The original script in the 90s was butchered, including this scene. The dub takes things out of context. This is not what Vegeta said in the Japanese version. The 90s dub is horrible...But, I'll give FUNimation credit for still making this moment powerful and moving. The truth is, having his father killed by Frieza wasn't the main reason why Vegeta began to cry. It was actually due to the fact that the low-level warrior Kakarotto was the last remaining Saiyajin and that he, not Vegeta, would be the one to defeat Freeza. It was more about his pride being ground to a pulp more than anything.

Curtis you should know by now that the producers at Funimation (the people who dubbed Dragon ball z in this English dub) (/or whoever made this decision) didn't think people would like Goku's character in the manga and Japanese dub since so they basically stripped away everything about Goku that made him a unique character (his love of fighting) and basically made him into a all justice loving Superman knock off. The Dragon Ball Kai English dub got it closer to the manga thus giving Goku back his unique warrior personality. You should check the Dragon Ball Kai version of this scene. Also on a side note you might have heard that Dragon Ball Kai is basically removing all the filler but this is a misconception. DB Kai has filler like Freeza throwing a Super Nova at Trunks when in the manga Trunks just "Cut" to the chase and did his final move.

Four years too late for this video but two things that might interest you about this scene. When the saiyan planet was destroyed Goku was a baby and it's a plot point that Goku can't remember his past, Vegeta? He was a five year old child who remembers EVERYTHING. Also? the author recently confirmed that saiyans are biologically incapable of forming emotional bonds with other saiyans (it was his way of explaining why Goku usually leaves his children behind to train) HOWEVER there are a group of saiyans who CAN form emotional bonds with other saiyans, the royal family. So even if Goku could remember what happened to his family, he might be angry and want revenge, but would not be sad, Vegeta, as the prince, was created to care for his race.

Vegeta does care for his race in Dragonball Super he starts to mentor Cabba a Saiyan from universe 6 and even teaches him the ways of the saiyans and their pride, He also asks to visit the universe 6 saiyans. It's funny Piccolo states that Vegeta cares for the saiyans because of his royal bloodline and Goku asks why did Vegeta never show the same kindness to him lol.

It is not stealing ad revenue bro. People will still watch it and would not like to watch something this important in bad quality. It helps TFS regardless and if you think about it, TFS does not make ad revenue from abridged videos... only from patreon (over 10k!!!), sponsorships, gaming channels etc yet we get an episode every 3-4 month if we are lucky. I do not think its fair on the viewers to wait months after months when majority of patreon donations are from people who donate mainly thanks to there DBZA series.. If we think about it. They have day jobs yes, but there whole online business probably gets them around $20,000 a month minimum as they get over 10k on patreon (12K) , gaming channels and other vids/channel and there website excluding DBZa ($2k-$4k) that sounds like a lot but a few aspects play a part for this reason, sponsorship ($3-$5k probably more or less) but not too sure on this as not only crunchyroll sponsors them. That is quite a good amount to play around with and earn for there talents. There day jobs are day jobs and is a necessity. They could "hire" extra editor to help out to speed out the process without losing quality and not spend any of there hard earned money. MANY channels are promoting TFS website which in return helps them (TFS). Broly has been such an awaited video. Lot of professionals actually offer free help just because of how awesome they are. OK i think i went a too deep into this lol.

tbh as gruesome as seras victoria's upbringing was......i do think vegeta's upbringing WAS worse than her but that just comes down to what you think is worse. I can't really imagine how it would feel like to be taken a way from your father for slave labor, never rebel and listen to all the things your master told you to do, have been lied to and still have your father killed, your planet and race removed from existence, and still be forced to do that persons labor, grow bitter and with a deep hatred in your heart, and fail at revenge against that person who you hate only to have the person who you KNEW should have been weaker and inferior to you be the one who was actually going to take the revenge that he never personally remembered or went through then die. Vegeta was a prince living as one of the most humiliated peasants in history even (as goku said) if his death and his race and planet being destroyed wasn't what really made him mad.....because it may be, more than likely, that vegeta was just born with thicker skin than anyone else

The Cell saga is my favorite but it changed the legend of the story. Goku was the legend SSJ that was born to kill Freiza. After everyone started becoming SSJ and the stories changed it lost its meaning. Thats the great thing about the Freiza saga.

nice reaction curtis. The KAI version has a better dialogue than this one. I hated frieza's voice in DBZ funimation. I loved him voice more in the KAI version. in the original it sounds like a chain smoking , childlike person. Do not get me wrong, i grew up watching the normal version but the kai has better voice acting, better dialogue in certain aspects.

how? what makes you think kai is for younger audience? I have never heard the original dub ever used the word "bastard" once and even that isnt considered much of a profanity and it is the first time i heard someone state kai is made even more childish then the original even though dbz in general was made for younger audience. There are jokes in the kai where only adults will get it. If you are a real DBZ fan, you could see that... you would also know why kai has a lot of advantages over the original in certain aspects. I finally got my wife to enjoy DBZ and we both watched original and kai and she prefers kai due to the dialogue and voice. I love the original as i grew up with it and the music but i prefer kai as it feels more clean and the points i made earlier.

watch the kai version of these scene... tell me if you still prefer vegeta scene on the original. The pain and emotions in vegetas voice hits you more in the kai version. The music as well suits perfectly. It was already a powerful scene but made even more powerful thanks for kai. The fact that there is no music in one part and all you hear is the wind whistle as vegeta finally dies is just perfect.
