not trying to take anything away from you and your opinion or connection with the song or the band. I will CONTINUE to make STUPID COMMENTS about all kinds of shit, whether it's things I know or things that I don't... as long as I live, that I can guarantee!
@danielwolski873
@danielwolski873 Жыл бұрын
@@JustinPanariello I agree that you don't research a song if you play it at home on vinyl, radio, etc. However you should do research on it if you react to it on a public platform. If you don't like a song you react to, that's cool but there is no need to make comments that are inaccurate.

@@JustinPanariello WTF, Daniel definitely falls into the "Beyond Unnecessarily Harsh" category. His comments are another reason to not listen to the lyrics, just the voice as an instrument.
