7:47 is my favorite part of the song. Chance talking about him and his mom witnessing a murder but instead of focusing his lyrics directly on the event, just describes going on with their lives, doing the normal childhood activity of going to buy a video game with witnessing that still heavy in the back of their minds and clearly affecting them, and making the message just as powerful.

That's horrible man, but I'm glad you and your brother are okay. I was recently diagnosed with PTSD because 5 or 6 years ago, me and my brother got into a really bad fight and he almost died. I just remember watching him collapse to the ground, hearing him say "help me" and watching the pool of blood get bigger. And I remember panicking trying to call 911 but the phones weren't working that day so I had to run across the street to my aunts with no clothes on (except my boxers), blood all over me, and it was like 7am. I thought for sure he was going to die. It still haunts me every single day. I can't even be around my brother or hear his voice without having crippling anxiety

I have tried numerous types of therapy throughout my life and the one that helped me the most with PTSD was EMDR! I got excited when you mentioned it because so many people have never heard of it and it is truly amazing. I bonded with my therapist very quickly and he made such a big impact in my life. Unfortunately he retired before we were able to finish my therapy but I started seeing a Psychiatrist a while back and he is helping me find another EMDR therapist thankfully. I truly appreciate your reactions to all of my favorite songs and artists :) you are an inspiration to me! Awesome 👊

10:08 yep. I had gotten clean from opiates, started seeing a psychiatrist and counselor, got diagnosed with PTSD and bipolar 1, they put me on SSRI's but they didn't help much with anxiety. So my psychiatrist gave me klonopin. And once I started benzos, I quickly started to abuse them. Instead of just taking 1 I'd take 2 or 3. I'd take them even when I knew I didn't actually need them, didn't feel any anxiety but I would still take them. Quickly realized that's an addiction I DO NOT want and went back to just 10 klonopin a month, so I couldn't abuse them. But once she took the klonopin away completely, my anxiety came back. And within a few months I was using opioids again. Now I'm back in treatment on buprenorphine and honestly don't plan to get off of it any time soon because I just don't see the point. I'm tired of going through withdrawal.

Just a little background on why the whole "warzone" feel to this song: these are all Chicago artists, commonly referred to as "Chiraq" because of how much gun violence happens in these communities. The reference to Cheef Keef is because he was one of the first musicians to really make a career coming from the area of Chicago that these guys are from. That's also why they speak about how they werent "supposed to" make it out, but were destined to be killed or sent to jail. And now that they have all "made it", there is a real sense of imposter syndrome and survivors guilt. And "Brodie" is just a slang for bro, or his friend. So the PTSD feeling that they have is about growing up in such violence with a lack of hope and now their realities are so different and it is a difficult adjustment to the lives they now live.
@ak-zxr03582 жыл бұрын
5:07 brodie is just a friendly term 😂 akin to brother
