Juice WRLD, G-Herbo, and Chance are all from Chicago. There verses respectfully highlight the violence and harsh truth of what they experienced in the hood. “Made it out here” refers to Juice making it out that life and why on other tracks he highlights the move from the street life to LA.

10:17 when you say "things are so bad where he is that he had a friend bleeding out and another friend went through his pockets" and my first thought was yeah, America, then when you said "are people struggling that much that that is an okay thing do do?" I paused and had to think about how someone could live a life where they don't know that is happening, because I cant really imagine that. then you said "that has to have an impact on how safe you view the world and how safe you feel day to day" which confused me for a second because believing the world is safe in any way immediately strikes me as inherently dangerous, as I don't feel safe day to day, and never have, because throughout my life I've consistently been presented evidence that the world is not a safe place and that I am in constant danger of being robbed by another poor person, brutalized by police, or dying or becoming permanently disabled by lack of healthcare or other social safety nets.
@TherapistReactsOfficial Жыл бұрын
Its all relative based on our experiences which is why I say I can't imagine it being liek that. That includes when I say the world is safe, its relative. I know that I can walk to my local Tesco and there is a 99.9% chance I am coming back in one piece. That is safety to me. You are right, there is loads of evidence that the world is not a safe place, and it never will be 100% safe. But some places are relatively safer than others. I deployed to Iraq in 2006, that wasn't safe. Living in a coastal English town is far safer relatively speaking. I now work with in the justice system doing therapy with offenders. People who have literally killed or been involved in the killings of others, so I do see first hand the impacts of this. But I also see evidence of safety. I walk my kids to school every day, along with 1000s of other parents and children and there are no issues and I still feel safe walking my dog around the block. You also have to consider is what are you going to do if you feel the world isn't safe. How are you going to live? You could try and keep yourself as safe as possible, that's fine. You could stay home all day and not go out, again that is someone's right. But in my view their world will shrink to an existence that might be worse than going out and taking some risk. Again though this is all relative and contextual. Saying all of that, people like myself are most likely at risk of PTSD if something were to happen. Its called shattering of the core belief. If one has a core belief that the world is inherently safe, and then something happens, then that core belief gets shattered and that is a massive risk factor for PTSD.

*Okay so some vital background info on Juice… * 1. He doesn’t write any of his songs, everything is off the top of his head. That’s what makes his music so relatable and raw. 2. Juice didn’t grow up in the “hood” like Herbo or Chance. I was born at the same hospital he was in Evergreen Park. He grew up in Homewood which is pretty far south of the city, probably a 10-15 min drive while speeding recklessly with no traffic… Keep in mind, Chicagoland is huge and any area can be dangerous considering the mass exodus of gang bangers to the suburbs after the closure of Caprini Green in the 90’s. 3. Personally, Juice WRLd is one of the goats… He pushed a fledgling subgenre and made it mainstream because of his relatability and unadulterated genius. And HOW DARE YOU PAUSE BETWEEN CHANCE AND JUICE!!! You killed the best part of the song… I hope your happy! Thanks for coming to my Ted talk

In the hook juice is describing what life is like growing up surrounded by constant violence and the trauma that comes with it. The “prove you wrong…” and the “in mail or dead…” lines are in reference to the statistics of young back men. “Don’t stand to float to me….” Emphasizes how people with that trauma become extremely paranoid and have difficulty blending in with the rest of society

🎉When he says I proved "you" wrong, I think its referring to himself as much as anyone else. I have PTSD since 1990. Bled out full of holes tortured eyeballs plucked fingers in a sucking wound noose around my neck made from my own bootlaces carried out by a search party after being left to die. It took me 15 years to talk about it with ordinary people without crying. Now I've found my way. There is no sobriety in my future, only an understanding of how to keep in check.

Ren - "Money Game Part 3" - paints the story of a man chasing money (also relating to how we are taught to live) and it is written in a very exceptional way in the music video, feels almost like a short movie but it doesn't take away from the song. The artist or song may not be as popular as the other ones you've reacted to but I guarantee you that it's on a higher level than most of the other more popular songs, I would love to see your reaction and your thoughts & views on the subjects mentioned in the song/music video from a therapist's perspective. 👍🏼
