I think he meant how quickly and easily he did it. All he really did was press his hands on the ground and the planet started blowing up. It literally took him a couple of seconds to do it. No one saw it coming, not even Vegeta who was standing right in front of him. Sure, he could blow up planets pretty easily than most characters before but this one was on a whole other level than what he was doing before.

Sorbet, the guy who got blown up at 5:28, was the one who "sucker" shot Goku. Goku was warned by Whis at the beginning of this movie, when he and Vegeta were training, to not be overconfident and to relaxed. I believe you also watched that scene it was the Goku and Vegeta vs Whis "Battle". Both Goku and Vegeta were to lenient and underestimated Freeza, so Freeza destroyed Earth as a last resort (yes by this point the main characters and villains can easily destroy planets if they want to). Since Freeza can survive in the vacuum of space he most probably survived the explosion with ease. Way back in the Namek Saga he even survived when Planet Namek exploded even though he was severely wounded (he was cut in half by his own Energy Disc and was shot with an beam by Goku in the face afterwards). Thankfully Whis has the ability to turn back time for about 3 minutes, which he also states in the beginning of the movie (also in the Goku and Vegeta vs Whis fight you watched). After Whis turned back time Goku is the one to quickly finish of Freeza with an Kame-Hame-Ha so sadly Vegeta doesn't get his "true revenge" against Freeza for destroying the Home Planet of the Saiyans. Hopefully this clears up ALL your confusion ;).

Don;t forget Whis also warned Vegeta that he is to Rigid and over calculating in combat where he hesitates when the enemy does something unexpected... like Frieza aiming at the planet instead of him.

Basically, Like in the original fight, Frieza fired an attack directly at the planets core. On Namek, this caused the planet to destabilise and eventually explode, whereas Earth blew up in a few seconds. The Staff at the end was Whis.

I know I'm late.. but yes... it gives you an appreciation for how strong they are and how much control they fight with. Frieza, even beaten to a pulp, could blow the planet with a flick of his wrist. If you watch Z in its entirety, they roughly explain and show that in season 1 and 2. Vegeta who only has a maximum battle power of around 16,000-18,000 in season 1 and is able to blow that one planet up with little effort. The consensus seems to be that it takes about 3000 battlepower to destroy a normal sized planet like Earth and Namek, in other words if I had 3000 battle power, I'd have to kill myself to blow up the planet, whereas if my battlepower is 3001, i would just pass out and need to recover for awhile. Frieza in his normal form is about 1,200,000, which means Frieza can easily destroy Earth without even exerting 1% of his strength. Frieza golden form multiplies his power of 1 million by something massive, maybe exponentially, they never say. I gave a very rough cut version. Only way to truly understand the power-scaling is to go back and watch DragonBall when goku was a kid and watch all the way up to atleast the Super: Broly movie. But i know you're too busy with current projects so I will leave with this last bit: Black hair- base form Yellow hair- base form x10-20 Red hair- base form x1mill or 1 trill(idk, it's never officially stated) Blue Hair- red hair x10-20 Hope that helped... if not, sorry for the long redundancy lol

Quick rundown of this, yes, freiza has always had the power to destroy planets, ever since his first appearence even before cell, second, yes, the planet does get destroyed but whiss uses his temporal destortion power to restore it to give goku a second chance and third, this entire clip/fight is from the movie "Dragon Ball z: Resurrection of Frieza" which is set years after gokus fight with beerus which was from the earlier movie "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods" which was set months after kid buu was killed, these two movies marked the return of dragon ball after a long time without the series since it ended and had much higher budget than the series

what happened was that freeza destroyed the planet earth after losing to vegeta. that scepter was Whis putting a little protection bubble around Beerus, Krillin and the others to save them. then you learn Whis can turn back time up to 3 minutes into the past and Whis uses this power so that Goku can kill Freeza before he blows up the planet (and since vegeta was far away from whis, he wasn't saved from the destruction of earth. so when they turn back time, he doesn't remember anything that happened) he's still alive though, don't worry

The purple guy shot goku, his little ring apparently shoots lasers. Freezer doesn't even have a ray gun.
